I'd like to join NCT antenatal classes - but I'd also like a caesarian. Will I be a pariah?

Hi there

Kind of an odd question, I know. I am pregnant with no. 1 after many years of trying. I would really love to join the NCT in my area, primarily because of the potential friends I might make - I don't know anyone IRL in the same position nearby or otherwise, and it would be fantastic to pal up with other mums-to-be and get a support system going. But the problem is that for various reasons I want a caesarian section rather than a natural birth. I know the NCT are very big on natural birth, and have read that in some groups c sections are deemed almost the work of the devil. Would I quickly become an outcast?

I'd really appreciate any advice you can give me.

Thanks

Kate

Notquitecockney, have just read your comments and it made me lol

Perhaps this is down to me marrying someone stupidly tall with a giant head?)

I spent the whole of my last pg looking at my DS and wondering why I chose him when he has a huge head and massively wide shoulders! Everything went ok though thankfully.

MuminBrum, I'm thinking about doing a course for mums with babies and possibly mums with toddlers (and eventually mums with teenagers - the one I get asked about most!)

For the moment sticking with antenatal, though. Much quieter!

Patricia.

Kate, I'm probably not doing another London one after that until the Autumn. I do have a weekend course in June with places still available. It's in a very beautiful spot in South Wales (only 2.25 hrs. by train from Paddington), with residential places available.

It'll be all the same stuff as in the day one, but with a few extra topics and a bit more time for discussion. Other halves are very welcome, and it would be a lovely way to spend some time focusing on each other and on what your hopes and fears are for parenthood.

Let me know if you're interested (or if you can make the May one after all).

I only skimmed the thread before I posted last time. I didn't realise that you've had a tough time of it over the last few years and you are so fearful of birth .

Have you heard about hypnobirthing classes? I did them as well as the NCT course. I really did the NCT classes for the social side - it was the hypnobirthing classes that really helped me with any fears about the birth. Hypnobirthing relaxation techniques are also helpful to relax you and help you sleep in the last trimester as well as keep you relaxed and calm before whatever method of delivery you choose.

Good luck with your pregnancy and birth I hope it all goes well for you and your lo .

Have you tried ringing these:

If you have questions about issues relating to pregnancy or birth, or if you want to chat about your experiences with a fully qualified antenatal teacher, call our Pregnancy and Birth Line on 0870 444 8709 (10am to 8pm, Monday to Friday).

They may be able to put some of your fears to rest.
