I'm 4w5d and wondered if anyone else fancied joining me on the amazing journey to come?
First, second, third or fourth (or more!!) timers welcome!

This will be #1 after a long 18 months of miscarriages, infertility and heartache but i'm feeling super positive about this one and ready to enjoy the next few months!

I had an early appointment with the midwife at 5 weeks son I was in the system and that generated my booking appointment and my scan. Iv never had the nuchal test with the boys but I'm tempted to get it done this time since I'm a little older. Not sure yet. Iv just sent hubby shopping and on the list is, gherkins, pickled onions, beetroot and chutney. Hmmmm is there a pattern here 😂😂😂

Sah2241 · 25/07/2017 13:28

I'm tempted to go private to get things moving a bit quicker. I'll see what happens in the next week and if there is still no progress I'll try and get a private scan at least.

CL1982 · 25/07/2017 13:38

I am clueless-I actually assumed everyone got the nuchal scan?!

@CL1982 I'm not sure. I know we have always had the choice to have it or not and we have Always opted out as I wouldn't have the amniocentesis.

CL1982 · 25/07/2017 14:04

I will admit unless they really thought we should have it we wouldn't have the amniocentesis either. However DH is quite keen we have all the other tests done. I guess that's fair and is a totally personal choice :) It's hard to know what you should and shouldn't do though as even those tests aren't conclusive are they?

What other tests are you having done? The Down syndrome ratios that you get back aren't totally accurate. You can have a really high chance of downs and not have it and a really low chance and have it. I think we will get it this time but i still would not get the amnio done.

SS81C · 25/07/2017 14:15

It's an optional test....all screening tests are optional actually so you don't have to have any if you didn't want to.

There are other options you can consider if someone did have a high chance at nuchal....theres a blood test called Harmony or NIFTY or a few other things that analyse the babies DNA which is found in the mother's blood and can give a much more accurate indication (I actually don't think it's diagnostic but 99% accurate) quite pricy though
That's my fascinating fact for the day haha.

I got off my bum and went for hike with some other mama's today and I feel so much better for the fresh air and exercise....i have definitely been wallowing recently.

Can't wait for my booking apt tomorrow!

CL1982 · 25/07/2017 14:31

I believe you can get a blood test done. I agree they aren't accurate at all. And i feel similarly as you on the amnio. Having got this far i am not even willing to risk a 1/100 chance of miscarrying.....

I'm looking forwardto the 16 wk appointment so I can hear the baby's heart beat, I'm 13wks now and still sooo tired 😴 x

mummyGof2boys · 25/07/2017 16:39

Iv just eaten a whole jar of gherkins 😱😱

Lauralou031986 · 25/07/2017 17:07

I had a McDonald's today, disappointed that you only get 1 pickle on them lol

SS81C · 25/07/2017 18:04

Oh the thought of pickles makes me gag. My OH made a salad with capers and olives in this week and I couldn't stand the smell of it let alone eat it....

Bluebell93 · 25/07/2017 20:27

The book I'm reading (Expecting Better by Emily Oster) says the amino risks are greatly exaggerated and are more like 1/800, but ultimately it's your decision. There's so many 'facts' spoken about in pregnancy without any real evidence - I really recommend the book as it puts everything into perspective and means you can actually make a calculated decision.

Lauralou031986 · 26/07/2017 08:23

@Bluebell93 iv been reading that book aswell, it's quite interesting, my DS has a party to go to this afternoon, but iv been feeling so tired don't no if we're going or not, feel really bad if I don't take him tho

CL1982 · 26/07/2017 08:37

Guys I woke up to some spotting. Very scary. Having my scan tomorrow.

Keeping wondering if it's when my period would have normal been if it's my body going a bit wink. No pain or anything so far. Argh.

mummyGof2boys · 26/07/2017 08:40

I know I panicked when I was spotting last week but if it's just spotting and doesn't soak through a pad and isn't accompanied by any pain and especially pain on one side then it's normal. (So the midwife told me). Apparently it's so so common xx

Tweetypie19 · 26/07/2017 08:57

Congratulations to you all. Really exciting times. I'm almost 5 weeks pregnant with my 5th at 42. I had a mc in January which went horribly wrong so I'm a little nervous this time. My older three dc are 20, 16 and 15. My youngest is just 19 months so this baby is planned for 19 months buddy. I'm really looking forward to my 12 week scan so we can check all is ok. I'm just absolutely shattered. Xx

KerryLeanne84 · 26/07/2017 09:07

So sorry Claire, that must be scary. As others say, lots of women experience spotting and go on to have healthy babies. At least your scan is tomorrow so you can find out what's happening, but do call your midwife today if you're worried xxx

CL1982 · 26/07/2017 09:32

I will do-thanks all. Took the day off work and just chilling today.... Confused

@CL1982 hope everything goes ok tomorrow, is it your 12wk scan?

CL1982 · 26/07/2017 09:58

No it'll be my 9 week scan. I'm still in the danger zone unfortunately...

Hi Cl1982,
Fingers and toes crossed for you. I've had spotting with my other four pregnancies around the time my period was due, until after 12 weeks. It is really worrying. At least you have your a an tomorrow which should put your mind at ease. You're doing the right thing by taking it easy. Don't stress by yourself, the midwives are always there. A mc sign for me was heavy bleeding. I just knew the difference whereas with my other sprogs it was lighter and just for 2-3 days xx best of luck xxxx

Sah2241 · 26/07/2017 11:59

@CL1982 hope all is good at the scan tomorrow, will keep fingers crossed. I'm sure it is all normal.

babyjonesie2017 · 26/07/2017 12:40

First of all, HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to everyone Flowers
Hi, we found out we are pregnant Sunday just gone. Really really excited. This will be baby number 4. Only worry we face, at the moment, is I will need to have a 4th c-section.... slightly scared but only because partner and family members are scared. It didn't occur to me initially
