I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is great: 024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Thingy, it was so nice and cool in there! I just hung out by the freezers for ages...

As awful as my GPs have always been, getting signed off has never been a problem. Fingers crossed it wont be for you. I cant possibly imagine navigating public transport while feeling like this, in this heat.

Woke up feeling really sick, but determined. Going to try and get out into my garden, if only for a little bit. 17 days and counting....

Waves to all.

OnNaturesCourse · 19/06/2017 08:50

Good Luck Holly.

After two days nausea free, mainly... It hit like a tonne of bricks today.

Could be I've done too much yesterday, stripped the nursery, and the heat combined has just not agreed.

Anyone got hints for drain cleaners? I swear I can smell the ones in the bathroom even though I'm assured that there is no smell. Convinced its that which set it off this morning. 😵

Baby and body must know it's Monday and how suspicious it would be for me to take a sick day after being so productive over weekend and when it's so hot and summery.

That is reassuring Thingy.

Sorry for absence was my wee ones 2nd birthday yesterday he had a ball. We had a glorious day and I did BBQ felt hideous and super fat as none of my summer stuff fit thanks to bump so I walked about in a stretch primark tshirt and maternity leggings rocking the party look lol.

Hope everyone is coping I'm having a rough day but that's due to over doing it though

LucindaE · 19/06/2017 12:21

1984FS Welcome. Sorry you are suffering. There is lots of information on my introductory post. Invest in some kesostix; while later on, they show starvation as well, in the early stages, they are good for registering dehydration. Do you have a headache, blurry vision, scanty dark urine, dry skin or feel confused? They are all signs. Do go to the doctor for meds. There are many you can try. Emphasize how bad the sickness is.
Do you find flat full sugar coke, ice lollies, ice cubes, tinned fruit and its juice, Lucozade, Elderflower water, Dr Pepper, sips of chocolate milkshake (maybe soya), slices of lemon, jelly or nibbles of crisps any good? Others swear by cocoanut milk, cuppa soup and orange juice or orange squash.
I hope everyone is managing in this heat.

Mustang Lol about the party look, but I am so glad LO had a nice birthday.

@1984FS
Sorry you've found your way over to this thread. Are you uk based? I've not heard of that drug... is it a brand?
If it's not working you should go back to Doctor.
It's a bloody miserable existence! You will trial and error different foods and fluids that work / don't work for you!
Get some ketostix. Take a good pregnancy multivitamin with iron. I am not getting any iron from diet at the moment and have become a bit anaemic, so have switched from folic acid / vit d to pregnacare.

OnNaturesCourse · 19/06/2017 13:03

Welcome 1984, sorry you've had to join us in this thread but we are a lovely bunch!

Some things that help me are salt water, lying in bed awake for 20minutes before getting up, lots of water through a straw, keeping cool, dry cereal, oatcakes and fizzy juice (sips)

Xxx

weasledee · 19/06/2017 13:10

Hi 1984, it's good to join the thread as you feel you aren't the only one suffering in this way!
I dared to think I felt relatively ok this morning and had a shower, went dramatically downhill after that..... Confused

pippanippa · 19/06/2017 13:16

Welcome 1984, sorry to hear you're struggling, it's miserable. Happy birthday to your little on Mustang

After a surprisingly good weekend it's back to misery here, the hot weather is killing me, nausea is worse, I feel like I'm actually wilting and am struggling to do anything other than lie down as feel like I will collapse at any second. It's going to be hot all week here Sad.

Thingymaboob · 19/06/2017 13:38

@weasledee oh god, showers! They are now a trigger for me.

Oklahoma · 19/06/2017 14:32

Thanks for that thingy alsoways nice to have more reassurance

Thingymaboob · 19/06/2017 14:45

Spoke to some other clueless GP today who

  1. Advised ginger. Errrrr hellllllllooooooo! I have hyperemesis and am taking ondansetron.
  2. Sip water. Yeah, no shit.
  3. Not to up dose of ondansetron on bad days as its safety in pregnancy is questionable. I then blinded the GP with references and research. Anyone else feel like they're more of an expert in HG than the GPS?
1984FS · 19/06/2017 15:08

Hi Lucinda, Thank you for the message. I have had some awful headaches that leave me in tears and nothing much I can do about them as I'm allergic to paracetamol (I know it's an odd one), skin very dry but mainly I just think I must be dehydrated as some days I've not even managed a small glass of liquid. It's mainly the nausea causing the problems as I just can't bear to drink it - I'm being very forceful with myself today though and trying to drink water even though I now find it evil! I will definitely get some of the kesostix so that I can monitor myself.
Food wise I have found a handful of things (which do change) that I can sometimes get down and keep down. Mostly the same as your lists which I just find so bizarre but at least we can all relate.
I think I will call the doctor re. my meds and see if she can try something else.
Thank you Smile

1984FS · 19/06/2017 15:13

@thingymaboob Yes I am U.K. Based. The Phenergan is just an antihistamine I believe. I do think it helps keep the sickness at bay a little bit, but not the nausea! I had to stop taking my pregnacare as I think it made me a lot worse and gave me anxiety and bladder pain - again I will have to speak to my doctor about that. I'm just taking folic acid now but will look into adding some iron! Today I'm surviving on melon and some dried salty bean things from the health food shop which are staying down. Have just dizzied my way to the kitchen to put some OJ in the freezer too! Smile Thank you for your message & advice! X

1984FS · 19/06/2017 15:17

@OnNaturesCourse Thank you for some tips - I will try the salt water although it sounds a bit scary Smile

@weasledee Thank you.. and yes showers and baths are awful!!! I too was sick straight after my shower this morning, and then again when I tried to tie my messy wet hair into a manageable bun! How did liquid become so unbearable!? Confused

Thingymaboob · 19/06/2017 16:08

@1984FS
Oh love, please go back to your gp and force the NICE guidelines down their throat. In my experience, GPS are terrible at treating this. They're so scared about giving something to someone in pregnancy.
How many weeks are you?

1984FS · 19/06/2017 16:22

@Thingymaboob I'm 9 weeks Wednesday. Was only about 5 days into morning sickness when I saw my GP about it and was prescribed the phenergan. It's got a lot worse since then as my list of aversions has grown and grown! She is generally pretty good about stuff so I'm hoping she will be a help with this too!? Sounds like you are having a tough time getting GP support though which is just awful Angry

satsoooma · 19/06/2017 17:00

Hi everyone, it has been a while since I have posted. Partly because I have been feeling a bit better and partly becuase the thread was moving so fast that I kind of lost track!

I am now 16 weeks and feel better than I did in the first trimester. I am still taking loads of drugs and can't eat normal food though. Throwing up maybe every other day for the past few weeks. I feel like I have settled into a new normal. Not gotten any better or worse for about a month.

Holly, so glad to see you getting closer to the end date. I'm sure the newborn stage will be a doddle after HG :)

putputput I also found that swimming outdoors (a lido for me) really helps (once you are out of the awful 1st trimester phase). It feels like I finally get hungry enough to override my nausea. I find that right after a long swim I can eat things I normally wouldn't even be able to look at.

Lucinda, following on from Thingys comment I was wondering if we could add the advice to print off the NICE guidelines and take them along to any GP appointments to the top of thread guidelines when we next start a thread. It seems like so many GPs need educating on best practice for HG.

HaichM · 19/06/2017 17:02

Hi ladies,

Sorry for the long absence - I've been having fun with getting everything sorted at work, the heat, lack of sleep, yada yada.

I'm sorry that everyone else is still struggling and for 1984 having to join us.

Holly so jealous you have a date to look forward to. Hopefully being off on mat leave, giving you more time to rest will help with the nausea and sickness and hopefully you're not suffering too much with the heat.

Mustang I pretty much plan to spend my summer dressed like that - I have a range of shorts, cropped leggings, vests and some shirts. I'm hoping people will focus on the bump and not how I look.

I am on mat leave now also. 34 weeks tomorrow. Think DS is getting a little clingy, though still generally a very happy boy and well-behaved. He's come in to share my bed the last two nights and didn't want to let me go when we got to school this morning - lots of cuddles and looking sad. He's been fine since I picked him up though.

I'm already a bit fed up but I think that's more to do with lack of sleep and the heat. DH has picked up a fan today so hopefully a bit more sleep tonight will help my mood and general energy levels - especially as I have a driving lesson and mw appt, and I need to go shopping for some little bits. Might try and organise a lunch date with a friend to give me something positive to do while DS is at school.

Anyway, hi to everyone, hope we're doing OK. Sorry about the bleeding and redundancies. Take care

NonStopDisco · 19/06/2017 17:04

1984 Phenergan is Promethazine, I started off on that, he,led a little, but made me so drowsy I forgot to eat or drink- which made it worse! If you can't stand water, lucozade or otherwise may help, I find sometimes sweet stuff is unbearable though. Deffo keep on at your GP.

1984FS · 19/06/2017 17:12

@NonStopDisco Thank you for info. Yes, it was making me very tired but think I'm getting a bit used to it now - which is probably also why my sickness is increasing too. Will get back to my GP asap.
I've not tried lucozade yet, but I will. My semi-frozen orange juice is going down well this afternoon which is good. It's so lovely to have support on here Smile it's so hard for other people to understand how bad it is. X

Hollyhop17 · 19/06/2017 17:23

Hi all, sorry you've had to jpin us 1984. I do seem to be one of the very few for whom promethezine doesnt make drowsy. Definitely go back if its not working.

Happy bday to your LO Mustang, I'm sure people didnt care about your outfit! Well done for making it through.

Sorry to hear DS isca bit clingy Haich. I get annoyed if DH tries to hug me in this heat! Lovely as I'm sure it is, the heat makes the nausea so much worse for me. What are you planning on doing now you're on mat leave? I am pretty depressed about the 3 weeks stretching out ahead of me with nothing to do, but sit in the heat and feel awful... Sad. Any suggestions gratefully recieved!

Thanks Satsooma. Glad to be closer to the top, but SO big and uncomfortable and the heat is making the nausea so much worse... Glad to hear you've improved. Long may it continue.

I know I am going to sound so sterotypically British but... IT'S TOO HOT, I DONT LIKE IT.

LucindaE · 19/06/2017 18:10

1984FS Sorry, I missed that you were already on a medication. As there are a fair number of safe ones to choose from, its well worth asking for something that works better. Did I forget to add cheap ice cream and nibbles of crisps to my list?
HaichM The poor LO''s soon forget about this period of comparative neglect.
Mustang and others - I 've always maintained that longish, floaty dresses are cooler than shorts be and more flattering when one has a huge belly - but they were in fashion when I was expecting DD, and there's only maxi dresses now. As against that, they can need ironing, though I tried to get away with just hanging them up.
satsooma A good idea; I'll add the suggestion of printing them out to the NICE guidelines, next time.
OnNaturesCourse Mother Hen says Cluck Cluck don't overdo it.
Hollyhop Seventene days - great !
Thingybmaboob I hope you got signed off OK?
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked...Watch me cross post.

So previous posts aren't loading for me... I think it could be the app or my phone, so I can't see any comments but hope you are all doing well this evening and coping in the heat.

I've found the nausea back in force today and I am definitely thinking it's the heat. My feet were roasting earlier and felt tight / puffy plus tops of my legs hurt. I know I need to move more to help this but I've literally no energy at all, and every smell sets me off! 😖
