I wish we had it cracked. Layla is 12 days old now and we've had one good night in that time. She just will not go down most nights. I know I'm expecting way too much from her but I'm just so completely exhausted I don't know what to do. Feeling really down.

lydiangel83 · 22/11/2017 08:26

@NC1990 at 3 wks old I’d say Liliana is crying 80% of the time - also really getting to me :-/

DarcyParty · 22/11/2017 08:57

@namechange1990 @lydiangel83 Sophie just wanted to be held constantly, night and day. It didn't help that while I was in hospital I changed my mind about breastfeeding, but she still wanted to be on the boob. As soon as we put her in the moses basket she screamed.
I know mumsnet is not a fan of tough love, but the midwife took one look and said if shes been fed, clean and warm, then just leave her in the basket. She screamed for about 2 mins after we left her and then just...stopped. She still gets cuddles after a feed and a change, and life is so much better ( I'm still in bed right now)

I hope it gets better for you, we had one bad night and we were at the end of our rope x

lydiangel83 · 22/11/2017 09:18

@DarcyParty it’s hard to listen to the crying but I do agree that if you know they are warm dry and fed then ok to let them cry it out. My issue is being confident that she has fed enough :-/

DarcyParty · 22/11/2017 09:26

@lydiangel83 are you breastfeeding? That must be hard to judge :( Maybe your midwife will be able to show you how to tell?

The crying is hard, but sleep deprivation is wicked torture.

TheLionQueen1 · 22/11/2017 10:12

J is almost 7 weeks old now and he is just starting to sleep mostly through the night and only because I put him up before me now! They say to let them cry it out for 5 mins, but he will never self soothe, still leave him for 5 in the hope he will eventually!

TheLionQueen1 · 22/11/2017 10:16

@lydiangel83 try not to worry about if she's feeding enough, I saw the Health visitor every 2 weeks and they weighed and they will know instantly if she isn't, maybe call them and book in to her weighed if you're concerned? Don't know if that's how it works in your area? It does get easier I promise, I've have 6 weeks of very little sleep but am getting there now! Can you express some and get your partner to do one of the night feeds? X

Jessiecat27 · 22/11/2017 11:57

I can't remember but did anyone else have back to back labour? Or labour that started with bad back pain? No tightenings in my stomach at all but I'm in agony with my back, I thought he was the right way round as well Sad

TheLionQueen1 · 22/11/2017 12:17

@Jessiecat27 my contractions felt like they were all in my back like I get with period pain and baby was around the right way so doesn't mean yours isn't don't worry!

Jessiecat27 · 22/11/2017 12:37

TheLionQueen1 that's good to know! Was meant to have workmen in today to fix something, think I may have to cancel that! Haha

ew1990 · 22/11/2017 12:38

@Jessiecat27 when I was in labour it was all in my stomach and then she turned back to back and the pain in my back was horrendous, midwife had me get off the bed and walk around and she turned back and my body started pushing. (It was so hard to stand and walk when you have like 5 hours sleep in 48 hours and then been in labour, I was hanging off my DPs neck he had to hold me up 🙈)

Jessiecat27 · 22/11/2017 12:42

I've had no sleep at all! Had a bad cough which seems to have pretty much disappeared this morning Hmm so I was up all night with that and then the back pain started! Haha Ew1990 mine won't wake up so I'm just wandering around when I can move not really knowing what to do! 🙈

ew1990 · 22/11/2017 12:51

I don't really have any advice because I was induced with the hormone drip so I was already at the hospital when mine started. Have you had a bath? That's what I kept asking for when I was in labour to help with the pains lol

Jessiecat27 · 22/11/2017 12:58

Ew1990 just had a shower because I was scared if i sat in the bath I wouldn't be able to get back out! Haha, oh is awake now so at least he can help me

ew1990 · 22/11/2017 14:02

Get him to massage your back. And good luck! Keep us updated x

Jessiecat27 · 22/11/2017 14:09

Ew1990 will do!

NC1990 · 22/11/2017 14:25

@lydiangel83 it really is hard isn't it! Layla's not much of a crier, she just takes a long time to settle in her own bed and sometimes just decides not to. She also cluster feeds in the early hours which is relentless. Hoping this doesn't last too long 😢

Got friends visiting tonight and honestly I just can't be bothered being social 😭

Jessiecat27 · 22/11/2017 19:58

Well I'm getting horrendous back pain less than every 5 minutes, not much around the front though, waters still haven't gone. Rang just to see what they said and they've told me to stay put unless I start getting tighteningsome around the front too, not everyone does though? Can't find a position I'm comfortable in and I've got no chance of getting in the bath, sitting is even more uncomfortable Sad

ValentineFizz · 22/11/2017 20:18

@Jessiecat you have my sympathies, this was like the pains l had and my LO was back to back but turned himself during delivery - l barely had any pains to the front.

The only thing that helped me was a warm bath, nothing else touched the pain for me so it might still be worth trying?

TheLionQueen1 · 22/11/2017 21:55

How are you doing @Jessiecat27 ?

mrsjkerry · 25/11/2017 08:26

Been off here totally for a while. I am actually still in hospital as baby got very sick after delivery. Home today though! Thank God. I would say, if your waters go accept the induction. The prolonged rupture of my waters meant baby caught an infection.

@NC1990 my baba is also a cluster feeder at night. It's so annoying she sleeps all day in four or five hour segments and then is up all night long! Desperate to break the cycle.

@Jessiecat27 any news? I had back labour and never had any pain around the front. My contractions were also never regular. I understand that there is a mould, or formula midwives need to follow but had I not kept demanding to be taken in I'd still be in labour now!

Have been thinking about you @mrsjkerry. Glad you're going home today. The exact same thing happened to my friend's little boy. Prolonged rupture caused an infection. It was the hospital's fault, as they just weren't listening to her. The hospital admitted liability. He's now a very happy, healthy 3 month old though.

Enjoy being at home and look after yourselves. Xx

Squigglefish · 25/11/2017 15:18

@mrsjkerry congratulations! Was thinking about you. I also had PROM and baby had a fever when she was born. Luckily it didn't amount to anything.

@Jessiecat27 hope your ok too.....

Sending love x

beckythomas · 25/11/2017 18:16

Glad to see many posts in here. I am giving birth in just 4 weeks time. I am anxious about it. Looking to hear about your experiences and support.

Jessiecat27 · 27/11/2017 11:07

Hi ladies! Sorry for the slow update but baby Phoenix arrived on Thursday! They didn't want me to go in as I was only having contractions in my back, he was back to back and ended up having an episiotomy because he got stuck! We only came home yesterday because we were both on antibiotics for suspected sepsis but we're okay now! I got no support in the hospital so we still don't really know what we're doing but apparently a midwife is meant to be coming round today so hopefully we can get some advice!
