I'm 13 weeks and just feel sick & tired all the time 🤢 It's so draining!

My hair is dull & falling out, my skin is dry & people keep telling me how pale I look (thanks!) and I just want to sleep all the time Blush

I'm trying really hard not to moan, we've been trying for 6 years, This was a last ditch ivf which we didn't expect to work so I am really happy, I'm just hating the physical experience - my mate told me yesterday to man up, she said I'm supposed to be enjoying it (also thanks Hmm ) but I'm really not...

To top it off last night I had a bad dream where I had the baby and it hated me 🙈

I'm trying to tell myself it means the hormones are high and keeping the baby fit, healthy & growing (at 12.2 day scan the baby measured 12.5 so all is well and slightly ahead if anything)

Anyway, when do I get this pregnant glow I've heard so much about?

When the kid's about five and you've had a restful day, a square meal and a full night's sleep.

Hang in there!

Lol king! Well into the second trimester for me...until about 36 weeks when I started looking like an inflated oompah lumpah.

JudyBlumeForever · 18/07/2017 10:49

Sadly I never has a pregnancy glow except for a slight green sheen due to nausea however, I looked so utterly crap for 9 months that once the baby was born and I returned to looking like my normal self everyone kept complementing me on how healthy I looked ( I think they just got used to my awful looks during pregnancy so when I reverted to normal I looked amazing in comparison)

Popskipiekin · 18/07/2017 10:51

I hated people telling me: "oh just you wait till the second trimester, you'll have so much energy!" Um no I bloody didn't. Although I didn't feel so sick so that was nice. Hope that goes away for you soon.

Absolutely sleep as much as you like/need, it's important.

Baby won't hate you, s/he will adore you. I remember feeling so incompetent early on (still do 3 years in, but particularly so in the first few days/weeks) and felt like our baby had been landed with such useless parents. A friend said "you're the best mum he's ever known" which was true enough! And made me feel slightly better. You'll be grand. Good luck!

TinklyLittleLaugh · 18/07/2017 10:52

I glowed, looked amazing. Felt like absolute shit though. The glow meant I got fuck all sympathy too.

GMtoBe · 18/07/2017 10:55

I'm now 27 weeks and haven't had that glow yet! Also not really enjoying the physical part of pregnancy but am so excited to meet my baby that I know it will be all worth it!

From what other people have told me, some people just never get 'the glow'.

Anatidae · 18/07/2017 10:58

I think when they're about twenty?

Glowing is a myth. I had HG and was sick constantly for nine months. I was pale, awful looking, and sick. I also had industrial strength heartburn.

Had fabulous hair for nine months, followed by serious hair loss for 18 months pp. he didn't sleep more than an hour until he was 18m either. That was fun.

Sorry.

Dede124 · 18/07/2017 10:59

28 weeks and still waiting for that glowing part iv heard about but hang on in there the first 14 weeks we're horrible for me I felt awful and cried everyday then started to feel normal again after about 16 weeks up until this last week where iv hit the third trimester and iv got downhill again! Hope you feel better soon Flowers

chelle85 · 18/07/2017 10:59

The glow is a lie perpetuated to keep the human race alive. If you are lucky you will feel a bit better throughout your second trimester but I never got the burst of energy promised.

I'm 36 weeks now and the only glow I have is an adorable combination of sweat and blusher

thefutureisfemale · 18/07/2017 11:01

Hi congratulations!

Firstly, don't feel like you are ungrateful because you don't like being pregnant. You're not. Being pregnant isn't fun! I'm 30 weeks and it's been shit even without any serious medical issues.
If you're looking for the elusive pregnant glow tell me where you find it! I haven't!

And again, warmest congratulations x

SlB09 · 18/07/2017 11:06

I did start to look and feel 'normal' by around 18 weeks. Had a few 'your glowing' comments but I think its just because I didnt look like shit anymore!! I did have more energy and felt really well during this time though which was lovely after a tough time prior to this with HG. You will start to feel better than you do now Smile

EsmeWeatherwax · 18/07/2017 11:07

I didn't glow, I festered.

harleysmammy · 18/07/2017 11:08

My sons 11 weeks old and it's still not happened for me! Wink

shamoffour · 18/07/2017 11:16

Nope, no glowing for me either with any of my pregnancies. I hate every single minute of it (except the babies moving) but I loved the end result!
I'm a complete weirdo I know but I actually enjoyed the births because I knew the pregnancies would be over. In fact after is it ok? The next thing I said was thank god I'm not pregnant any more. Don't feel bad my 4dc were very much wanted and I'd had 3 mcs but pregnancy? You can keep it ta very much!

silkpyjamasallday · 18/07/2017 11:18

Congratulations!

I never got a 'glow' but I had HG and vomited multiple times a day for the entire 40 weeks and spent most of the pregnancy pretty grumpy because of it. People are always telling me how well I look now though 10 months on, I can't see it personally I have had rosacea since pregnancy and now have fetching blue eye bags which with a yellow skin tone is not a good look. But DD is absolutely beautiful so it's not all bad!

OhOurBilly · 18/07/2017 11:27

I was a glow-er, I looked wonderful, glossy thick hair, clear lovely skin, my eczema disappeared, I felt fine...and then I gave birth. And my hair started falling out in handfuls and my skin went to shit and all I looked shockingly like a bag of used spanners for a good long while Grin

Do your best to be kind to yourself, do what it takes to get yourself through it, treat yourself ad much as possible. Come on here and whine, you will always find yourself in good company! Just because you have a much wanted pregnancy doesn't mean you're not allowed to feel shit and moan about it! Congratulations though! Flowers

Spam88 · 18/07/2017 11:28

I'm 8 weeks post partum and have had a couple of people tell me I'm glowing now? But I think it's just all the oils because I don't get a chance to wash my face as often as I should 👍

TheLegendOfBeans · 18/07/2017 11:31

This is the only bloody "glow" I've had out of two pregnancies

www.boots.com/seventeen-instant-glow-skin-wow-tan-10166807

And I'm lucky in the respect I've had barely any sickness etc.

Am about to go into third trimester and appear to have bypassed the "so much energy" stage and am now feeling like a big fat dormouse.

ScarlettInSpace · 18/07/2017 11:38

Ah thanks everyone Smile you have all cheered me up!

I just seem to be surrounded by RL people who 'loved' being pregnant Confused

Also my default remedies for feeling down (wine) or feeling tired (coffee) are unavailable which probably isn't helping either..,

OP posts:
YogaPants · 18/07/2017 11:40

To all intents, I had a normal low-risk pregnancy. Here is how I remember it:

Week 4-14 fatigue, nausea, fear of miscarriage

Week 14-20 telling people, Christmas, first kicks Smile

Week 21-26 heart arrhythmia detected at 20 week scan, nerves, lots more scans before given all clear

Weeks 25-40 spd, pain while walking, hungry all the time

I think I only enjoyed about 6 weeks max of it.

BoredOnMatLeave · 18/07/2017 11:41

Everyone used to comment on my glow. It wasn't glow. It was sweat. I was fucking boiling.

TheLegendOfBeans · 18/07/2017 11:44

As an aside, if I get lucky enough to a) get pregnant again and b) time it right to avoid summer ill be interested to see if I get any "glow".

Having had two summer pregnancies I feel like I've done a lifetime of sweating and wringing out bras and would like next time to be a bit less - um - viscerally sweaty

DramaAlpaca · 18/07/2017 11:45

When they finally leave home Grin

Sorry! I felt really rough in the first trimester with DC1, but looked and felt amazing after about 18 weeks when I finally stopped throwing up. I was working with a woman who was due the same time as me and she never got the glow at all. I felt a bit guilty about feeling wonderful when she was having a rough time of it.

Sadly the glow didn't replicate itself at all in my two subsequent pregnancies, probably because I was so darned tired all the time.

Oysterbabe · 18/07/2017 12:35

I'm 18 weeks and although I don't feel sick anymore I look like I've been dead for about a week. This is at least 50% because my 18 month old hates sleep / me. If I'm glowing it's because it's 400 degrees and I may actually be on fire.
