Huey?? I've always had a huge crush on the lead singer of The Fun Lovin Crimials HUey Morgan so probably a huge influence but my MIL & SIL pulled a funny face!!

I want something uncommon as my DD's name is fast heading towards the top ten girls names and it annoys me to hear her name everwhere i go and want to avoid a similar situation without being ridiculous and yes i am aware Donald Duck has a son/nephew (can't remember) of the same name but what do you reckon??

My ds has a son called hugh and its a lovely name. huey i am not to sure of sounds like a "pet" version of hugh but I wouldnt dream of critising as I named one of my dc after a tv programme I watched as a LO

bewilderbeast · 16/03/2007 12:54

i like it but then I love huey morgan he's delicious. but he will be an adult with a (possibly serious) job and therefore I think Hugh would be better and you could call him huey whilst he's small

Lolabelle · 16/03/2007 13:17

True Huey Morgan is delicious and true HUgh would be more sensible but just need to get past DH, he may agree with hugo but i'm not sure about Hugh as he dislikes Hugh Grant very much!

Dh has become outraged at the Arlo suggestion and likes Beau but not with our surname whihc i agree on and likes Harrison but doesn't like Harry as too popular round here, only got 7 weeks to go now!!

but htey grow in to names

my ds2 has the short version of the Musical Legend's name but also the long version which sounds like something out of Jeeves and Wooster, the former sounding like something from Detroit.

So if he does end up Captian of industry or clerk of semiconductors in and elecctrical warehouse in Slough he can change it accordingly. But on the whole he's pretty funky

so go for it.

BTW dh was once mistaken for the first drummer of FLC and got interviewed by the editor of Drum Magazine for a good few minutes before they realised the mistake, how we laughed!

xxsummerxx · 16/03/2007 13:31

I think you should call your baby what you want to call him, at the end of the day when he's born he may not look like a
Huey and you'll have to pick something completly different, but then again, it might be perfect for him!!

Its not the worst I've heard, I have a friend who had her first baby at the end of last year, a gorgeous baby boy......and they called him Stanley.....

Lolabelle · 16/03/2007 13:44

A friend of mine recently chose Eugene but she loved it so each to their own i guess...

I'll spk to DH tonight and see how much he really likes huey, he may doubt it also but if he LOVES it then it will be interesting to see if i am easily persuaded - don't snigger if in 7 weeks you see my birth announecment Huey Beau...

Hi Lolabelle

Have you tried looking for unusual baby names on the internet?

We called my 2 yr Xander & my bump is gonna be called Corey. I prefer unusual names gives the child an even greater sense of being an individual.

Good luck with finding a name

Lolabelle · 16/03/2007 13:58

i have looked but i've just bought apregnancy mag and there is a free book on the front called cool names for babies and there is loads of inspiration in there - some bizarre and some lovely so i may make a new list tonight and presentit to my dh!! He'll dig his heels in with huey if there is no good alternatives but its a good book with all sorts of wierd and wonderful names plus the old faves so i highly reccommend it...

i know a little girl called Logan and it suits her so well - this thread proves that you really can't please everyone as there are SUCH difference of opinion as i love the girls names Pearl, Esme and Ines and my MIL & SIL hate those too!! Well they just look at each other in 'that' way but i am super grateful for feedback as its thrown a few ideas up and reminded me that Hugo IS becoming increasingly popular and raised Hugh as an option - no feedback yet on Arlo or Beau so i take that as a bad sign sign...

Deakon as a name? You obviously didn't watch Blue Peter in the 1980s...

MrsBadger · 16/03/2007 14:41

MrsGumby I know

no idea where he was looking - he just came onto MSN with a list. I don't think he'd associated it with the bird-claw to be honest. Or at least I hope not...

grouchyoscar · 16/03/2007 14:52

Huey is smart, go for it.

Darn fine name

a good bloke to have a crush on tbh

nuttymum1 · 16/03/2007 16:49

no i wasnt born till 1980 and logan is my ds's name and i love it

BarbieLovesKen · 16/03/2007 17:00

sorry - yuck!!...

katybird · 16/03/2007 17:07

I think Huey's fine, I've heard much worse and I prefer it to Hugh or Hugo which sound a bit snooty. It does lend itself to amusing nicknames but then kids will find rhymes for even the most 'normal' names, I don't think it means he'll automatically be picked on.

We're considering Logan if we have a boy, DP was inspired by X-Men!

rescuepack · 16/03/2007 17:16

If you like Raffy as a nickname how about Raffaello instead of Rafferty.

homemama · 16/03/2007 17:17

I like it and I've never come across one in my teaching career if that helps you decide. (By that I mean I think it's smart, funky and not at all common!)

zippitippitoes · 16/03/2007 17:21

i like it ds middle name is huw

Lolabelle · 16/03/2007 17:21

Thanks - i've yet to hear of one either but is that a good thing??!! Thanks GrouchyOscar i have had a crush for years but its not just a sexual thing - honest - i think he exudes charm & cool and they are the things that i associate with the name OBVIOUSLY not the sexual part when i'm choosing for my own DS!!

Raffaelo is lovely but i know my husband wouldn't approve and we have to compromise i guess - i've just told him about considering other names apart from Huey and he wants to know why and i've just asked him to be open minded as i need to have thought of other options so we are sitting down tonight for a baby name discussion which never seems to go anywhere!!

LOVE Sonny also and Jed, loving Raff and DH has said he will accept Huey or Rafferty (Raff) but i kinda knew that anyway. My sister says go with my gut but i don't seem to have one anymore - Huey is familiar as i've toyed with it for so long now that i can't step back and be objective on it if that makes sense??!

really love Sonny - its a shame DH isn't budging on that one! Love bay but its a HUGE no no for my surname!
