Waters broken?! With lots of air? Gross Sorry!

Having a very excitable panic as I don't know what's happening. I'm 40+8, first baby. Haven't had any real signs of labour til this. Had achy back pain and a few stabby stomach pains today. Have also had lots of clear watery discharge recently.

So I'm laid in bed just now on my side. Suddenly feel trickling wetness from my vagina. Go to bathroom and sit on toilet, small amount of liquid leaks out and into toilet, smells awful, kind of like semen. Confused Then realise I also need to wee so do that. It's possible more liquid came out while weeing but no idea! Then, TMI sorry, unsure as to why, a load of air comes out from my vagina in a loud fart noise. How delightful.

That was about ten minutes ago. Nothing since.

What happened!?

Yes please call and tell them your waters have started going. They might want to see you to confirm, or might leave you 24 hours or so and see what happens. Iirc there's an infection risk once waters start going? So they may need to advise on that.

mypoornips · 10/08/2017 11:33

Definitely call the labour ward. With my first labour took days to start and we ended up with infection.

YorkieDorkie · 10/08/2017 12:47

Yes please call, I ended up with chorioamnionitis and remained in hospital an extra 5 days (DD and name on IV antibiotics). I wouldn't repeat!

BadlyParkedRangeRover · 10/08/2017 12:49

Amniotic fluid should not smell bad or have gas in it. Call now

GladAllOver · 10/08/2017 12:52

The gas could come from infection. Don't delay. Good luck!

ScarletBegonia1234 · 10/08/2017 12:54

As previous posters said you need to inform them of your waters breaking so please call them

mummymattersx · 10/08/2017 13:15

I said before when mine leaked I was two days early and they booked me in for induction the following day but he came that evening :) they say 24 hours is the longest xx and your over due anyway.
Best of look xxxx

Lemondrop99 · 10/08/2017 13:31

Hopefully the lack of response means the OP is in labour!

Pippanippa · 10/08/2017 13:34

Please do go to your labour ward. This happened with my DD and as others have said once your waters break there is a risk of infection after a certain time so they may induce at that point / give antibiotics. They will also probably just want to assess/monitor baby. I was told to come straight to hospital & that it didn't matter if I was having contractions or not. Hope all goes well Smile

MrsCK · 10/08/2017 13:36

Good luck!!

Imbeingunreasonable · 10/08/2017 13:38

Good luck op

BrawneLamia · 10/08/2017 13:41

Both my labours started with my waters breaking. Do your research - you don't have to be induced after 24 hours, if you don't want to. Good luck

MrsGB2225 · 10/08/2017 13:43

I hope you are in the hospital and all is well. Good luck!

Jackiebrambles · 10/08/2017 13:43

Please come back and update us! Hope all is ok.

calimommy · 10/08/2017 20:01

If your waters break you go directly to hospital, if that's where your delivering. You don't wait. There is a window of 24 hrs before the concern of infection. You only labour at home if your contracting and membranes are not broken. I hope your in hospital now.

RedPandaMama · 10/08/2017 20:08

Hi everyone thanks for the replies! Sorry, we went into hospital and it took a long time to do all the checks. Things are moving along but they've sent me home as we only live 10 minutes away - the baby isn't looking like she's going to arrive and they don't think there's a risk of infection.

Thanks for all the advice, sadly it's not quite time yet!

That's good news that there is no risk of infection. I hope things happen soon for you though.

BeTheHokeyMan · 10/08/2017 20:16

Glad to hear you are OK op fingers crossed that it won't be long before baby makes an appearance Flowers

parrotseatemall · 11/08/2017 00:55

That's a positive update! Exciting to know you'll have a babe in arms within a day or so. I hope it all goes well.

MrsGB2225 · 11/08/2017 17:11

Hey OP how are you getting on?

RedPandaMama · 11/08/2017 17:35

@MrsGB2225 definitely in labour today! Up to about every six minutes having contractions since 3am & lost my plug. Hopefully they'll speed up then I can go into the hospital!
