Well, just signed up and watched all of the vids to get my free box. Wound up paying for shipping as was a lot easier in my area that trekking over to Berkshire to collect and will keep people posted as to what arrives, but what a fantastic thing to offer!

www.babyboxuniversity.com/

It's very basic and a little bit patronising in places (my husband was laughing when I was just screaming 'Show me the science' at one of the videos) but I was really impressed that they're doing it at all frankly. We're going to use our box as our downstairs bed for the baby!

Anyone else done it and got the box? Worth it? Just thought i'd start the discussion as I couldn't find one on here!

I hadn't heard of it but having looked at the website I'm a bit dubious - there's no detail about what's in the box or where in the UK it's available... I'm wary of giving them my details, getting signed up to all kinds of spam, and then not getting any freebies in return. Is it legit? Can you link to any kind of information about who is eligible for a box?

Jessiecat27 · 20/11/2017 17:15

My mum was wary too, I got mine, you don't get them full of items like you do in Finland etc but I'm hoping to use mine downstairs saves carrying the moses basket up and down the stairs and then for storage when he gets too big for it!

Binglesplodge · 20/11/2017 17:20

Ah, it's just the cardboard box? Thanks - this is baby number 2 for me so I've got enough upstairs/downstairs sleeping places. Not that the first one cared how many beds I provided; he only slept on me...!!

Expectingbsbunumber2 · 20/11/2017 17:27

I got mine last week its massive and so much stuff inside!

CL1982 · 20/11/2017 17:27

Hmm.....I had thought it came with the stuff in it?

Maybe I missed out on the freebies then ):

weebarra · 20/11/2017 17:30

The Scottish one is like the Finnish version with stuff inside it, but it’s distributed by the government.

NickMyLipple · 20/11/2017 17:38

I signed up to this - despite the head offices being about 15 minutes drive in rural West Sussex I have to go into London to collect my box as that's the nearest distributor Confused

Flumplet · 20/11/2017 17:38

I got a box with naff all inside other than a sheet for the mattress. It’s alright for free though!

Flumplet · 20/11/2017 17:39

Anyone know of any other similar freebies? it’s given me a hunger!

mindutopia · 20/11/2017 17:46

I read an article about this yesterday. Be very careful. The advice in the videos is awful and not at all evidence-based. I wouldn't be wasting my time listening to it or giving them my contact details.

CL1982 · 20/11/2017 18:00

Flumpet yes - i signed up to Beaming Baby for some freebies and also as an Ambassador for Naty - you have to recommend three friends but they apparently send you some things....?

CL1982 · 20/11/2017 18:01

@flumpet I love that i have watched several crap videos for what is basically a box Hmm Grin

I thought at least i'd have a mattress in there!!!!

OP posts:
Flumplet · 20/11/2017 18:12

It’s a good box for keeping baby related crap in. Shame there’s no lid but I guess some doofus would need to be told not to put the lid on with the baby inside Hmm

BigBaboonBum · 20/11/2017 18:16

I received the card for a free one off my midwife but I haven’t sent it off yet. I was going to get it and donate it to a food bank type place, it may help somebody with a newborn who can’t afford a bed etc

CL1982 · 20/11/2017 20:16

@BigBaboonBum That is actually a lovely idea!!!

Alicantine · 29/12/2017 13:15

@CL1982 Did it arrive? Ordered mine today ! What was inside yours?

CL1982 · 29/12/2017 13:27

@Alicantine It did indeed!

It's lovely and I am really pleased I did it. We think it will be the baby's downstairs nap zone and we got some muslins and two sheets for the mattress. We're then going to use it for a to y box when the baby is bigger. It was a really lovely thing to have and great it was for free :)

Alicantine · 29/12/2017 16:25

@CL1982 that's great. Sorry to clarify but it DID have a mattress right? Not just the 2 sheets and box?

In any case thanks for the update. Where I live there are plenty of places to pick it from but all require appointments at times I can't really go in so I've paid for delivery too.

Looking forward to receiving it and thanks for sharing :).

CL1982 · 29/12/2017 16:52

@Alicantine Yes lovely Mattress was all there :D

As a pp said the baby box university scheme is different to the Scottish scheme, which is all paid for by the government.

The baby box university one is paid for by the brands who put their stuff inside, as a way of advertising and of getting data. Thus the contents can change, and could be absolutely anything as long as the brand can afford to do it.
It’s effectively a bounty pack, but in a box.

GummyGoddess · 29/12/2017 19:03

I have one, it has a lid, mattress, sheets, muslin, water wipes and a ton of leaflets which are in recycling Grin

It will be the downstairs nap area and the box has moons and clouds all over it and is adorable.

thaigreencurry82 · 29/12/2017 22:29

I’ve got mine it’s adorable. Has mattress, sheets, muslin and a couple of free samples similar to what you get in the Bounty pack.
