Hi I've just found out I'm expecting my 3rd baby at 38. It wasn't planned but I am happy. But my hubby is really concerned with my age and how we will cope. Any advice x

I'm 37 and pregnant with my third. The only difference with this pregnancy compared with my others (in my 20s) is a little extra tiredness and backache. Apart from that it's been a healthy happy one.

The extra tiredness and backache could be purely coincidental though.

I wouldn't worry op , just take care of yourself and congratulations!

38 isn’t old to have a baby nowadays, you’ll be grand.

DLD1201 · 14/10/2017 09:56

Thank you its really nice to hear from someone in the same boat and congratulations too.

I had my first at 38 I was extremely tired (but have nothing to compare it to). The birth was very straightforward and everything was ok so much so that we had a second at 39. You'll be fine but perhaps a lot more tired. Enjoy.

I'm not in your position but I wouldn't think there was anything odd in a 38 year old having their third baby! Why is your OH worried? Congratulations Flowers

AnonEvent · 14/10/2017 10:05

I had my first at 38, my dear friend had hers at 40, 41 and 43 (though had the benefit of a live-in nanny to ease the 'three children under 3' concerns).

You'll be great, how exciting!

I'm 31wks pregnant with my 1st at 39yrs old. Certainly didn't feel I was too old!
Congratulations x

I am 38 and pregnant with my second, we didn't plan it Blush. I have noticed that I am more tired than I was with my first pregnancy which was 10 years ago but I also have a very active job which doesn't allow me to sit much so this may not be helping either. My partner was also worried about my age but I guess that we just need to adapt. I seem to fall sleep very early in the evening and he takes charge of bedtime routine with DD so not too bad.

Congratulations and enjoy it OP

Step mum had her 4th at 38 and she and my dad are coping fine despite him having the most energy of us all (blended family of 8 kids). MiL also had her 9th and last at the age of 39... and she's coped fine from the looks of it. She is crazy though... in the nicest way. She herself has loads of energy and has to be doing something

I'm 34 and due next week with number 2. 38 with dc3 is honestly nothing these days. You'll yet can additional point on the "risk list " for being over 35 but other than that I can't see why you won't have a normal pregnancy and honestly nobody will bat an eye lid. Women are having babies well into their 40s now, I really don't think itscan issue. Congratulations and good luck with your pregnancy x

StepAwayFromGoogle · 14/10/2017 16:35

OP, I had my first when I was 38, pregnant with my second at 41. You'll be absolutely fine. Bloody knackered but absolutely fine x

Bubble04 · 15/10/2017 08:27

In the same boat here. 38 and just found out we're pregnant with DC3. Still early days with us, and was a bit nervous about age at first, but actually 38 is not unusual nowadays. I know plenty of people who had babies much later and everything has been fine x

reetgood · 15/10/2017 08:37

I'm 37 with my first and so far have been a low risk pregnancy. Midwife says it's after 40 for women without other risk factors, that age is a big consideration. If we have another I'll likely be pushing 40 with a second.

midsummabreak · 15/10/2017 08:44

Congratulations! I was 38 when I had my 3rd and 40 when I had my 4th. I had healthy pregnancies, and they were all gorgeous as babies.

ndo4000 · 15/10/2017 09:15

37 here and pregnant with dc3!!! Loving the experience! My dcs are 10 & 8 and it feels like a real family adventure this time round.

Oldschool41 · 16/10/2017 08:55

If you think 38 is old I'm 41 and 31 weeks pregnant. I don't feel old a little more tired than I did with my youngest 21years ago but that's it. 😉

GreggsSausageRolls · 16/10/2017 17:21

Another one here organs with dc3. I'm 38, but have sent boys downstairs to practise spellings while I lie down in bed before doing dinner. I'm struggling more this time but I have 3 dc in primary school so shattered. We can do it! BlushWinkSmileGrin

GreggsSausageRolls · 16/10/2017 17:27

Pregnant not organs ffs

Flomper · 16/10/2017 17:30

why is he concerned ? you're only 38. Thats lretty average for a pregnancy round here. I wqs 39nwhen i had my last. My friend was 44 when she jad her first. Someone I know has just had their second at 44 and i also know someones who had their third at 47!

Bananamama1213 · 16/10/2017 17:36

I'm pretty sure my mum was 37 when she had my youngest sister (who was her 4th child).

Honestly she coped absolutely fine! She had another young child at the time, who was 2. She worked from home as a beautician up until the day before her csection.

Single parent to 4 children and she still managed to cook us all tea, clean the house and make packed lunches. Me and my sister helped with babysitting and tidying where we could. But she was very on top of everything!

She discharged herself the day after her section and was hoovering a few days after she returned home! But it was her 4th section so she was a pro by then haha!

At 38, it will be fine!

It got awkward for my mum because I had a child at 18. So there's not even 3 years between my eldest and her youngest!! People have called her nanny to her children Blush

redsunstorm · 16/10/2017 17:36

Had my second six months ago at 39. More tired than when I had my first at 24 but no health problems etc at all. Congratulations!

Orangebird69 · 16/10/2017 17:37

I had my first at 40. Great pregnancy, good birth, healthy ds Smile

sourpatchkid · 16/10/2017 17:41

38 with my first, no problems at all. Less tired than my friends who did it at 20
