Something happening or is this just how it feels towards the end?

I'm 37+1 today.

All yesterday I felt uncomfortable and off colour, bit nauseas too but not off my food (the opposite!) a lot of pressure in my uterus and sometimes I also got shooting pains that stopped me in my tracks. I went on a long dog walk and half way round I was regretting it due to the pressure sensation and braxton hicks. It continued til bed time then I got a pretty normal, fairly restful sleep.

I've had lots of discharge this morning and the same pressure but no shooting pains thankfully. Bit of back ache but I think thats more due to sleeping position.

Is this a sign that things are moving along, or is it just generally how you feel towards the end?

Christmas Day baby!!!

owltrousers · 23/12/2017 10:20

@sausagesandwiches oh don't! its my worst nightmare, haha

Sounds like things are moving, but doesn't necessarily mean labour in the next few days. Could still be a week or 2! So in answer to your questions.....yes to both Grin

ijustwannadance · 23/12/2017 10:24

Oh crap, i'm 36+5 and you have pretty much described my day yesterday!

Oysterbabe · 23/12/2017 10:27

Tbh I felt like that for a few weeks at the end. I wouldn't worry too much yet.

sausagesandwiches · 23/12/2017 10:28

Don't worry, I'm only winding you up 😬

I had 2 weeks of this with one of mine

The other I didn't get this at all and was induced 12 days past my due date

If the back ache moves into your legs/thighs it might mean things are a bit closer to happening but it is different for everyone

owltrousers · 23/12/2017 10:28

Thanks everyone - I suspected as much. After Dec 26th I don't mind, just not before please baby!

I've had this for a few weeks, on and off. I think (am now almost 39 weeks) that it was baby moving his head even further down. I have a bad day, then a quiet day with nothing.

I get strong Braxton Hicks if I overdo it too much in the day, so on a strict diet of putting my feet up as ideally I too would rather get past Christmas!

owltrousers · 23/12/2017 10:56

@WanderlustHenpeck I must admit it does feel like baby's head is very low now, at m 36 week appointment he was 3/5ths engaged so I suspect he's even further now.

Right, sorry dog but the walks are being cut down from now on. :)

I've been like this for weeks and but today is my due date and nothing!

juneau · 23/12/2017 11:07

Your body is definitely gearing up for labour. Those twinges, pains, contractions, etc, are all normal in the final few weeks. I would say that the clearest indication that labour is imminent is the loss of your mucus plug, which hasn't happened yet, but once it does then you're on your way.

KCpip · 23/12/2017 13:43

I’m 37 weeks today and you also could have been describing my day yesterday. It’s exciting to know it’s getting nearer but like other posts have said I think it is likely to be weeks rather than days. I read something yesterday that said baby is likely to weigh around 6lbs now. If you think of average baby weights I think they still need those last few weeks inside to pile on the final weight. (And to make sure we’re all as uncomfortable as possible and desperate to meet our babies!!)

runnerbean39 · 23/12/2017 18:00

Also feeling like this for the past three or four days and also my due date today!! I don't care if she arrives on Christmas Day, just want her out lol!

GummyGoddess · 23/12/2017 18:10

Do you have an upset stomach? Pretty sure that was signalling the start of my labour!

Midwife and nct leader said that walking helps bring on labour because it encourages the baby's head onto your cervix and the pressure causes it to start opening. They also said laying down will move baby off of it and might delay labour, so it's worth a shot to lay down for the next few days!

Toasttea · 23/12/2017 18:33

@runnerbean39 same due dates! Aw I feel the same I just want my baby out! I started to lose my plug last Friday, the midwife said it can come away gradually over time. I was so hopeful last week that was it but nope!

jellypi3 · 23/12/2017 20:14

I'm also 37+1 today, been having exactly the same sensations as you. I'm so over being pregnant this time!

GlitteryFluff · 23/12/2017 21:10

I’m 37+3 and feeling the same.
C section booked for the new year.
I’m hoping it’s just general gearing up and not labour and baby will wait, as much as I want her out I don’t want a Christmas Day baby!

ItsChristmoose · 23/12/2017 21:14

I don't think there's anything you've said that indicates anything, all sounds normal for this stage (I'm 36 weeks with #4) so for your own sanity I wouldn't count in anything till you have contractions so bad you can't chat or broken waters! It can still be a long haul from the things you describe unfortunately.

WanderlustHenpeck · 23/12/2017 21:43

I have a section booked for just after Christmas, I'll be almost 40 weeks.

I've basically put myself on bed rest over Christmas, well sofa rest in the hope it might delay things and encourage baby to stay put until his scheduled date! It certainly helps keep the Braxton Hicks at bay and I figured like gummy said you are encouraged to walk to bring on labour and often put on bed rest if you are at risk of premature labour.

On the plus side, I've hear hospitals are quite fun and pleasant over Christmas!

DarthMaiden · 23/12/2017 22:12

As a matter off balance I had no signs of "engagement" at all.

At 37 weeks I felt good and had been at work then started feeling much as you describe OP during the working day:

Didn't think much of it (put it down to BH), went to bed and at 6am my waters broke.

DS was born at 12.15pm - first child.

So tbh i think knocking the dog walks on the head is a good idea (though I walked from home to the hospital whilst in labour - only 10 mins, my choice, DH was beside himself insisting on driving but I felt better "moving" than cramped in a car).

Good luck - sounds like it's not going to be too long and I'd put odds on a 2017 baby rather than 2018 Grin

Winenight · 23/12/2017 22:54

I'm 38+1 and was convinced last night that my waters had broken! I had watery discharge that continued to leak until I got to hospital. We were getting ourselves geared up for delivery in the next couple of days.

However after an examination the midwife confirmed my waters didn't appear to have broken and so was discharged and told to enjoy our Christmas!

I've had some days of really strong Braxton Hicks and other days nothing. I think it's just really hard to tell. It's my first so I have nothing to compare it to either.

Penguin27 · 24/12/2017 05:27

I'm 37+1 today and have felt much the same as you, on and off for a few days. Lots of pressure down there, pain in and around cervix and vagina, period-type pain with backache and more frequent BH contractions... I think it's probably all just normal signs that our bodies are getting ready but doesn't really indicate that labour is imminent!

owltrousers · 24/12/2017 11:04

It's all died off a bit since my original post thankfully! Just generally feeling very heavy and uncomfortable now.

Hows everyone else feeling?

OP posts:
Winenight · 24/12/2017 13:46

Glad it seems to have settled down for you, it's hard to know whether it's anything significant or just a change in hormones/baby moving position etc. I'd had backache the day before and found going to the toilet a lot easier (sorry TMI) so was convinced it was something but actually nothing.

I'm feeling OK today, been sleeping quite well for a change and no more false alarms so looks like at this stage baby will hold out until after Christmas! Got a 39 week scan on Thursday so will see how it's doing then.

Have you much planned for Christmas?

Penguin27 · 27/12/2017 10:02

How is everyone getting on? I'm having more of the period-like pains this morning! Got a midwife appointment today so might mention it to her then, see what she thinks.
