My nanna used to crave coal! Aparently it was a life-long thing - when she was little she used to find it and suck on it!! Yueuch!!!
Maybe try taking charcoal tablets?

mrcandmre · 24/04/2007 09:52

My Mum and Gran both said they had the coal thing whilst pg.
I got and absolutely passionate craving for ICE. Sucking it, chewing it, biting it LOL

I craved coal charcoal. Turned out I was anaemic and the cravings mostly went when I started iron tablets, so get your bloods checked!

rabbleraiser · 24/04/2007 20:06

Hi trace2. My mother had a craving for coal when pregnant with me. My father had to physically remove it from her grasp. I think you ought to Google this and found out what the trace element is that you need, because if you're body is craving it, then (I'm presuming you're pregnant), your baby will need it.

My mum never got to actually eat coal (my dad is such a killjoy), and I've always had weak hair and weak nails (even though neither runs in the family). I often wonder whether that lack of 'essential nutrient' is to blame.

plibble · 24/04/2007 20:06

MKG is right. Wierd cravings (mine was ice) are called pica and are a sign of iron deficiency. Try having some fruit juice (for vit c to help you absorb iron) and red meat. Also, get your iron levels checked - the Dr might want to give you iron tablets.

I loved the smell of tile grout/teracotta pots when both were wet . Discovered it while showering and also while watering the plants.!! The smell was kind of cement/musty lkie but sooooo very lovey Had it both with dd and ds btw.!

JiminyCricket · 24/04/2007 20:16

ice cubes

MrsFish · 24/04/2007 20:22

I can't imagine what it is like to have such a cravings, as \I haven't had the slightest craving for anything, in my last pregnancy or this one.

rabbleraiser · 24/04/2007 20:49

I had a craving for liquorice allsorts when I was pregnant in the third trimester. Funnily enough, and I didn't know it at the time, liquorice is full of iron.

Daisypops · 24/04/2007 21:09

I had a craving for chewing rubber. I used to chew the top of the hot water bottle!!!

Shhh, was it your DP/DH who caught you in the shower sniffing the grout?

trace2 · 25/04/2007 08:15

SleepDeprived4Years · 26/04/2007 15:24

Hiya. I know this is wierd but when I was pregnant with my DS I craved ..... WWE wrestling. Seriously. I was mad for it. DS used to kick hard when he heard the music (he's a bit hyper now - I wonder if that's why). As it was on at strange times during the night I used to set my alarm clock to get up to watch up (much to the amusement of my DH - not). As soon as I had DS I couldn't stand the programme and have never watched it since.

beckmo · 26/04/2007 15:44

Red wine.
Blue cheese.
Parma ham.

Basically anything I can't have. Then again I think I craved those before I was pregnant.
