Hi I’m currently roughly 20 weeks pregnant I’ve tried ringing my local gp for nearly 4 weeks trying to get an appotment but keep saying they are full, I told them what it’s about and they told me it’s not is there anywhere else I can go instead of local
Gp? As they’ve never been very good?

Local walk in centre? A&e? Demand an emergency app from Gp.

What’s the problem, why do you need to go?

Shehz21 · 19/11/2017 16:06

Same problem as you OP.
Bumping for you.

MagicMoneyTree · 19/11/2017 16:10

Depends what you need to see them for really. Pharmacist, midwife, walk-in centre, 111, A&E all options but it really depends on your symptoms/ what the problem is.

Babymummyandbump · 19/11/2017 17:27

It’s about a confirmation of pregnancy! To see a midwife for the first time but they saying they have no appointments bearing in mind I’ve had no help whatsoever I just keep ringing up

I didn't go through my doctors with either of my pregnancies.
Go on to your local hospitals website, and there should be an area on there for 'booking' with a community midwife.

QueenAravisOfArchenland · 19/11/2017 17:35

But there's nothing whatsoever your GP can do to confirm that. Most people don't get seen at all in their pregnancies by their GP. How do you know you are 20 weeks if you haven't had any antenatal care?

CrossFreelancer · 19/11/2017 17:39

Goodness. At 20 weeks pregnant you should have had several appointments and at least an ultrasound.

The GP doesn't usually deal with pregnancies. So phone the surgery and tell them you need an urgent midwife appointment. They will squeeze you in if you think you are 20 weeks.

Your 20 week anomaly scan is very important and needs to be done asap.

Babymummyandbump · 19/11/2017 17:44

Because I know I’m deffo 20 weeks not going in any detail and no the gp said no appointments for at least 4 weeks

OP posts:
CrossFreelancer · 19/11/2017 17:47

Are they saying there are no GP appointments for 4 weeks?
Because you don't need a GP appointment. You need a midwife appointment?

Babymummyandbump · 19/11/2017 17:47

You have to see a gp to confirm pregnancy here, you can’t just go into a midwife! It would be a lot easier if I could

OP posts:
JoJoSM2 · 19/11/2017 17:49

For starters, change GP’s to a surgery that isn’t so full.

Have a look online if you can self refer to a midwife as that’s possible in many areas. However, it’d be worth you contacting the local antenatal department directly. Unfortunately, you’ve already missed out on a lot of important care so the sooner you do that the better.

AutumnLeavesandCandleLights · 19/11/2017 17:50

Your GP doesn't have to confirm your pregnancy whatsoever. I've never done that and neither has anyone I know.
Which part of the country are you in?

I'm just outside of London, and both times with both of my babies I've phoned a booking line from my local hospitals web page, left my details and a midwife phones back, has a quick chat then a letter comes through the post with an appointment time.

Babymummyandbump · 19/11/2017 17:50

Could I go into primary care at the hospital or are they not able to deal with that? I’m so confused in what to do it’s making me cry everyday 😞

OP posts:
Bluename · 19/11/2017 17:52

Have you not seen a midwife at all? Have you had your 12 week dating scan?

QueenAravisOfArchenland · 19/11/2017 17:53

I'm sorry but if you know you're 20 weeks, you're going to get some questions asked as to why you haven't self-referred for care some time ago. And if you have irregular periods and this wasn't out of the norm for you, then you don't know that for sure.

Either way you need a scan, and for that you should contact the local midwifery department directly.

Babymummyandbump · 19/11/2017 17:54

And don’t really want a letter threw door I’m only 18 have a 2 year old already and live with my mum so I don’t really want her knowing until I do

Babymummyandbump · 19/11/2017 17:54

I’ve loterally only just found out, I have periods through my pregnancy I did with my first, i also used contraception but I did a test and it’s come back positive

OP posts:
Whymustyoubringinthebirds · 19/11/2017 17:55

Tbh I would be inclined to phone the local maternity unit and explain the situation as has been stated you have missed important appointments perhaps they can refer you to the community midwives/give you the number to contact them on

AutumnLeavesandCandleLights · 19/11/2017 17:57

Your local hospital should have a page resembling this.

pregnancy
Bluename · 19/11/2017 17:57

Do you remember the process for your 2 years old?
Can you contact the antenatal department of the hospital yourself tomorrow and explain the problem. They might be able to give you an appointment over the phone so no letter will be posted. If you haven’t seen a midwife you need to see one ASAP. If you need the doctor to refer you then you need to call the doctor surgery and explain to them that you are 20 weeks and haven’t seen a midwife yet. Can you not get an emergency appointment at the doctor?

Babymummyandbump · 19/11/2017 17:58

ibe Not had nothing I’ve not known till 3 weeks ago I’ve rung my surgery every day and they keep saying no appointments and I can’t book in advance

OP posts:
Babymummyandbump · 19/11/2017 17:59

ive tried everything, everyone’s saying I haven’t but they said if it’s an emergency to go to a&e

OP posts:
Bluename · 19/11/2017 18:02

Change your doctors surgery.
When I was pregnant with my pregnant with my son, I needed to get a referral from the doctor to see the midwife but this time I could self refer.
Sorry you are having so much problems
