Waters broken?! With lots of air? Gross Sorry!

Having a very excitable panic as I don't know what's happening. I'm 40+8, first baby. Haven't had any real signs of labour til this. Had achy back pain and a few stabby stomach pains today. Have also had lots of clear watery discharge recently.

So I'm laid in bed just now on my side. Suddenly feel trickling wetness from my vagina. Go to bathroom and sit on toilet, small amount of liquid leaks out and into toilet, smells awful, kind of like semen. Confused Then realise I also need to wee so do that. It's possible more liquid came out while weeing but no idea! Then, TMI sorry, unsure as to why, a load of air comes out from my vagina in a loud fart noise. How delightful.

That was about ten minutes ago. Nothing since.

What happened!?

Sounds like your waters are starting to go. Your hind waters may not have yet. Give the delivery suit a ring and see what they suggest.

abisothergran · 10/08/2017 00:14

Yes sounds as though waters have broken.Phone the maternity unit you are booked with -you need to go in.

bluebell34567 · 10/08/2017 00:17

I think you are ready for birth.

RedPandaMama · 10/08/2017 00:18

Oh god really!? I was prepared for hours of contractions and pain and having long baths to ease it. Yet I'm not in any pain at all Confused. Thank you, I'll call and see what they suggest.

Just stick a rolled up bath towel between your legs for the journey to hospital. Good luck.

mummymattersx · 10/08/2017 00:22

I'd be getting ready to leave for hospital :) mine leaked like this with DS1 and then pop they broke in the kitchen and I had him an hour later :) good luck ! I'm 38+5 and can't wait now x

Ceebs85 · 10/08/2017 00:22

Argh exciting! I heard this week that the fluid smells like semen (I'm due on Saturday)

Sounds like this is it! Keep a pad on to monitor the colour of the waters and ring in for advice. If you're not in pain they'll tell you to stay at home but will likely advise on what to do next!

Any news?

RedPandaMama · 10/08/2017 07:06

Decided to try and get some sleep as was having back pain and stomach cramps and thought, 'well if I'm going into labour I don't want to be exhausted'. Had about 3 hours sleep and woke up, walked around and had some cereal, but nothing happening today Sad. Might give it to lunch time then ring and say I think my waters broke at least partially last night and see what they say x

I wouldn't leave it so long to call, especially since you're overdue x

mysecret321 · 10/08/2017 08:20

I was told by my MW that I should call the labour ward as soon as my waters break as they'll need to assess me and if nothing happens in 24hr then induce me due to risk of infection.

chowmeinchick · 10/08/2017 08:23

My waters broke and when I rang the hospital they said I had to come in within 4 hours to get checked over.

I was allowed to go home for a few hours once I'd been in but I wouldn't leave it so long to call, especially as you're overdue.

I got induced in the end, but make sure they know. They induce you after 24 hours because of infection.

flumpybear · 10/08/2017 08:24

Ring them now for advice .... go on ... good luck! Smile

BBQsAreSooooOverrated · 10/08/2017 08:25

Definitely give them a call. They'll prob want to asseess you. Like above, if waters have gone they like baby to come or induce within a certain time to avoid infection. Good luck.

abigailgabble · 10/08/2017 08:26

please ring them now. especially if the waters smelt bad. really.

abigailgabble · 10/08/2017 08:28

also when your waters break they don't necessarily come gushing out. the baby's head is like a cork was how they explained it. but please call them don't wait.
