Huey?? I've always had a huge crush on the lead singer of The Fun Lovin Crimials HUey Morgan so probably a huge influence but my MIL & SIL pulled a funny face!!

I want something uncommon as my DD's name is fast heading towards the top ten girls names and it annoys me to hear her name everwhere i go and want to avoid a similar situation without being ridiculous and yes i am aware Donald Duck has a son/nephew (can't remember) of the same name but what do you reckon??

I also thought of Haribo when I read Huey Beau. Huey's fine as a nickname but I wouldn't use it as the given name.

Swizzler · 16/03/2007 21:27

Sholto

Baysmum · 16/03/2007 21:33

OOOh Lola- did you say you love Bay - thats my ds name and its lovely to see it mentioned - see it IS a real name! I am pg with no.2 ds and struggling for an unusual but not too mad (!!) name - HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

kayzr · 17/03/2007 13:31

I think Huey is a great name. I'm calling mine Freddie after my fave footballer Freddie Ljungberg.

But my husband loves it and knows why I want to call him it.

Ignore other people if thats what you want to call him then do it.

3sEnough · 17/03/2007 13:34

Hmm - sounds a bit like a thing you spit out on the pavement, but having said that my dc's names are ridiculous so who am I to talk!!lol

NomDePlume · 17/03/2007 13:35

Kirstie thingy from Location, Location is called Bay

NomDePlume · 17/03/2007 13:35

sorry, her son is called Bay

belgo · 17/03/2007 13:35

lolabelle -I remember your thread a few months ago wanting to call your baby Lola if a girl- do you know now if you're having a boy?

I like Hugh or Hugo. Not so keen on Huey.

booge · 17/03/2007 13:38

I like it.

Roobie · 17/03/2007 13:42

Hughie is quite cute but I'd start with the conventional Hugh/Hugo and go from there. Don't like nicknames and shortened versions being used as a 'proper name' if you see what I mean.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 17/03/2007 13:43

I like Huey but I think you'd need a stronger middle name than Beau to go together.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 17/03/2007 13:44

I saw Hewey for an actor (in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy), I think it's a "proper" Welsh first name.

chocolateface · 17/03/2007 13:46

Huey is a fabulous name. We were going to call ds2 Hugo, and shorten it to Huey, When he was born he was just too small & skinny to carry it off.

murcimari · 17/03/2007 14:20

Huey is a fab name (especially spelt like this)...go for it girl!

PeachesMcLean · 17/03/2007 14:32

NOOOO! DS's middle name is Huw (for his Welshness) but I certainly wouldn't go for Huey.

medulsa · 17/03/2007 17:04

don't see what the big question/angst is all about. You both agree on Huey (this in itself is a major achievement), so go for it. You seem to have a comfort and familiarity with it now too. I think that as others have said, you'll know as soon as you see him.

Troutpout · 17/03/2007 17:19

I think it is donald ducks nephew
Hugh?...it doesn't spring to mind with Hugh

Troutpout · 17/03/2007 17:22

Just read your second post....
Gawd ...if you both like it then go for it...who cares what we think at the end of the day. They just become their name once they are here don't they?

Lolabelle · 22/03/2007 14:27

yes belgo i am having a boy soon!! So the whole Lola/dog debate is now void which is good!!

The questioning/angst thing i guess is that i have had such negative responses from my MIL & SIL it made me doubt it but i am reassured more now i can reflect back on everyones opinions and see how different they are. The Beau as a middle name could be Harrison so Huey Beau or Huey Harrison but i so love the name Beau as a name that i tried to sneak it in somewhere!!! Harrison makes my whole name sound different but i did laugh at the Haribo comments!! This will be our last baby so just trying to sneak Beau in as i should've used it first time round really....!

Baysmum - very good taste i must say, gutted we can't use it, love Beau and Bay andnames like that but as first names believe me they wouldn't work!! Huey Bay doesn't really work either but actually no more so i guess then Huey Beau...food for thought!

Any suggestions for middle names that go better with HUey than Beau??

Saw Mr Morgan on tv Tuesday night on some Julian Clary dog training celebrity programme and he was on older and chubbier than his old self but just as lush, tried to downplay my crush but my husband stated again how nice his name was when it came up on the screen so maybe being comfortable with it is the first hurdle, now i need a middle name that doesn't sound like Haribo when together!!

I really like Arlo!

We're having a boy and had chosen Gabriel as his name but so many people were negative about it that it put us off completely. We then decided that we liked Angus and kept that a secret as we didn't want anyone to put us off.

If you keep the name a secret, no one will be rude about it when you present the name and there's a gorgeous baby to put to the name!

We've since changed our mind about the name and have chosen 3 (!) new ones. They're staying a secret too. I was pleased to see that they featured in the 'cool names for babies' book that was mentioned earlier as I was beginning to think that my DH had made the first name up!

Also laughing at the mention of 'Eugene'. My FIL and BIL are both called this although neither of them use it! (i'm so glad DH was not the 1st son!)

Hope you find a name that you truly love and don't let anyone put you off it once you've chosen!

bumperlicious · 22/03/2007 17:34

I really like Huey, and Harrison, but not together. I say go for it, especially if that is what feels right in your head.

We like Noah, but my mum hates it and says it makes her think of an ark and animals going in 2 by 2. I told if we name her grandson Noah it will make her think of her grandson. She suggested Rory...

snipersmum · 22/03/2007 17:36

I like the spelling 'Hughie' best.

Sunyshineymummy · 23/03/2007 10:32

I think Huey is reaslly nice. We also kept our names a secret until DS was born as people kept putting us off things. Absolutely love his name so am so please we called him it. I know a Raffi (it's an Armenian name) and it's very cool.

Twiglett · 23/03/2007 10:34

sound like someone being sick

and what is it short for? Hubert?

Twiglett · 23/03/2007 10:37

I have to say that calling a child Hugh / Huw will lead to much angst as the way one constructs a 'you' sentence is very easily confused with 'Hugh' and leads to much irritation with people making jokes (ie I was saying Hugh not you .. who me? .. arrghh) or just misunderstanding

also don't think a child should have a nmae that ONLY ends in y (as in the 'ee' sound) .. as it always sounds like a familiar shortening and names should be flexible enough to have a 'formal' version if required

but that's my thoughts
