IVF - no foetal pole on Scan

I'm going someone out there can tell me there is still a chance...
I am 6w4d today (and I know exactly as we had IVF), but Scan today showed a gestational sac and yolk sac but no foetal pole or heartbeat. Measuring slightly small too.
Is there any hope? I have another scan on Monday. I'm currently devastated as they told me 'we'd expect to see more development at this stage'. Sad thanks x

'Hoping' not going!

I had ivf and didn't see feotal pole until 7 weeks. I've 4 yr old twins now so don't give up hope x

BertieBotts · 01/12/2017 16:47

6w4d is really early days. I don't know how it works with IVF but could it be the dates are slightly out? Sometimes just seeing yolk sac and gest sac just means the pregnancy isn't as advanced as it could be. Not necessarily meaning that something is wrong.

Flameredbus · 01/12/2017 16:52

Cant offer any advice but sending good thoughts your way

ItsLikeRainOnYourWeddingDay · 01/12/2017 16:56

Dates are exact with ivf Bertie.

I would expect at that age that there would be a pole heartbeat and sac but as another person said there will always be those who aren’t textbook.

My ivf son measured behind in length at a 6wk 5 day scan. He is 3 now.

I would be prepared for bad news but don’t give up hope yet. You made an embryo, it implanted, it grew. Ivf has worked for you. This might be just one of those shitty things that happen. Happened to me too. Now I have 2 children. Take care.

JoJoSM2 · 01/12/2017 17:01

Not the perfect news. Have they asked you to come back in a week or two to check? That’s likely to hold more definitive answers for you.

Hobbes39 · 01/12/2017 17:29

Thank you all for responding, and for giving me some hope but my false hope. I have pretty much given up, but clinging on by a last thread at the moment. It measure the right size 4 days go, but the rescanned me today as they are concerned the other embryo (we put back 2) could be ectopic as there's something on the Scan they aren't sure about. That was inconclusive today, but embryo in right place isn't looking good Sad. Monday should tell us for sure about both...

Typo again. 'But not false hope'

I had a similar experience, also IVF. First scan at just over 6 weeks saw the blob but no sign of heartbeat or pole. Sonographer said my uterus was very far away, as I’m very tall, and also there was still a lot of fluid in my pelvis from OHSS. A week later heartbeat was there, but measuring small, again she said possibly due to distance. Now 11 weeks and measuring bang on (despite threatened miscarriage).

I have everything crossed for you - it’s so stressful. Sonographer told me there are many reasons why early scans can miss stuff, so not to panic til we know for sure. (Of course I panicked in the car all the way home and for the next week.)

I hope it all works out ok for you 🤞

Hobbes39 · 02/12/2017 10:51

Thanks dinks - I'm so glad to hear that it seems to be progressing well for you, I hope it continues 🤞.
I hope that the same happens for me, but to be honest, I don't think it will. I feel less pregnant today, breast tenderness has subsided a bit and no queasiness which I had started to feel last weekend. I do have a tilted uterus so I have a slight question in the sock of my mind that maybe it's cos of that that they can't see the pole, but I'm clutching at straws. Monday will tell me I guess. It just all feels so so unfair and I'm struggling to keep myself from crumbling apart right now. X

Hobbes I’m so sorry :( It is really rotten, to have the hope snatched away. Thinking of you and sending all my luck your way for Monday.

custarddinosaur · 02/12/2017 11:31

It's quite common, I believe, for it to not be visible until 8/9 weeks, so try not to worry. Best wishes

cherryontopp · 02/12/2017 22:41

Good luck for monday. My ivf clinic wouldnt scan until 8 weeks, by that time theres a heart beat.

RainbowsAndUnicorns23 · 04/12/2017 10:43

Good luck for today. X

LeaderoftheAteam · 04/12/2017 11:11

Good luck!

EastDulwichWife · 04/12/2017 11:30

Good luck today Hobbes! I had no fetal pole at 6w, but they could see one at 7w. There's definitely still hope! Will keep my fingers crossed for you.

Hobbes39 · 04/12/2017 14:41

Thanks all - there was no foetal pole or heartbeat this time either, so it's all over for me sadly... the gestational sac has grown slightly, but is only measuring 6 weeks when I'm meant to be 7 weeks. Protocol says that I have to go back in a week to absolutely confirm, and then options for what we can do will be discussed. To have got so close, by have it snatched away is hard, but I'm trying to stay positive as we do have 2 blasts in the freezer, so can try again with those. X

I'm so sorry. Xx

Numbersgames · 04/12/2017 14:49

I am so sorry Hobbes. It's heartbreaking.

Flameredbus · 04/12/2017 19:27

Hi Hobbes i am going through this exact thing right now too but am a few weeks ahead of you. I found out at 7 weeks and now at 9 weeks i have had it confirmed. I am so sorry. It hurts i know it does but i have slowly got my head (if not my heart) around it. Thinking of you and know you are not alone

Hobbes39 · 04/12/2017 19:50

Thanks for all your lovely messages - it does help. What isn't helping much at the moment is my body has a twisted sense of humour - I have barely felt queasy at all, just the odd moment here and there last week, but this evening I have been feeling really queasy for the last 2 hours. What a time for morning sickness to kick in...
@Flameredbus - so sorry you are also going through this Thanks. Are you waiting a bit to see if your body will miscarry naturally or will you go for op/ drug? I'm not sure what's best to do - especially with Christmas coming up - I'd rather avoid starting to miscarry over the Christmas turkey.... Sad x

CoffeeAndCupcakes85 · 04/12/2017 21:39

I am so very sorry for both of you. It is a horrible thing to go through and seems very cruel. I hope you both have plenty of real life support to help you and your partners Flowers x

Hobbes39 · 04/12/2017 22:45

@Flameredbus - good luck for tomorrow x
