Early gender scan?

Hi all :)

Just wondering who paid for a private gender scan?

It looks like you can get them as early at 16 weeks and I’m very excited about the prospect of finding out gender so soon!

We already had an early scan at 7 weeks and have the NHS 12 week one next week. I think now I know I can find out gender at 16 weeks I don’t think I will be able to wait till 12 week scan! I’m obviously very impatient :)

Is anyone going to do this? Or did you get one and was it accurate? X

We had one and we're told we were having a girl, which was confirmed at the 20 week scan

Hubby just wanted to see the baby again!

Scoleah · 16/12/2017 18:42

I paid for one!
At 18.5 weeks, I couldn't wait until the 20 weeks because I was too excited!
They were Correct too!

Congratulations Thanks

NC1990 · 16/12/2017 19:29

We had one at 16 weeks, were told it was a girl straightaway and was nice to see baby again. She's now 5 weeks old and I can confirm she is very much a girl 😁

PinkSnowAndStars · 16/12/2017 19:34

I had one too at 15 + 6

They could tell straight away that it’s a little boy!

Daisy91 · 16/12/2017 19:43

Thanks everyone. I’m so excited! We’ll be thrilled either way but I just want to buy clothes, name him/ her and start the nursery. :) 15 weeks 6 days PinkSnow- wow that seems so early!

I can’t believe by mid Jan I’ll know- it’s all a bit surreal. X

sex not gender.

(some has to say it, its compulsory now)

BigBaboonBum · 16/12/2017 20:03

I had a babybond gender scan at 16 weeks, very clearly a boy!

welshweasel · 16/12/2017 20:05

I had the harmony test so found out gender at 10 weeks, crazy!

tiltedtree · 17/12/2017 08:01

I had the harmony test and found out at 11 weeks.

Yes, sex not gender please. The things you'll buy may / will be gendered. The name is gendered. Or just buy neutral.

Daisy91 · 17/12/2017 08:17

Thanks for replies everyone....! Definitely going to get one. So excited Grin.

Also going to research harmony test.

The harmony test is expensive - around £400. It tests for the main trisomomies and you can ask for the sex abc they test for sex linked chromosomal issues. I chose to do it as I've had a couple of miscarriages as well as being 40, (and so the nhs screening would have given high odds anyway) and sadly know a few too many women my age who have had to terminate later due to genetic issues incompatible with life. Down's syndrome is not an issue for me, not might Turners have been.

I didn't with my first (it wasn't around) and just waited till the 20 we scan.

If your 12 week scan is actually a bit in the late side - I was dated to be almost 14 weeks with my first - you can tell from photos and the nub angle.

I actually have had mixed feelings about finding out the sex. Hate all the pink blue stuff - we just needed to mentally prepare ourselves the first time round!

Ekphrasis · 17/12/2017 08:32

Sorry, harmony is a dna blood test so the most accurate.

Ekphrasis · 17/12/2017 08:33

Nor Turners that should say.

Daisy91 · 17/12/2017 08:50

Thank you Ekphrasis that’s really useful. X

We had a private scan at 15+5 as my fiancé hadn't been able to come to my 12 week scan. We weren't too bothered about the baby's sex but told the sonographer that if she could tell we would like to know. Think it was more about my fiancé seeing the baby for the first time but it was an amazing bonus to find out we were having a boy!

WelshMammy123 · 17/12/2017 09:01

We had one with our DD at around 18 weeks. DH really wanted to find out and I found that knowing the gender helped me bond with my bump. I'd struggled due to years of infertility and so just couldn't connect bump with baby!

This time around we've booked a gender scan at 17 weeks. Not sure we'll use it now as for various reasons we'll get very regular scans through the nhs. Do you have a 'window to the womb' near you? Not sure if they're just round here (London) but they have a deal on scans at the moment. Think it was £59 instead of £85 with a £20 deposit to pay up front.

Shehz21 · 17/12/2017 09:04

I had one with Babybond at 16weeks+4days.
It was a lovely experience, found out we were having a little girl which got confirmed at the 20 week NHS scan.
Would highly recommend for those who can afford it and impatient mommy/daddy to-be!

Nikki2ol6 · 17/12/2017 09:55

I was soooo impatient I lied about my dates and had one at 15 weeks lol. They said boy and he’s all boy!! I plan on doing the same this time around. Plus I got amazing 4D glimpse and pics

LittleFox01 · 17/12/2017 10:33

I had a private scan at 17 weeks for personal reasons, and found out that I'm having a boy 😊 which was so nice because I can now start preparing for his arrival. I'm 19+5 now so still a long way to go but nearly half way there and I have my 20 week scan at 21+1 so have to wait until 27th December to see the little guy again. X

Girlwiththearabstrap · 17/12/2017 11:32

I had one with my daughter because I lived in a part of the country where they don't tell you the sex at 20 weeks. I waited till after the nhs one though so I knew that everything was medically ok and could just relax with the fun scan.

We've since moved so will just see if they can tell at 20 week scan.

Emmastone123 · 17/12/2017 11:49

Had Harmony test and found out at 11 weeks. Boy Smile
Found it to be really good for bonding with bump when originally I had planned to wait.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 17/12/2017 11:52

Quite a lot of my friends have had them at 16 weeks & they've all been accurate so if you want to & can afford it why not?

Daisy91 · 17/12/2017 13:46

Just checked and it’s only £59 at the private clinic where I live.

Littlefox, how lovely-nice that you can start planning for your little boy :)
