Hi I've just found out I'm expecting my 3rd baby at 38. It wasn't planned but I am happy. But my hubby is really concerned with my age and how we will cope. Any advice x

Out of interest when are you/did you tell people you were pregnant?

Mytimenow · 16/10/2017 17:59

I was 37 when my 3rd son was born, My 2 previous pregnancies were horrendous with hyperemesis and lots of hospital admissions so I didn't think I'd be able to cope with a third pregnancy but I got through it, my sickness was milder but I stillremember getting up in the morning throwing up constantly whilst getting the younger two ready for school, driving with an empty Tupperware box in car for emergency sick stops but got through it and as soon as he was born he just fitted into our routine perfectly. He started secondary school in September and my eldest went away to University and middle one started GCSE's! Enjoy every moment from pregnancy to life as parents of 3 it's hard at times but I'd do it all over again to have my babies small again! Congratulations by the way.

It’s a fairly normal age for 2nd child for a professional couple in a developed country. Enjoy your pregnancy. Smile

DLD1201 · 16/10/2017 19:31

You have all made me feel very positive. I will be 39 when I give birth!!

My DS2 is 8 months old and I'm 39. It's all good just far more tiring than I remember when I had DS1 at 29! You be fine, just rest lots whenever you get the chance! X

Orangebird69 · 16/10/2017 20:11

greggs, we told parents straight away, then our siblings at 14 weeks (after trisomy test results etc came back clear), then everyone else after the 20 week scan. I didn't want too many people knowing before we knew everything was ok.

Esined1976 · 16/10/2017 22:25

38 isn't old at all. I'm 41 and 3 months pregnant with my second. My husband is almost 48.

Jamhandprints · 16/10/2017 22:51

Goodness, OP, I think I'm in exactly the same situation! Too early to test but I'm pretty sure. How old are your other two? My DSs will be 4 and 6. I think it will be easier in some ways than having a toddler and a newborn. I do have some concerns about the birth but we're not that old! :-) x

Autumndays14 · 16/10/2017 23:01

I am also in the same situation, but planned and out other two are 4 and 6. I am actually feeling far more relaxed than I was with number 2, as due to the age gap we won't be trying to cope with a baby and a toddler this time, just a baby and two more independent children who go to bed at night! It's an adventure for the whole family. Don't worry about age at all. I am in London and many of the mums I know didn't even have their first until they were 38/39!

DLD1201 · 16/10/2017 23:07

Jamhandprints mine are 6 and 2 so I will have the dilemma of a toddler and newborn lol. I told my sister today and the look of panic was a picture, when I asked why so shocked and she said she was worried for me and my health. Wasn't expecting that reaction tbh Angry

Autumndays14 · 16/10/2017 23:19

I don't understand concerns about health? Not 'old' at all. I have generally found people have a negative reaction though, so many people have felt the need to tell me that I will be busy or that we will need a new car!

OuchLegoHurts · 17/10/2017 08:15

I'm almost 8 weeks pregnant and I'm 38. There's a ten year gap between my twins and this baby but I'm delighted with that as it's almost like a first pregnancy again in that I'm able to nap and relax and not run around after toddlers! It wasn't planned but I'm delighted now that I've gotten my head around it. We told people pretty much straight away as we would like their support if a miscarriage did occur.

BagelDog · 17/10/2017 16:24

I HAd my third at 38 and was my easiest pregnancy by far. Now 40 and pregnant with number 4, probably 41 when they arrive, and all going well. You really are not that elderly!

GreggsSausageRolls · 18/10/2017 21:09

Out of interest how much weight did you gain with second/third/fourth pregnancies? I’ve just realised as only carbs curb my nausea I’ve ballooned 😕still in first trimester ffs

OuchLegoHurts · 18/10/2017 23:05

I'm totally relying on carbs too but I'm planning on cutting back in second trimester and walking more when I'm not as tired. I had reached my target weight just as I got pregnant so really don't want to undo all my good work!

LiveArtLocal · 03/12/2017 23:18

I am so glad I've found this thread. I found out on my birthday last weekend that I am pregnant with my third having just turned 38 (last week) and my emotions are all over the place about it. One minute I am really happy and excited, the next I am crying and worried it will kill me...

I am a wheelchair user as well due to chronic health condition but in many ways I feel better now than when I had my first two (youngest will be 7 at Christmas) but still I am really stressed and keep reading scare stories about 3rd pregnancies which is freaking me out.

Anyhow wonderful to read such positive stuff. I am so hormonal right now and nearing the 1 year anniversary of my dad's death later this week and this has just made me feel so much better knowing there are quite a lot of mums my age expecting :)

SilverLinings2014 · 04/12/2017 07:22

I was 35 when DD was born. She’s 3 today Grin

Now 36 weeks along with DC2 and will be 38 (almost 39) when he arrives. More tired for sure but otherwise fine.

You’ll be grand. Congratulations and enjoy

DLD1201 · 09/08/2018 23:33

Thanks for updating. Congratulations OP! Bear

flumpybear · 10/08/2018 07:20

Congrats! I had my second at 40

timeisnotaline · 10/08/2018 07:22

I’m 35 on mat leave with dc2. Planning on being pregnant with dc3 at 37, and possibly dc4... I get hyperemesis so it’s not a walk in the park.

flapjackfairy · 10/08/2018 07:26

Oh that is lovely
I had my last birth children at nearly.37 but adopted a 2 yr old at 51 so I am an older mother again. I feel no different to when I was a young mum first time around in my 20s .
Enjoy your new little girl x

Lipsticktraces · 10/08/2018 07:33

Congratulations opFlowers Tell your husband that you’re 38, not deadWink I’m pregnant with my first babies (twins) at the grand old age of 39.

Best of luck.
