I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is great: 024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

purpleelephant I forgot to say, anti acids really help in controlling sickness.

DeadDoorPost I sometimes have the feeling that I'm being tickled from the inside.

I've been feeling better the last few days. Still nauseous and dizzy but haven't vomited much at all. Hoping I've turned the corner.

NonStopDisco · 02/07/2017 09:18

Lovely scan pic @OnNaturesCourse hope you felt better after some food as well

Managed to get out yesterday and went to a friend's barbecue- felt like I ate loads but I'm please to say yesterday was a non-vomiting day! Back at work on Wednesday so I'm hoping I'll be feeling much better by then.

Hope everyone is enjoying a pleasant Sunday morning!

LucindaE · 02/07/2017 09:48

Lules and NonStopDisco Congratulations on good days.
The feathery strokings are nice and soothing - those sudden jabs rather less so! NonStopDisco You can guess what Mother Hen will say. Don't rush back to work. Have you got a staggered return? Being properly rested is so big a part of recovery. I don't want to be a Cassandra, but so many women on here have gone back too early because of financial worries, but found that they had to go back on sick leave because they weren't properly recovered yet and the strain of commuting etc set it off again.

What a lovely scan pic nature

This medicine is definitely working, am only experiencing the odd bout of mild nausea if my stomach gets too empty or I smell something strong so I definitely recommend it (apparently they don't like to prescribe it in the UK as its more expensive than the other options but they can do) but I don't think its going to be enough for the long car journey next week.

NonStopDisco · 02/07/2017 17:35

Lucinda I'll be able to take time off and work from home if I'm not up to doing a full day, so I'm going to wait and see how I feel, and probably do reduced hours. I can't do an awful lot at the moment, but at least if I'm there "overseeing" it will be plenty of work to be getting on with!

pippanippa · 02/07/2017 19:10

Hi everyone. Natsku that's great news! Holly how is your countdown going, it's so close now?!

After a day of respite yesterday the vomiting is back, only a couple of times though so I shouldn't really complain! We have family staying though so I can properly put my feet up for the week which should help. Hope everyone's having a good weekend.

DeadDoorpost · 02/07/2017 19:18

Ok so does anyone else get weirder out when people you don't know come up to you and ask about your pregnancy?Because I had this woman/girl come up to me and I barely know her and she's kinda too interested in how I'm doing coz she wants to try for a child. She's also a bit too friendly with another friend of mine who's currently got a 1.5 yr old and she's the same with this friend.

Am I just being weird about it coz it's my first or is the whole thing odd?

Thingymaboob · 02/07/2017 20:30

@DeadDoorpost she sounds like she's anxious. I think everyone feels differently about how much they should talk about pregnancy. I'm like an open book. I am happy to talk to people about it. I had a nightmare ttc and I've had miscarriages before and now I've got HG.
I recently said "congratulations" to a senior manager at work. We know she's pregnant and she's got a really obvious bump as she's 20ish weeks. She's very slim. She was wearing very well fitting clothes so not trying to hide it and I saw her and said congratulations and she looked really awkward and annoyed and said "oh, I didn't realise it was common knowledge". I was mortified. I actually think it's a bit weird to respond like that when she's got an obvious bump. Anyway, I wasn't prying or asked her any questions,I thought it was just a nice thing to say. My line manager was also there and he thought I shouldn't have said anything. I'm so embarrassed as I never believed in a million years she would react like that. Anyway, I've learnt my lesson that not every obviously pregnant woman wants people to know even though they can see with their eyes.

Hollyhop17 · 02/07/2017 20:39

Hey Pippa, sorry the vomming is back but glad you've got family to help.

It's feeling very real all of a sudden. We've just repacked his bag and mine as we will now be staying in longer than originally thought and I have spent the day filling up my diary so family members are with me for the first 6 weeks. Just in case my recovery is slow and I need physical help after DH is back at work.

So normally I am thinking about the end of HG but today has been a bit more practical! The nausea has been horrible though.

Lucinda what would you say is the % of people for whom it lingered after birth? I am having another irrational moment of, what if it doesnt immediately go? I was told by my hospital that I will need to be on an anti emitic drip during the section as it will be dangerous to be sick... Any of you ladies previously had a section and HG?

Waves. I hope everyone has had a good a weekend as possible.

TwoDrifters · 02/07/2017 21:03

Holly I had HG right up to my section & in fact was laid out in the theatre after having had my epidural when I suddenly said "I'm going to be sick!"

The midwives and anaesthetist all said "Don't try to move!" and they brought me over one of those kidney-shaped dishes, held it right up to my face & I just sort of slightly turned my face to one side & vomited in a very undignified manner. Blush

LucindaE · 02/07/2017 21:08

Hollyhop Don't worry - the percentage is minimal. I can think of half a dozen women besides lucky old me who suffered from Hyperemesis after birth out of seven years worth of threads - hundreds of women. That has to be less than half of one per cent! As you have had so many pieces of bad luck, surely you can be let off this one... I was ill with a rare infection in the stitches and anemia from blood loss, for instance, which may have set it off again, and then, the hormones involved in breast feeding seemed to set it off in me, and in some of the others.I was very ill for about ten days, and then I just felt generally nauseated with the let down reflex. With all of us it stopped when we stopped breast feeding.

Natsku So glad meds are working. Long car journeys are to be avoided if possible - not sure what to recommend there, apart from take sick bags, oh dear.

DeadDoorPost Perhaps she heard how ill you had been from your friend? Probably a blunt sort of person? She may be thinking - it's only human nature - 'Oh dear; I hope it doesn't happen to me'...
NonStopDiscoI'm glad that you can stagger things.
Pippasnippa Sorry the sickness has returned; a disappointment.
Thingymaboob I don't understand why that woman was offended - on slim people it is usually so obvious that how could she think it was a secret if she wore tight clothes? How silly, and how weird that the line manager thought you shouldn't have said anything. This is not the Victorian age!
Watch me cross post...

Hollyhop As below. Sorry I can't advise you about c section and vomiting - I hope TwoDrifters advice helped.
Thingymaboob I am sorry about the miscarriages - even one is miserable.

Hollyhop17 · 02/07/2017 21:25

Thanks Two Drifters. I am really worrying about being sick while laying down...

Ok thanks Lucinda. I'm so anxious about it. Probably the state of my mental health doesnt help.

Melleebacca · 02/07/2017 21:35

Holly - the pain meds might make you nauseous, it runs in my family, everyone pukes on the meds, but once you're back on the standard meds, your HG should be well and truly gone. Well done on all the prep work. Everyone I've known who has had a c section has recovered well as long as they take it very slow at the beginning. I was meant to be on bedrest for 2w after DD (due to elaborate tearing), but I felt much better after just a week of good food. Just listen to your body.
Oh, and I had DD in her portable bassinet on the bed with me at night, and hubby in the spare room, so I didn't have to move much in order to feed her.
It's all getting very real! I will be induced August 31st if I go over, so will definitely have another baby by the end of next month!

DeadDoorpost · 02/07/2017 23:24

Thingy and Lucinda I dunno, she just weirds me out whenever I see her. Considering she asked me how we conceived Hmm

Lemondrop99 · 03/07/2017 00:33

Hi all. Sorry I've been AWOL, it's been a busy weekend. I've been feeling ok the last few days - which probably means I'm due a cycle of a few days of feeling rubbish again soon!

Nature, really happy your scan went well.

Purple, I dope you're feeling a little better? If the cyclizine doesn't start to have an effect soon, I agree with Mother Hen - go back and push for ondansetron. Evil constipation aside, it is the most effective drug.

Holly, OMG you're having a baby THIS week! I'm beyond excited for you!

I've been struggling with reduced movements again. He seems to go through cycles of very active days followed by a few quiet days. I have no idea why but it's very stressful. I don't want to keep pestering the hospital. I was getting worried by this morning after only recalling a couple of kicks over the last two days. And yet when he did finally start kicking today....now he hasn't stopped all day and is currently keeping me awake! At 27 weeks, I had how's movements would be more consistent by now 😕 Oh well, at least he's enjoying booting me in the bladder right now. Stupid stressful pregnany, be glad when it's over.

Hope everyone has a better week next week.

pippanippa · 03/07/2017 08:13

Holly it sounds like you've got a great plan, having family to help you out over the next 6 weeks. I remember those last few days before my DD arrived (she was stubbornly quite late), sitting in the nursery, just waiting in the quiet...(my mind seems to have edited out the stinking cold / vomiting / discomfort from massive bump!). It is so lovely when they arrive at last Smile.

Lemon I swear babies know just how to stress us out to the maximum, hope you got some sleep and weren't kicked awake all night!

deaddoor wow, that's quite a question to ask someone - I think I'd be taken aback too!!

Same old, same old here, have a review appointment towards end of the week though so we'll see what they say then. Hope you all have a good day today!

Hollyhop17 · 03/07/2017 08:46

Lemon, my LO is exactly the same. I've been in for reduced movement 3 times. At nearly 38 weeks still no pattern. So dont worry (I know you will) it happens to me too. They have always been nice when I go in so don't feel like you cant. Pleased to hear you've had a good few days, hope it continues.

Thanks for the advice Mellee. My DH is worried about me not taking it easy as I am very impatient. I am going to have to force myself as I'm not naturally inclined to ask for lots of help... Good to know about pain meds.

Waves to all. Hope everyone has a good week. 3 DAYS TO GO Smile

weasledee · 03/07/2017 08:53

Exciting Holly!!! :)

Oklahoma · 03/07/2017 09:21

Holly Lucinda is the only person I have come across other than me where the HG continued and mine stopped as soon as I stopped BF and was nowhere near as bad as when I was pregnant. It was just a massive rush of nausea (and sometimes sick) with the let down. It's really rare. You would be so unlucky if it happened to you. I can't believe you're having a baby this week!!! So exciting

Hollyhop17 · 03/07/2017 09:27

Thanks both. Good to know Oklahoma. I just keep thinking its been so awful all the way throughout that I will continue to be unlucky. I have been pinning all my hopes on finally feeling 'normal' again. Not that I can remember what that feels like.

I need to keep myself busy these 3 days so I dont have time to dwell on it...

Lemondrop99 · 03/07/2017 09:32

Wow Oklahoma, I'm so impressed you managed to breastfeed despite the sickness continuing. I really want to try and breastfeed but I'm not sure I'd have the strength to continue through that after 9 months. I think I'd have probably given up and gone to formula

weasledee · 03/07/2017 09:33

Holly with my first two I had this bad morning sickness till about 16 weeks and then it turned to "normal" morning sickness right through to being in labour/waiting for c-section. The minute I got back to the post natal ward i realised I didn't feel sick anymore! Instant relief :) hopefully you'll b the same :)

Mustang27 · 03/07/2017 10:55

Oh my goodness Holly I'm super excited for you. I'm another good news story with the nausea as soon as he was out and I had come out of my labour haze i was completely nausea free it was amazing.

Sorry about everyone struggling with the movement pattern my wee one was the same I just used to jiggle the bump until he was majorly pissed at me and I got a kick in the ribs lol. Didn't always work and there was a couple of times I was really worried.

Hi to everyone else such a fast moving thread and I'd rather not bore you with a page long post to everyone if I did catch up. Still being sick 3/4 a day, canned the ondansetron though as I just couldn't hack the constipation so on a cyclizine stemetil mash up and it is helping a little. I'm getting fatter so it's not all that bad lol.
