I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Aww Holly, sending you big hugs. If you aren't any better can you be signed off again?

I had a lovely weekend, only had to battle nausea and overheating on Saturday. Yesterday I was only fighting nausea a tiny bit on a long car journey. Today, I've felt it since my feet hit the floor and spent last twenty minutes violently throwing up bright yellow bile. That violent I can smell it as it's in my nose, TMI sorry just need a moan as it hurt and I stupidly thought I was finally turning the corner with it.

I'm wondering if it's a bit better on days off as I wake up leisurely most of the time, lie in bed a little and ease into the day. Whereas on work days I only doze for 15 minutes then it's up, make the bed, put a wash on, fed the cat, sort myself and out the door kinda thing. My sickness tends to hit when making the bed... Could it be body's way of saying "take it easy"?

Hope everyone is doing as well as possible xx

flossyfloss · 05/06/2017 09:23

Morning

thanks for all your kind comments it definitely helps to speak to others going through the same thingFlowers

Holly you are super mum, everything you've been through and you're still plodding onFlowers

Mentally I feel slightly better this morning, I have my scan tomorrow so I do tend to feel better around scan time probably because it reminds me why I'm doing this. Work are being so understanding and allowing me to work from home - I haven't actually been in the office for a couple of weeks now.

My problem now is that I moved house a few months ago and my gp surgery have now said I need to register at another surgery as I am out of their area Angry I am worried that the new gp might argue with the repeat prescription for ondansetron - the last thing I need at the moment!

Hollyhop17 · 05/06/2017 09:31

I feel your pain On. I threw up at the pub yesterday having lunch with my in laws and it came out my nose Sad Been a while since that happened.

It is definitely 'better' on days off I find. Being able to go at your own pace and take lots of breaks helps. Forcing myself into a routine always makes me worse. Are you due in work today?

I could get signed off again but next week is my last week before I start mat leave anyway. I need to go in to drop stuff off and get personal stuff from my desk as, thankfully, I am never returning to my job.

Hollyhop17 · 05/06/2017 09:34

Sorry, cross posted Flossy. Thanks for your kind comment. Glad to hear you're feeling better today.

Good luck with the GP, I hate how much of a lottery this is. National guidelines exist for a bloody reason... If not, dont lose hope. The PSS will be able to give you a friendly consultant in your area who might be able to prescribe or your hospital might do it. Mine did when my GP refused to prescribe.

Lemondrop99 · 05/06/2017 09:37

Ergh nose vomit is the worst

I'm off to a consultant appointment because (despite HG) I'm still a little fatty! Hoping it'll be productive rather than fat shaming because it's not like I can diet right now!

NonStopDisco · 05/06/2017 09:41

I've found the best palette cleanser after a bile session is corsodyl mouthwash. It mings to begin with, but settles so that mouth, and somehow, nose are refreshing fast and scent free.

Hollyhop17 · 05/06/2017 09:54

Same here Lemon! I havent put on a lot of weight and lost a bit in the first trimester, but as I was a fatty to begin with, they have never been concerned with my weight.

Good luck, I will be raging on your behalf if they fat shame you...

cantdothisagain2017 · 05/06/2017 10:26

10am each day seems to be the worst point of the day. Projectile vomiting and it's awful.rest of the time it's severe nausea and vomiting if I eat but 10-11 is absolute torture it's constant I'm lying on the bathroom floor in between at the moment I hate this so much

CaptainWarbeck · 05/06/2017 10:49

Hello everyone, I haven't posted for ages because my hyperemesis improved massively around 20 weeks (there is hope for those of you suffering) ... however I'm now 37 weeks and threw up for the first time in months this morning. Angry

Is sickness recurrence in late pregnancy a thing? I'm still on medication and occasionally feeling nauseous in the mornings but I had thought the actual vomiting was over for this pregnancy.

Flowers for everyone in the early weeks

OnNaturesCourse · 05/06/2017 11:03

I genuinely could fall asleep at my desk. I did manage breakfast, only gagged 4/5 times but felt I had to force something down for energy. 💤

I've heard scary rumors that pregnancy sickness can come back in the last month or so 😔

Mustang27 · 05/06/2017 11:15

Captain mine got gradually worse from 34w until my ds was born. I'm really hoping this time is different as it sucked to retch so much with such a big bump,my bladder control was not its best when my nearly 9lb baby was engaged Blush

Can't that sounds really awful can't you just get a sick bucket and your bed? I know it's not pretty but you've not got a bug so laying in bed vomiting isn't quite as disgusting I think with HG. On my worst days I couldn't make it to the loo for every vomit so I always have a large bowl beside me.

I'm sorry you had a nose vomit Holly I really can't wait to hear you have had your little one I think you are just going to be buzzing afterwards because you are going to feel great. I didn't sleep for first 3 days i just felt like I was on cloud 9 couldn't believe this tiny person was all ours and I felt awesome with no nausea or vomiting it's then you truly realise how ill you have been I think.

weasledee · 05/06/2017 11:53

Hi just thought I'd join and say hello.
I had HG with my first 2 and was hoping I'd avoid it this time.... but sadly it started yesterday!!
Forgot how awful it is..... constant nausea from dawn to dusk Confused

LucindaE · 05/06/2017 14:11

Weasledee Welcome. Very brave of you to go for number three. Sorry it has started again. You are a real expert now, and don't need any advice from me about pre-emptive meds, kesositx or flat, full sugar coke, the juice of tinned fruit etc. What meds were you on last time? How long did you suffer?
Hollyhop Of all the women in these threads for seven years, about six have suffered after birth, so you really must not worry that you will be one of the unlucky band. You've had enough bad luck already! Did you say that you have given in your notice even apart from maternity leave or was it redundancy? I probably used to know about pregnancy and short term contracts and the law as a union rep, but I've long since forgotten now, I'm afraid. Sorry about nose vomit. Really painful.
I think gasping for breath between retching bouts can do it.
Thingymaboob Sorry about car park vomit. Public Puking Performances are not fun. Grin about your OH stuffing his face.
Mustang and Mustang Don't despair. A lot of women find around 15 -16 weeks is the turning point. Anecdotally form women with normal MS, a lot of women with controllable vomiting suffer up to 16 weeks, though for some reason this 12 week goal is always quoted.
At what point did things ease a bit with LO?
Can'tdothisagain I so agree with others, a bowl by the bed is the only thing.
CaptainWarbeck Poor you. I am afraid that it can return in the third tri (though never as badly as in the first). It is very discouraging and as you say, awkward to bow down before the Porcelain Object of Worship.
flossyfloss That's a pest about a new GP worry. Was it prescribed by the old one, or a consultant?
flapattack I typed a message for you and can't read my own writing.Hmm
Melleebacca Your mother has my symapthies over those migraines. Mine went at 16 weeks. Poor thing if she suffered throughout!
Apologies to anyone rudely ignored.

I'm 8 weeks. Does anyone feel nauseous while lying on either their left or right side? I feel rough all the time. Is that no weird for so early on??

weasledee · 05/06/2017 14:26

Hi Lucinda,
I didn't take any medication last time. i was signed off work for 8 weeks though. Seems to become "normal" morning sickness for me around 14 weeks.
Promised my boys we'd go the playcentre today, before the HG started.... so now sat in playcentre from hell feeling hurrendous Confused

LucindaE · 05/06/2017 15:41

weasledee Do try for some meds. It is so difficult keeping hydrated and trying to battle on without. Sorry you are having to look after LO's when feeling so awful.
Welcome to Presh1234 Welcome. Sadly, I think one can feel awful in any position, but lying down makes it slightly more bearable. Unfortunately, it can hit very hard quite early. What attitude does your GP have about treatment?

DeadDoorpost · 05/06/2017 17:50

Ladies, I heard the babys heartbeat for the first time today and also found out that the risk of gestational diabetes is low because of how much weight I've lost. Midwife had to weigh me again because of it but everything is all good.

Mustang27 · 05/06/2017 18:33

That's lovely Dead is this your first time? I'm actually really nervous for my scan incase this is a multiple as that would be a disaster as there would be so much needing changed.

I do love their little thundering heartbeats.

pippanippa · 05/06/2017 19:11

Wow, it's been busy, so sorry to hear lots have had a rubbish weekend, and hello to all the new people. Haven't had chance to read properly but will catch up soon!

DeadDoorpost · 05/06/2017 19:33

Mustang yeah, its my first one. I still don't feel ready though (I'm 23) but least the husband is happy and supportive. And I've just finished uni so I'm not missing out on that.

byvelds11 · 05/06/2017 20:12

Hi again everyone
I have a quick question. Can I take both ondansetron and cyclizine at the same time? I had tried cyclizine before and it really sedated me so stopped it and started ondansetron. Now though, the ondansetron alone is not enough and I'm so nauseous in the evening. Can I take them both tonight at the same time? I saw my gp today (who did not prescribe the meds as it was a walk in clinic) and she was so uneducated and unhelpful. Wasn't even willing to prescribe more ondansetron as it's for "people with cancer". I told her to review the literature on its use in HG. I hate that I know more about this than her. I'll be getting my prescription from the EPU from now on. Ugh. I could go on about her lack of clinical knowledge and bedside manner but I'll leave it at that. Thanks everyone!

DeadDoorpost · 05/06/2017 20:24

Yeah there's people on here taking them at the same time. As for more ondansetron if you need it phone 111 and hopefully theyll put you through to the out of hours Dr who can prescribe some (first hand experience here.) Explain to the people at 111 what happened and they should be able to help. They're normally awesome.

Lemondrop99 · 05/06/2017 20:50

Byvelds, seriously, call the PSS helpline and get the name of your local HG friendly consultant and then tell your GP you want referring. I get so cross with the issues people face around getting ondansetron.

Yes you can take cyclizine with it. If that doesn't help, try promethazine (this worked better for me than cyclizine, although still totally zonks me out)

Waves to everyone else. My consultant appointment was fine, no fat shaming. In fact she said nothing further would happen and put me back under midwife led care. Unless there's any growth issues, I won't need extra scans. She was annoyed no one had put me on a higher dose of folic acid (too late now) and Vit D (starting that now).

Mustang27 · 05/06/2017 20:54

Dead i was 30 when I had mini mustang I wasn't ready. No matter what age it hits you but look at it this way when mini dead is 20 you will only be 43 that's awesome. I wish I'd started earlier lol. Well if hubs is super ready just make sure he is all the involved in as much baby care as possible lol.

Byvelds I'm on both. Cyclizine makes me pretty groggy too so tend to only take it at night for that reason. My nausea is so bad at the moment it's waking me at night I'm not vomiting then at least but the night of the LB attacks I ended up nibbling dry toast at 2am glued to the news trying to get it under control so I could go back to sleep. Honestly I will be better rested chasing a toddler and looking after a new born than nursing my way through HG pregnancy lol I'm convinced.
