My list so far:
Pram/travel system
Cotbed
Changing mat/table
Moses basket
Car seat
Bottle warmer
Bottle sterilizer
Bottlrs
Bouncy chair
Sling

I have no idea how many vests, bibs, clothes etc, or what else?

Sounds terrible but it's our first, likely our only, baby so I'd like to have most things... Why I have a sling and pram on the list... Am I missing anything? Baby gates? Bedding?

Great thread. I can't advise as I've forgotten everything from when I had my DCs 9/7 years ago.

And I am lurking for advice as I am expecting #3 and have not the foggiest clue what I'm doing! We don't have any baby stuff at all as we got rid of everything except one hat my friend knitted :o

I wouldn't worry too much about the size of the baby really. Estimates are often wrong anyway.

DS was, completely unexpectedly, nearly 12lbs at birth, and he was big as well as heavy - the midwife's first words after he was born are forever etched in my memory: you don't need babygros, you need school uniform for this one! 😂

... but he STILL fit in newborn clothes for about a month?!

It's difficult, as everyone has different ideas of what's needed.
I wanted/ had: pram (travel system so it had a carrycot and pushchair)
Car seat
Bouncy chair
Playmat
Swing
Crib (I hate Moses baskets so refused to buy one, and my lo always slept upstairs anyway)
Cot for when he outgrow the crib (I didn't want a cot bed)
Bottles
Steriliser
Tin of formula (knew i wasn't going to breastfeed at all)
Changing mat
Baby bath and bath box
Video monitor

I didn't feel it necessary to have:
A changing table (we put the changing mat on the sofa)
Bottle warmer (plastic jug and boiling water works just as well)
Bottle making machine (I prefer to make by hand myself)
As I said I didn't want a Moses basket
I don't like slings so didn't have one

For clothes, we didn't know the sex, so got enough to take to hospital in white. Once the baby was born, we got blue (had a boy).
I had 9 babygrows
9 vests
4 cardigans/ jackets
15 bibs (no muslins)
Some hats and mittens (though the babygrows had built in mittens)
We had 4 cellular blankets and sheets for the crib, as well as the crib bedding set (coverlet and bumper)

Once he got to a month we started to buy him proper clothes and dressed him during the day, so had less babygrows and things.

We didn't need a pramsuit as it was warm when he was born.
We had a special going home babygrow and knitted cardigan and a shawl

Also he had teddies and rattles (new baby toys)

Again, every view will be different
