Twin mums speak to me about prams

Hi all
As title says please speak to me about Prams. I had my heart set on a bugaboo donkey a few twin mums had recommended them but then at same time a lot have also advised against them.
What’s everyone got / thinking of getting? I prefer the ones where they are side by side which I think leaves me the bugaboo donkey and the mountain buggy duet. I prefer them parent facing too as long as possible.

I've gone for mountain buggy duet. I haven't used it yet but it's assembled and looks pretty good. Main selling point for me was it being so narrow in comparison so other side by sides. No issues manoeuvring it through my flat. My almost 2 year old is very comfortable sat in it so hopefully it will last a while.

You need one where they can both lie flat

I’ve got twins, almost a year and have mountain buggy.
It has parent facing option if you buy carrycot. It’s so much narrower than the donkey, I don’t actuallu think you could go inside many places with the donkey whereas mountain buggy fits everywhere. My kids now fight in the pram Which is making me consider get a Phil and teds or something where they can be out of each other’s reach

The only thing that was swaying me from the mountain buggy was the fact it looked like once they outgrew the carrycot they needed to be forward facing but just found that can have them still parent facing on the newer ones. So do they fit through standard doorways? Has anyone used the car seats with them i just read a review on the fact having two car seats on you have to take bits off the pram or something? I’m trying to think practically for the school runs etc if it’s easier to just clip them on in car seats or take them both out of car seats to put into the carry cots?!

I have nearly 2 year old twins. We bought the Uppababy Vista to begin with because the carrycot is approved for overnight sleep and you can fit car seats on it. It also has a huge basket which is also useful when my eldest was little and wanted to sit instead of standing on the buggy board. We also have an out n about which we bought when they were about 5 months to go on holiday and it is very smooth and easy to push. But it doesn't come with a basket and the handles aren't adjustable, if you or DH are tall. Also, the squabble more because they are right by each other and can grab things away from the other. Yes with the new mountain buggy the carrycots turn into parent facing seats.
I had the car seats. You have to put adapters on so if you are constantly changing between carrycot and car seats it’s a bit of a faff. I would not recommend taking the carrycots in your car - you have to remove them before folding down the buggy and they are massive. Won’t fit in a lot of boots i reckon. If just clipping on car seats and you already have adapters it’s easy. And yes fits through even narrow doorways.

@landy Im happy to just use car seats when I do the school run as it’s literally twenty mins if that in the playground. We are getting a bigger car anyway as need a 7 seater to safely transport the twins, and my 7 and 3 year old in their appropriate car seats. My seven year old is still in a high back booster.
So if you have the adpaters on you can’t use the carrycots but if I did want to use the carrycots I can just put them on instead is that right?
I’m going to drag oh to look at some next week at a few local shops I think. Neither of us are very tall (5,7”) so handle height isn’t too bad we had a quinny zapp with my dd and that was low down.

I had the mountain buggy Duet (not twins but newborn and 18mo) and it was fab in many ways.

However I did not rate the "parent-facing seat" at all - it's super flimsy and says on it that it's only suitable for 6 months and over.

Given that my newborn grew out of the very narrow carrycot at 10 weeks (!!) I was then stuck and had to have the newborn world-facing in the main-seat fully reclined which I hated.

I spent every day wishing I'd just got the bloody donkey after all. It is huge though.

I have new baby twins and a mountain buggy duet. For now I use either car seat attachments or carry cots. The carry coats adapt for extended parent facing. I'm liking it a lot more that the bugaboo chameleon I had for my first child.

I had the donkey for my twins and LOVED it. The ability to turn it into a single (and use a buggy board) is great when they are older. In fact, I used it as my main buggy when I had my third as well, mostly in single mode but occasionally in double mode with the buggy board on so I could get all three around. My twins are 4 and a half and I am only now getting rid of it.

It is big and heavy if you need to put it into the car a lot but the ease of pushing made a big difference.

@freebutton do you find it’s too bulky to get through doors etc?
@starwhisperer how are you finding the mountain buggy? I like the fact can be parent facing longer with carrycot plus (and the price compared to bugaboo) but then worried as pp said the seat bit was flimsy?
@mayfayner can I ask was your 10 week old a larger baby? Only asking as my ds when he was 7 weeks outgrew his carrycot on a quinny we had but he was such a large boy (8lb8oz when born) so just wondering if that played a factor?

Hey, twin mum here. We love our mountain buggy duet. (And have the carrycot+ and car seat adapters for sale at the mo!)
We lived the fact that you can have the option of parent facing, but found the boys were just looking round so have changed to world facing now.
We love it. It's the same width as a wheelchair. Ok it's a bit heavy, but the air-filled tyres make it a dream to push and it turns really easily. We have found the seats really supportive and they can lie down easily if one of them wants a nap.
I cannot recommend this more highly.
Did I mention we have two of the carrycot+, plus seats, plus car seat adapters for sale? :)

My twins are 9 weeks and only around 8lbs each so still pretty small. At the moment I'm happy with the carrycots but they are smaller than usual. For now the maneuverability this gives me over a bulkier pram is preferable. I'm thinking with my girls being so small they're less likely to outgrow the carrycot before they want to be looking at the world.

@star that’s what I keep thinking although iv had big babies in the past I think the twins will be smaller. I am swaying more to the mountain buggy I think.

OP, yes he was a big baby! For sure. He was 9lb 9oz at birth. I don't know what he was when he was 10 weeks but there was nowhere for his arms to go in the carrycot- you know how they do the surrender pose when asleep?

I'm sure a normal sized baby would get longer from the carrycot. But I do seem to recall seeing it said "up to 4 months" and thinking- what are you meant to do for the intervening two months?

If I had my chance again I'd go for the donkey just because of my own situation, but I did love the mountain buggy in lots of ways.

We went for the mountain buggy duet.

Money was tight so we didn’t have the carrycots so I had to go outward facing right from the start.

Flat seats with a cosy-toes was almost like the carrycot and the little windows in the hoods let me look down at them.

Yes it fits though a standard door. When my guys were littler, if they fell asleep on the school run I’d bring it in the front door and into the kitchen to let them sleep.

I found the air filled tyres a nuisance as they kept getting flats so I bought the other wheels and have found them so much better (there are lots of alleys on the school run and I kept getting thorns in my tyres and getting flats)

It does take up a lot of space in a car though. Not sure if you would fit it in a 7 seater with one or both boot-seats up. (Not sure I could squeeze it into my grand scenic) so you’d need to bear that in mind.

Thanks ladies I may have to try some out too (cars that is) I’m sure dh is on about getting a ford galaxy so we are gonna look at some and boot space first. We currently have a little clio Which is perfect for dh myself and our two but not practical for two more.
I’m gonna go test drive a few I think and then go look at some boots and try make my mind up. I do appreciate all your opinions it does help. Thankyou

Not all twins are small. Mine were 6 & 7lb at birth but in a couple of weeks they’d gone to 75 and 99th centile and there they stayed.

Not twins here either (16 months apart) but I bought a Bugaboo Donkey and really regretted it. My criteria were similar to yours in that I wanted side by side and parent facing seats and in those respects it did the job but it was very unwieldy, did not push well and just had a lot of bad design aspects. Wheels that deflate for goodness sake - pumping up tyres is not what you need with 2 little ones. Also DD1 was v quickly too big for it as she's is a small girl. The seat didn't seem to have enough 'bum space' - can't think of how else to describe it. She constantly looked like she was about to fall out. We did sell it on at half its original cost before DD2 was 12 months but it still rates as my biggest waste of money ever.

I had a bugaboo donkey with my 12 month age gap and absolutely loved it. It ticked every box for us and was like my third child

I changed to a out and about nipper double after 2 years and that was really nice to push too and the seats were very cosy, I didn’t regret the change at all but not sure I’d use it with a newborn as you can’t attach a car seat.

I’m now pregnant with twins so also trying to decide which pushchair to get! I’ve not tried the mountain buggy as nowhere near me stocks a demo model, annoyingly.

I had the icandy double pram and it was faultless, I loved it. The only problem is its pricey if brought brand new but there's plenty on offer on eBay that are much cheaper x

I haven't twins, but a 4 month old and 2 year old.

You can barely fit bugaboo donkey through doors, there too wide in my opinion

Have a look at some videos of the icandy peach 3 double there lovely, perfect size, parent facing , or world facing, three point recline, big basket underneath, strong and soo so easy to pack away in the car. Have a look at them there the best, come in lots of different colours to x

I had a donkey when mine were born, sold it when they were 9 months old for a BJCM twin.

If I was to do it again I would skip the bugaboo and just get the BJCM with the carry cots.
