How far along were you when you bought cots etc?

What point did you start buying the big things like the cot and buggy. Getting the nursery ready.
I'm 13 weeks and want to be able to spread the cost over the remaining 6 months and buy things gradually rather than buy everything in one go.
DH doesn't agree.

I came up with the rule, to buy maximum 3 months before anythign was needed. I didn't want to leave it all to last minute, but you're too likely to change mind if you buy too far in advance.

I did buy a buggy at 5months. I walk a lot so buggy was like THE most important thing. thought I found a good deal at that point. Didn't change my mind, either!

You could just set aside the money now and not spend it until you find right item... Is that easy for your DH to do?

Justify it by buying second hand. I haven't bought anything new really. Facebook Marketplace and eBay have been my main places, met some lovely local mums along the way too.

I'm 26 weeks on Thursday and bought nothing yet baby has a few bits and bobs that other people have bought for him/her, but I've bought zero so far.

We got a Moses basket at about 30 weeks and bought a cot in a sale after baby was born. Our first child's "nursery" was a changing table in the corner of our home office/spare bedroom/box room

I think it's more about making sure you get everything you want for the best price/ really shopping around and once you really know what exactly you're looking for you can start to look for the best value/ even second hand.

I shopped around a lot and got a travel system I wanted that was meant to be over a grand for £400!! Don't really think it matters WHEN you buy the stuff it's just about having it all before baby arrives and saving money but also making sure you get all the bits you want if possible

36 weeks here and didn't want it delivered before baby.

Lessons: babies come early. Przctice is required about how to use/erect the stuff. New mummies are v tired fod several days%weeks after the birth. You can save x amount befor the birth to spread the cost.

We bought stuff at about 5 months to take advantage of sale prices and discounts.

I waited until I was 23-25 weeks to start buying things xx

Why not just start putting money aside for now?

I was in hospital... in labour! Thank goodness for internet shopping!

Clothes from about 12 weeks (we did the harmony test so knew the sex), pram at 15 weeks (eBay bargain) wouldn’t have bought so early but saw the exact model we wanted much cheaper so snapped it up. Cosleeper and car seat 20 weeks in the post Christmas sales. We still have stuff to get but it’s been more fun for us to spread it out.

With my first my midwife said get everything big and bulky sorted by 2nd trimester as you may be too tired/big by the third. On subsequent pregnancies I had to get big bits again as had given lots back/away and I chose what I wanted then waited until the items went on sale to get them so mix of first, second and third trimester. RaindropsandSparkles is right, mine came at 36 then 37 weeks so getting everything bought and practising using it is the best...although I can still not be bothered to work out how my double buggy raincover works, maybe it won’t rain this year?

25 weeks i bought a pram but felt it was too early. Just start putting Money away instead. I would say 13 weeks was far too early to start buying things. Wait until you get the all clear from your next scan

I started putting money aside straight away but didn't buy anything until 28 weeks. Did bits of research though so when it came to buying it all got sorted very quickly.

Why don't you start by researching the stuff you might want to buy (this is free!) while saving money. Plan to have enough to buy it full price at say 30 weeks (or whenever you feel like you'd need to have it), but if you see good deals in the meantime/secondhand you can buy it early? That way you won't miss out on any bargain offers or be unprepared for baby arriving, or have your house full of baby stuff before you know the baby will be ok. I certainly didn't want to get anything before my anomaly scan, but I've had 3 mcs so prob a bit more anxious.

With my first i was due in February and so got most things in the January sales.

With my second we still had a lot of baby bits, (cot, nappy changer, etc) but realised that i didn't need everything brand new and shine so got the other stuff off eBay

I have bought (or been given) pretty much everything second hand, so have been buying things since just after 12 week scan.

I wanted a specific co sleeper cot, so got that at around 17 weeks when one came up on ebay, but only got round to order the replacement mattress a couple of weeks ago at 35 weeks.

If you go down the second hand route, which I highly recommend as there is so much good stuff out there which can be picked up at a fraction of the original price and is also environmentally more responsible, then you will have LOTS of washing to do (even though it will be sent to you clean). So need to allow time for this.

I know some people get superstitious at buying stuff early, but I have seen a close friend go through a full term still birth, so my thought pattern was...really how late can you leave it?! So I just got on with it.

Also we have a (young) dog, so he is getting a chance to get used to all the new stuff gradually.

I put money away to get what we needed. But I didn't get anything until the month before, and that was only the Pram, car seat, crib bedding (had an heirloom crib), and white clothes for the hospital.
1 we didn't want to know the sex, so we knew we would get the rest once he or she was born.
2 I'm superstitious and won't have anything in the house until the baby was born and okay. So no way would I buy early

I was 12 weeks at the Christmas so we brought lots in the New Year sale. Think we had most of it before 20 weeks. Nursery was well established before I went into spontaneous labour at 35 weeks.

Probably buy everything in one big go at around 30 weeks I guess. I’ve chosen and bought their going home outfit (or rather my kids did) but that’s it, currently 22 weeks.
I just don’t have time though but if you do have time then I’d start at least planning what you will buy, it makes life much easier

30 weeks and only have moses basket and clothes so far... really should get shopping...

It’s my second pregnancy and I’m having a baby of the same sex - 19 weeks and so far all I’ve really bought was some new bubble bath stuff and piping and membranes for my breast pump! DH did buy two sleep suits tho. Poor second baby syndrome 😂 Really need to do a proper look through DD1s clothes to see what I need to buy, I gave away a lot but still have too much!

I got everything in bulk the day after 20 week scan.. As in the moses. Crib. Cot, pram. Car seat. Steriliser etc. The more expensive stiff then within a week after I had got all the accessories and clothes, bean bag, bottles etc

Okay okay I'm mad. Lol. But I'm so. Impatient.

I'm. Now 33 weeks. Everything is wash dried and ironed. Hospital bag packed except any snacks or drinks and phone charger.
I'm crazy!

Hey, I'm 15 weeks now. We put a deposit down on a travel system in the Christmas sale. We got a really good deal, which is the only reason we did it. The shop keep it until
4 weeks before your due date. I haven't bought anything else, but am saving money and have had a good look round at what I want etc. I've arranged to borrow some stuff and have things 2nd hand from friends. We do need to crack on and sort out spare room. It's a tip and needs plastering etc. My friend has just rushed out and got everything in one day, but I think you can end up panick buying in that situation x

I’ll wait until the baby has a good chance of staying alive at birth, probably about 28 weeks. I had a late miscarriage last time and can’t bring myself to buy anything before then.
