hiya goingfor3!!! good to see you here!
i told my dd straight away cos she wasn't old enough to understand but waited till after 12 wk scan to tell ds!

honeyapple · 03/05/2007 18:10

Hiya- Yes we waited till after 12 wk scan- then showed the little picture to DC and DP said- "do you know what this is?" DS realised it was a baby straight away! They just stared at me and couldnt stop grinning. Was lovely.

You realise we three are all cookingno.3 !!

BabyMadwithBump · 03/05/2007 19:22

I'M cooking number 3 too! congrats goingfor3 good luck very pleased for you! We didn't tell DC's about the "baby" they told US, I was getting dressed one morning and DS#2 saw me and said "there must be a baby in there your belly sooooo big" thanks son, I phone DH told him he just, laughed MEN, and that night we shown them the scan picture's, I was about 16 weeks I think at the time, they knew what it was straight away bless and they were so pleased for us as we had been TTC for 18 months and we had be open with them from day one! Still enjoying being PG feel abit tired today but had nose bleeds all night and day, I fell asleep on the settee not long ago only for 10 min woke up as one side of my face was wet and it was blood I had I nose bleed while asleep but I'm fine, feeling fine, going for a nice long hot (baby friendlily hot bath) bath when boys are in bed, so chat later ladies!

Chooster hope your MW app went well?
Glad your MW app went well firststar, when has your next app been booked for?

NattyThomasandEllen · 03/05/2007 20:51

hullo girlys!
i am now a shocking 36+3..
nice to see everything is going ok for others on the ttc thread.
speak soon, next post will prob be baby arrival!

Chooster · 03/05/2007 21:14

Congratulations goingfor3 - its great to see some new recruits over here. Hope some more ttc ladies make it over soon.

Thats a lot of nose bleeds babymad - I get a few but not when I'm asleep! That must be quite unnerving, but at least the wetness would wake you up. By the way babymad, you'd be very proud of cos I bought a new buggy today! Well a kind of pram buggy combo. I went to Mamas and papas first and the got quite a good one in a half price sale. It did look fab but couldn't get a buggy board on the back of it and I just know DS is going to want to hang onto the buggy when DS2 is here. So I went for the one I've had my eye on for a while, the i-candy cherry. Am surprisingly excited - is that wierd?

Very glad your mid-wife appt went well Firsty - yes you're right our appointments so tend to co-incide! Mine was fine, for the first time this pregnancy DH decided to come along - and it was the one time there was a male student in with the trained mid-wife. He was pretty tasty as well . DH asked when we got out if all my mid-wives appt's were like that! Anyway, the most important bit is that everything is fine and seems normal. I'm measuring a week ahead of where I am but she said thats nothing to be worried about. We also talked about the fact that I have Group B Strep so I'll be on IV anti-biotics this time round, but at least I can still be mobile (hopefully!

Greedy - very glad your web-site lady contacted you - tell her to sort the spelling out on her web-site

Mrsmc - your poor friend going in 10 wks early. It probably helps knowing its the for the best, but thats like me having this baby next week. I just wouldn't feel ready for it, if you know what I mean. Really really good luck to her. How are your symptoms?

Chooster · 03/05/2007 21:19

Wow Natty - 36 wks!!! I remember you getting your BFP on the TTC threads - time flies by doesn't it!

Good luck with the birth, am guessing from your name that you know its a girl

By the way, I know, before I comment on other people's spelling I should look at my own! My last post was full of rubbish!

BabyMadwithBump · 03/05/2007 23:03

NattyThomasandEllen OMG over 36 weeks so pleased, Good luck with the birth!

Chooster Pushchairs that i-candy looks a good one just had a look on the web, it was "pregnancy" mag best buy as well, as for the nose bleeds I'll ask MW when I see her about what's bad and what's normal. Spellings I'm really bad and I try a run it though a spell checker but that sometimes makes it worse as it comes up with A word, you change it, only later you find out it wasn't the word you were looking for something completely different IYSWIM, but hay life's to short!

Morning girls - hope you're all OK?

Nice to "see" you Natty and Goingfor3 (congrats too!)!

Did anyone see the Panorama programme last night? How scary and sad was that...??? One midwife to 24 patients - how can they even operate like that??!

I talked myself out of having a doula but after seeing that, I've completely changed my mind...

honeyapple · 04/05/2007 08:58

Morning. Yes that programme was pretty awful. I am even more sure I want a home birth! It really made me cry... and I was wondering what the hell I was watching it for.

Actually my experience with having DD at UCL was not completely dissimilar. When I arrived I was left for ages in the waiting room having contractions... then I was told to go to a ward which was for monitoring- not really women in labour- mostly women who were having problems in pg. Anyway I had to go there because there were no beds in the labour ward. Eventually I could go back to the labour ward and they kicked somebody out of a room for me... I dont think their labour was progressing as quickly- felt a bit bad as she ended up in the corridor on a chair. Then I was moved again as that room wasnt a birthing room... bit of a palava (sp??)... all the MW were very nice though. But it will be SO nice to just be in my own home, and not be moved from room to room! (Unless I want to!...bathroom/kitchen/bedroom...)

This morning I was lying on my back and my bump was REALLY hard... felt like I had a potato in my tummy! Wondered if it was head or back... def been feeling proper movements now as well- so all reassuring.

Hope everyone else is well.

Nattythomasandellen- 36 wks!! Are you walking like John Wayne yet?

KitKat30 · 04/05/2007 09:06

I know what you mean...my DH said 'are you sure you want to watch this?'. Kind of wish I hadn't now... Sorry to hear you had a bad experience honey - you dont ever imagine that you'll have to labour in a bloody corridor! Shocking really.

honeyapple · 04/05/2007 09:11

Kitkat- I didnt actually have a bad experience- i was pretty aware that the unit was overstretched, so I just accepted what I had to do and got on with it... but it certainly wasnt ideal. I think the most shocking thing was the state of the toilets... really gross... blood everywhere in the bathroom... I had a shower after I had DD but it was very grim.

KitKat30 · 04/05/2007 09:27

oh my god - definitely taking a bottle of Flash spray in my hospital bag!!

Very good idea on the flip flops firstar. The bathrooms are a bit minging.

I knew the programme was on but I just throught I wouldn't watch it. Although probably accurate, it reflects the bad aspects of birth and many can be very good experiences (all thanks to the hardworking mid-wives). I was lucky with DS's birth in that I had a student mid-wife assigned to me so she was with me the full time. Also I was induced so was bed-bound and hooked up to various things so I doubt they could really have left me for long anyway (not that I would recommend an induction). Although there are undoubtedly some exceptions, I still think that if you really need them, i.e there are issues / problems then you'll get the help you need. DS was born blue and not breathing and the room filled up in seconds once they raised the alarm. I reckon being a mid-wife must be a really stressful job, and they are not even well-paid

Hopefully your anti-bio's will done the same as mine Firsty - IV drip, but only administered every 4 hours. So I'll have the 'thingy' in the back of my hand and then they'll just top me up every now and again. It wont stop me moving which is good The Group B strep is nothing really major. The anti-biotics are just a precaution really as I was tested positive for it.

goingfor3 · 04/05/2007 11:15

The Panorama programme made me cry because one of my friends did one of the sound bites at the start. She has since moved to NZ and seeing her with my pregnancy hormones has made me miss her so much

Its a good tip to pass on though Firstar! I was so unprepared last time, we didn't even have cash with us. We had a fairly urgent ride to the hospital at 4am we so both forgot wallet / purse. We had to borrow money from the mid-wives!!! So, another little tip would be to put £20 in your hospital bag.

Goingfor3 - I hope your friends experience wasn't too bad - sorry to hear that you are really missing her.

Chooster · 04/05/2007 13:14

mind you if the car park charges are anything like those at the hospital in Edindurgh, maybe put in £60

I got it ready at about 37 wks but I think thats because I was bored and excited about all the small things I was putting in it - tiny nappies, babygrows etc. All very cute

As it was we didn't leave for the hospital until I was 40+5 and it was all such a rush as I'd woken up at 4am in a pool of blood. So the bag ended up staying in the car until after DS was born. DH did manage to get out to the car to get some CD's as there was a CD player in the labour room .

Bodkin · 04/05/2007 13:59

Hi everyone - nice to see some old faces and new ones on here! Hi Natty - I remember you from my lurking days on TTC! Not long now - let us know how you get on. Hi Goingfor3 - haven't "met" before but glad you have joined us on here.

I didn't see Panorama last night - definitely taking the ostrich approach (i.e. head in the sand!) I was one of the lucky ones who had a really good birth in hospital first time round. The main reason for HB this time is so DP can get a decent cuppa (he was not impressed with the vending machine )

Firsty - glad to hear about your "normal" status!!!

Chooster - oooh, shiny new pushchair Have you taken it for a test drive yet?!

Babymad - poor you with those pesky nosebleeds. Mine seem to have stopped for the time being.

Not felt much movement today, so am a bit concerned. Perhaps if I sat down for longer than 5 minutes I mgiht be able to concentrate on it a bit more though!

Greedy ? I agree, Firsty is like Ready totally see where you are coming from on the MC v pg front, I think it is equally hard for both and it was good of you to see your friend but equally, maybe it would do her good to think about other people and what?s going on ? I don?t mean that in a mean way or that she is selfish but it is easy to become inward looking and not see the good things in the world when you are down and the good things do make you feel so much better

Firsty ? So glad all went well at the MW Of course, you are right I could be more pro-active with my friends, maybe I can?t face it just now. Ready is ok, she?s just got through the disappointment of another AF but she?s on top, sparkly form again ready to try again. She was asking about you all actually

Honeyapple ? lots of good sex, not many well times babymaking sessions though! we?ll see!

Goingfor3 ? I?m working as hard as I can on coming to join you so you don?t get lonely when Honeyapple moves on!

Babymad ? hello sorry about the nose bleeds! Scary! Never had one (no surprise there with my sticky blood I guess!)

NattyandThomasandEllen how lovely to see you!!!!!! It?s been so long! (I?m not here by the way, just an interested bystander) what?s your EDD and how are you feeling? Is Ellen the chosen name? I like it

Chooster ? hey you so glad all went well at MW, DH will want to come to them all now to make sure you are focusing on the baby and not the student what is Group ??! Doesn?t sound nice I know what you mean about my friend, she?s being so brave. My BF is also getting V close. Scan today and being hooked up to a monitor all day to check baby due to her BP being so high ? reckon they might whip her in soon actually (she?s due 12/5). Symptoms are hopeful I think, you never really know but I am feeling positive (what harm can it do?) Have a lovely weekend practising with the new buggy ? saw a Mum in a shop the other day with a newborn, clearly her first, she was knocking everything off the shelves and banging into people with the buggy, that will be me! Can you take me out for buggy lessons?! By the way, I take flip flops with me to anywhere wet, can?t stand the idea of standing in foot foust ? yuck!! Make sure you have your mobile phone in your bag as I?ll be waiting for a text!

How are you KitKat? Is it too late for a doula? I still have the email address for the lady from MN who knows all about getting one (she is one).

Hello Bodders

Just had a lovely daydream ? maybe from Weds I can join you properly again????????.
