What did you find a waste of money?

Just wondered what you find a waste of money and will not be buying this time round!? Could be items that were for the baby or you, before baby (PG) and after!

i think muslin squares are the best thing for lo to use as a comforter. means you don't have battles when they have to be washed or if it gets lost.

Useless buys:

Baby Bjorn carrier. Tiny DD kept dropping out of it; only used it for about a month.

Swing you put baby in and hang from door. She hated it.

Changing bag. Tried three types, gave up three times. Use a small rucksack.

Stokke highchair before age of 1: she kept hitting her head badly on the wood. I got a hceap folding one from Mothercare, far more practical.

I never bothered with muslin squares, I just bought a few 75p white towels from Tesco and they've done wonders.

The non-muslin using mums must have had babies that didn't puke night and day (unlike my poor DS)

Least useful

Travel system
Posh 'luxury' changing mat with linen and towelling cover - what was I ever thinking? We use a free one that came with something - and that is wipe clean
Breastpads - wore them religiously for 2 months, then realised it was pointless as I had never leaked a drop (Duh!)
Crib - DS used for precisely 4 nights (which works out at about £50 a night including the bedding

Its not just the puke - they come in handy as dribble cloths later on, lol.

Travel changing mat.
Bouncer chair with vibrate
Moses basket
Bumbo
Travel System - seriously, i wouldn't have been without it this last 6 months.

Gosh, I have a drawer full of muslin squares, they are like gold dust to me when dc's tiny.

I agree with you nappyaddict, ds (4) still takes one to bed every night. He calls them mut muts????? sweet though.

waste of money for me was the baby bath and top and tail bowl and the hanging mobile, not great with a cot top changer, doh.

I often thought of writing an article for a baby mag called '101 uses for a muslin nappy' - my sister gave me a load & I still have some (DC are 19 & 17) - they have been used for: handkerchief, sun shade in car (hung over seatbelt), emergency sun hat on beach, sick cloth, bundle on end of stick for Dick Whittington, shepherd's headdress, lunch cloth for victorian day, making cheese for DS's school talk, mopping up spills, cloak for teddy bear/doll, improvised sling/bandage, stuffing down my bra to cope with overflow, padding in all sorts of situations, wedding marquee for sylvanians etc, etc.
The only thing I've never done is put it on a child's bum.

Someone help me out, I thought muslin was used to strain stuff like a sieve...how come the wet stuff in the sick doesn't seep through it onto clothes underneath??

Muslin squares for babies are like 12x12 squares of thin cotton material. They are great for draping over a shoulder when burping baby, or just carrying a baby who tends to be a depositer. Also good for wiping/comforting/cleaning/protecting...

Just been reading this thread and agree with most that's been said- BUT IMO breast pads were absolutely essential... I leaked a lot! Nice! Especially when BF... the other boob tended to start going even without a baby on it. Should have had twins! I would've won a few wet T-shirt competitions without them.
