Am I Miscarrying???

OliviaFullman · 02/10/2017 05:40

Please help me!

I woke up on the early hours of this morning with sharp period pains. When I went to the toilet there was red blood and I am still losing red blood now.

I wouldn't be so concerned if there wasn't the pain too.

I am 12 weeks tomorrow and due my 12 week scan on Tuesday. After calling the Emergency EPU at 4am they have cancelled my routine 12 week scan in favour of an "emergency scan" which isn't until Wednesday!!!

I don't know what to do. This is my first pregnancy and I am 34.

My sickness and sore breasts have subsided so I'm worried that I have lost my baby: having to wait for 3 days seems crazy to me!

Olivia

So sorry that you are going through this.
It is possible to have bleeding during pregnancy and not miscarry.
The thing is, even if you are miscarrying there is nothing that can be done to prevent it happening.
You do need to look after yourself though. I think it's important that you know whether you are miscarrying early so that you know what pain relief you can use. It's not on that they have given you a scan date on Wednesday. Can you push for an earlier scan?

OliviaFullman · 02/10/2017 05:56

My partner said to call again in the morning and push for a better resolution than waiting for 3 days.

My partner works off shore and goes away again for a month on Thursday. If I lose this baby I will be without him as well.

I am so scared

Some hospitals have a walk-in scan centre for emergencies, see if there is one nearby?

The uncertainty is the worst thing so I would certainly push to minimise that if you can.

I hope you get a positive outcome.

Fluffybrain · 02/10/2017 06:11

Yes I agree, call first thing. And say that you're in pain and want to take pain relief but are not sure what's safe to take as you don't know if you are miscarrying or not. You need to know. Do you have any other friends or family who can support you either way when your partner goes away for work? Might be good to speak to them today to tell them what's happening and ask for support.

Cupoteap · 02/10/2017 06:12

I'm so sorry you are going through this. Call your me in the morning and see if she can help.

OliviaFullman · 02/10/2017 07:07

I have left a message on my MW answerphone explaining what is happening. Hopefully she will call me back today.

I will call my doctors surgery when it opens and see what they say.

I just need to know what's happening. I've had such a lovely pregnancy up until now and my partner and I were both super excited for our scan on Tuesday...now this!

I am sorry. This happened to me too, and I had to wait for an emergency scan too. There are private clinics and I managed to get a private scan before the NHS one. What that showed was a healthy fetus. I never had an explaination for the blood loss (and it was a lot) and I went onto have a healthy baby. He is now 11.

If you are near Solihull I know there is a clinic there. They were really good.

OliviaFullman · 02/10/2017 07:20

Thank you @Llareggub that is somewhat reassuring! Did you have pain with your bleeding?

I live in Cornwall unfortunately and I don't know that we have that facility down here 😢

I am sorry I don't remember now. Best of luck x

Expectingbsbunumber2 · 02/10/2017 07:36

If it's possible can't you get upto a hospital? They can't turn you away

Sunshinesaz86 · 02/10/2017 10:46

olivia I had a bleed with pain the day after my 12 week scan and had to wait 4 days before I could be seen at EPU all was ok with the baby. They think something 'came away' from something else as they could see bruising.

How much blood are u losing (sorry if you don't want to answer that) but I was bleeding only when going to the toilet but I think it's concerning if guys soaking through pads with clots etc.......however saying that sometimes woman experience that and still have healthy babies.

Can u get a private scan somewhere before Thursday?
Sorry your going through this. I hope you get some reassurance soon. X

I'm so sorry you are stuck in limbo land. Praying for a positive result for you 💐

Dottie39 · 02/10/2017 11:00

I bled throughout my pregnancy and baby was fine every time. I had period type aches too. They never found out why I kept bleeding.

Kannet · 02/10/2017 12:00

Please try to stay calm. I had several large bleeds in my pregnancy. They where terrifying but thank goodness all ended well. Hopefully you can get a scan today and you will what’s happening.

filou87 · 02/10/2017 12:37

I'm so sorry this is happening to you and I really hope your baby is okay.

Could you go to the private baby scan clinic in Truro? I am in Cornwall too ( also with a husband working offshore, oddly enough)

Hoping you get some good news OP Flowers

filou87 · 02/10/2017 12:43

Treliske offer private reassurance scans too for around £30 but I don't know how much notice they need. If you call the main hospital switchboard they can direct your call. Xx

OliviaFullman · 02/10/2017 12:54

Oh thank you to all of you lovely people for taking the time to reply to me.

My mum has advised me NOT to get out of bed and go traipsing down to the doctors if I am in pain and bleeding. She said that if I AM miscarrying then I will know when it happens but that if I'm not then I need to stay still with my feet elevated.

@Sunshinesaz86 I am not bleeding profusely, it's only when I go to the toilet but when I go there will be a few drops of brown/red blood in the pan plus more on the tissue.

It's the pain that is the worst, like intense period pains.

@Kannet Did you have pains with your large bleeds?

@filou87 Thank you for that info I will call the hospital now and see if I can get in easier than Wednesday. Does your partner work for Fugro/Seacore?

Thank you all of you it's really helping talking to you xxx

4thtime · 02/10/2017 13:04

OliviaFullman · 02/10/2017 13:06

PollytheDoily · 02/10/2017 13:10

Flowers hoping everything turns out fine OP

chainedtothedesk · 02/10/2017 13:13

Is your midwife going to call the hospital for a scan? She may be able to get you squeezed in somehow.
You shouldn't have to wait until Wednesday.
Hope everything is ok for you OP x

filou87 · 02/10/2017 13:16

You're welcome. I really hope you can get an earlier scan. I can't believe how long they expect you to wait.

My husband works off Shetland for BP, he does a 2 wk rotation plus travelling time. If you'd ever like to chat feel free to message me.

Wishing you all the best.
