Hi everyone,

Due to be sectioned on Friday at exactly 38 weeks. Anybody out there that has had there babies at 38 weeks? Has everything been okay? Has there needed to be a longer stay in hospital?

Was given steroids at 25 weeks to develop her lungs quicker because they thought she was gonna make an early appearance. She is measuring higher on the growth chart too.

Thank you

My son was born naturally at 37 weeks. He was tiny (5 pounds 15) but healthy.

We went home the day after and there were no complications at all.

38 weeks is considered term so wouldn't need extra time in hospital just because of that. One of my children was born at 38wks, was 6.5lbs and was fine. Another came at 39 and was only 5.5lbs but we still only stayed in one night as she was small but fine.

Sittingonthefence83 · 24/01/2018 21:09

Two of mine were both born via c-section at 38 weeks. Both absolutely perfectly fine and healthy! One was 6lb 12oz and the other was 7lbs.

SheRaaarghPrincessOfPower · 24/01/2018 21:09

Mine was 38 weeks, it's term and he was fine. Went home same day.

Stickmangate · 24/01/2018 21:10

My DS was born at 34 weeks had steroids 2 days before and he only stayed in hospital for 2 weeks and was 3lb 8 when he came home.

pastabest · 24/01/2018 21:10

38 weeks is considered full term.

If you need to stay in for any reason longer than would be normal after a c section it won't be because of how many weeks gestation you got to. Good Luck!

Cheatabix · 24/01/2018 21:10

My ds was born at 38 weeks. A full pound heavier than his 40 week sister. I dread to think what he would have been like 2 weeks over. Isnt 38 considered full term?

BIWI · 24/01/2018 21:10

DC1 was born at 37.5 weeks, and DC2 at 36 weeks. DC2 had to have a couple of days in NICU, and had jaundice (not unusual for babies born early), but both fine.

Both weighed 6lbs 2oz.

DD was 38 weeks, born at home, apgar of 9 and no health problems whatsoever barring mild eczema. She was 3 yesterday Smile

chocolateorangeowls · 24/01/2018 21:11

I went into labour at 38 weeks, we stayed in one night due to meconium in her waters but everything was fine. Anything beyond 37 weeks is full term Smile

AndromedaPerseus · 24/01/2018 21:12

Over 37 weeks is considered full term 2 of mine were born naturally at 38 weeks with no problems at all

cookiedough1 · 24/01/2018 21:12

38 weeks is absolutely fine, anything after 37 is considered to be term isn't it?

DD was induced and born at 38+4 and we left hospital after about 12 hours (she was an evening baby)

EllenJanethickerknickers · 24/01/2018 21:14

DS1 was born naturally at 37 weeks and was 8 1/2 lbs. Apart from being very fluffy with lanugo and having some jaundice, he was fine.

Littlegreysquares · 24/01/2018 21:14

38 week section here. Well over 8 lbs!

123bananas · 24/01/2018 21:15

It will be fine my youngest was born at 34 weeks and didn't need respiratory support or special care. We were home within 5 days and that was because of my recovery and not him.

I had twins at 36/6 - 4lb 5 and 5lb 9 - both absolutely fine and went home two days later (and I think we only had to stay that because it was twins). Good luck!

Lightbulb57 · 24/01/2018 21:15

My youngest was born at 38 weeks. As pp have said, 37 weeks is classed as term so 38 weeks is fine!

bonzo77 · 24/01/2018 21:19

DS3 born at 37+5. My biggest and healthiest baby at 5lb14oz. (DS1 5lb11 @ 39+1 and DS2 5lb3 at 35+5). No issues with him at all. My recovery was also good. I’d had steroids a few days before.

Thegirlwithnousername · 24/01/2018 21:22

I was induced at 38+3, Had a little boy who is healthy and happy and I was allowed to leave the same day!
Like PP said its considered post term 37 weeks.
Good luck

CuppaTeaAndAJammieDodger · 24/01/2018 21:23

DD was born spontaneously at 38 weeks - she was smallish (just over 6lb) but perfectly healthy. Congrats on your impending arrival!

Vinorosso74 · 24/01/2018 21:25

DD was born at 38+3, waters went at exactly 38 and all ok. Anything from 37 weeks is full term.

Kintan · 24/01/2018 21:29

Shouldn't entail a longer stay in hospital unless there are specific complications - 38 weeks is not considered premature.

Patienceisvirtuous · 24/01/2018 21:30

DS was born at 38 weeks, 6lb 10oz. Dainty and perfect :) Good luck OP !

Patienceisvirtuous · 24/01/2018 21:31
