I love it - I considered it for ds2 but dh vetoed outright, sadly.

Blu · 24/04/2007 16:19

Gabriel is lovely.
Gabe is awful - and I have never heard the little Gabriel I know called 'Gabe'

Victoria72 · 24/04/2007 16:20

Phew - wiping of brow. Have to get DH OFF the idea of Ulysses. Is it just me...?!?

Beautiful, love it, go for it

krabbiepatty · 24/04/2007 16:21

Ahem, Blu, some very nice Gabriels are referred to as Gabe by their mummies and it very much suits them.

MrsBadger · 24/04/2007 16:22

too many associations for me with the angel Gabriel, who wore a dress hence was always played by girls...

Victoria72 · 24/04/2007 16:23

MrsBadger - assumedly the same could be said about Jesus - wearing a dress.

Oi, Badger, come over here and say that.

Marina · 24/04/2007 16:24

I like Gabriel.

pinkchampagne · 24/04/2007 16:24

Gabriel is a lovely name - my DS has a friend called Gabriel, but his name doesn't get shortened at all.

Y0rkshirelass · 24/04/2007 16:24

I love the name Gabriel. It's one of the only boy's names that DP & I agree on during 'hypothetical future children' convos.

Marina · 24/04/2007 16:24

Or Paul, Timothy, Matthew, Mark, Luke, Ezra...

MerryMarigold · 24/04/2007 16:24

it's a little bit long-haired, muso type

krabbiepatty · 24/04/2007 16:25

Ezra very good to but shame about Pound.

DumbledoresGirl · 24/04/2007 16:25

My friend has a Gabriel. I like the name, but I don't really like the fact that she shortens it to Gabe. Always makes me think of Gab and gabby - ie someone who talks too much.

krabbiepatty · 24/04/2007 16:25

"too"

wurlywurly · 24/04/2007 16:26

oooh i like gabriel.

MrsBadger · 24/04/2007 16:26

no no, Jesus is played by an inappropriately plastic doll, possibly Baby Annabel, and grew up to be a man. Whereas Gabriel was only seen once in a nightie covered in tinsel...

I didn't say it was a Bad Name, just that I wouldn't use it, same as I wouldn't use Lydia, which is lovely but the name of an evil aunt of DH's etc etc

suzywong · 24/04/2007 16:27

yes, v thomas hardy

my parents have a cat with that name so it kind of spoils it for me, but hold on a minute, my childhood pet cat had the same name as my ds1.

Sorry, it's not on my top 10 list

Blu · 24/04/2007 16:27

Ooops, sorry, Krabbiepatty.
What can I say?
That I like the name Gabriel, and very much admire the taste of parents who have chosen it, so would not shorten it....this is the problem with 'name' threads!

I have seen DS's name described as the worst and most unsexy name anyone could think of! But i like it!
