14+3 weeks.

I've been getting heartbeat on a doppler easily since 9 weeks.

I've had a bad feeling the last few days, something I never got with my other kids. So I tried the doppler today and found nothing. I've been trying since 11am.

I've tried all the tricks in the right places, laying this way and that, pointing it down etc etc and there's absolutely nothing there.

I spoke to EPU but being Friday they can't see me until Monday morning.

It's going to be a long weekend.

Wish I never bought that bloody doppler. I never did with my other pregnancies.

Oh op Flowers

I'm sure baby is absolutely fine and has just moved. If you can get a private scan I would just to put your mind at ease is there anyone who could watch the dc?

As others have said please ditch the Doppler your mw will be more than happy to pop in and have a listen if you're in need of reassurance but 14 weeks is incredibly early to hear it. It is perfectly possible but a lot of mws won't listen before 16 weeks.

Placenta wouldn't be at your heart rate though but it sounds different to baby. It's very wooshy.

BoraThirch · 30/06/2017 20:20

My midwife tried to hear the heartbeat at 14 weeks and couldn't find it. Went to epu and another midwife tried for ages with no luck. Eventually a doctor scanned me and found a healthy baby no problem.

Heartbeats are really hard to find that early, even for highly trained and experienced staff with top equipment.

KeepFuckingGoing · 30/06/2017 20:22

My second pg I PROMISE I REALLY DID feel movement from 10wks. (Sorry. Drs didn't believe me). It stopped at 14wks and I pitched up at the hospital asking for a scan. They thought I was talking bs and made me wait all day but did scan me. My placenta had moved anteriorly and I then didn't feel movement until about 20wks when she was big enough to kick harder!

Maybe your placenta has moved?
Good luck x

Hi

I had exactly the same experience around the same time as you. Had never had a problem hearing the heartbeat and then one day it was gone.
Cue an incredibly stressful 24 hrs of panicking, threw the doppler in the bin, and then (in floods of tears) we decided to try it again.
Cleaned food from doppler and there was the heartbeat.
Babies are tiny at that age, they move around and face the wrong way all of the time.
Doppler went straight back in bin and we never used it again.
Try and keep breathing.
Chances are high that your baby is absolutely fine and you'll find that out on Monday.

TippyTinkleTrousers · 01/07/2017 08:22

Thank you Theweathergirl.

I'm highly regretting not taking that private appointment for today. I'm calling them bang on 9am to see if I can change my mind and nab that appointment.

How far along we're you WeatherGirl and did you find the HB in the end?

I've still found nothing this morning.

Does your maternity hospital have a triage unit attached? They're open 24/7 so might be worth a try. Flowers

I heard my babies heartbeat on a Doppler at 14 weeks, but I couldn't find it for a week or so after. They're really really small and can easily move and end up tucked away behind your pelvis or somewhere.

I completed it u detests d why you're worried but the chances are it's all fine

TheWeatherGirl1 · 01/07/2017 08:33

I was about 15 weeks, I'm now 41 weeks.
It gets easier, I promise.

BrutusMcDogface · 01/07/2017 08:34

Ah, what a worry! Hope all is ok, op. I only used a Doppler whilst pregnant with my third, because a friend had had a bad experience and bought one for reassurance. She admitted it just added to her anxiety, though.

TippyTinkleTrousers · 01/07/2017 08:47

Thank you. You have no idea how grateful I am to hear positive experiences!

softtissue I did call them and they said nothing until Monday (which I have) and only to come in if the pain is unbearable. There's nothing they can do if I miscarry.

I'm actually very convinced my dates are wrong. I think I'm only 13+4 going by my LMP.
When I had my 12 weeks can they said I was 13+1 which make 14+3 today. It also means I would have had sex on my period (I have sort cycles) which we didn't.

If I am only 13+4 and they were wrong that would explain lack of movements, lack of bump (I was showing by 14 weeks with my last 2) and lack of being able to find HB.

I'm tapping my foot until 9am when I can call the private scan place. I hope I haven't screwed that option up. Why didn't I just book the bloody appointment.
I'm kicking myself!

When I was 21 weeks with ds1 I went in for reduced movements. Two separate midwives couldn't find a heartbeat with a Doppler and told me they were really sorry but I'd lost him. About half an hour later a consultant came along with a mobile scanning device and found my little boy tucked away, perfectly healthy. They all said how notoriously unreliable Dopplers are.

TippyTinkleTrousers · 01/07/2017 08:52

Thank you. Thank you so much for your positive input.

Flowers I hope you can get your scan today. I'm confident you'll see baby bouncing about in there.

dont worry about showing. My Sil has 8dc and with 2 of them has had no bump at all all the way through. Both those babies were 10lbs and very healthy just tucked right in her back and not much water with those pregnancies. Each pregnancy is different please don't worry about things not being the same

Good luck op. When i was pg with my twins, i had a doppler and could never reliably find twin 1. Turns out he was anterior placenta and was right down in my pelvis. To begin with i could find him just fine then he must have moved.

GlitteryFluff · 01/07/2017 09:29

Hope you managed to get that appointment for today Flowers

TippyTinkleTrousers · 01/07/2017 09:32

Thanks.

No one is answering the poxy phone!! How frustrating!

Oh, I feel for you - of course you will be worried until you get reassurance.

I hope all will be well. Hopefully you got the appointment for today sorted out. I have all fingers crossed for you Thanks

Dopplers should not be available to buy as readily as they are IMO - they cause untold misery and anxiety.

Ok so I bought a Doppler too as I thought it would give me peace of mind after a mc and mmc. It definitely helped me in the long run up to the 12 week scan however I still wish I'd never bought it and it's well and truly packed away now.

A few things for reassurance:

  1. Even up until 16 weeks ish I couldn't always find the baby's heartbeat. Some days I'd pick it up straight away and others I could be there for up to 30 minutes trying to find it, sometimes with success and other times no luck at all.
  1. I have had the "bad feeling" a lot this pregnancy and been convinced constantly that something was wrong. However so far, touch wood, everything seems fine (24 weeks now).

In the end I packed the Doppler away as it was causing me extreme anxiety as I couldn't always find a heartbeat. The final straw came when I heard the baby's heartbeat do something very frightening which scared me to death, so after that it was gone and I'll never use it again. Good luck with your little one.

TippyTinkleTrousers · 01/07/2017 10:14

Scan booked at 12.30.

I can't tell if it was wishful thinking or genuine but I felt what could have been movement whilst I was on the phone.

But perhaps it was wind.

I guess we'll know either way in a couple of hours.

Thanks for your support. I will come back and update soon.

The woman on the phone says they get phone calls about this all the time.
