I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Lapin - I was referred to a dietician this time around. She just told me what foods to eat (anything that sounds appealing) and gave me some nutritional powder to try (was far from appealing). The best part was I am on their books, and if I hadn't gained any weight they were going to admit me and feed me via nasal gastro tube. Go see them anyways, just be prepared to hear stuff that you're already doing.

Haich - I have a trapped nerve in my shoulder that's causing a similar feeling, I see the chiro once a month for it. Check with midwife and she should be able to tell you who to contact.
Sorry I forgot you have SPD. Will try and think of SPD easy activities for DS. My DD loves it when I turn on some music and she has a dance party while I lie on the sofa. I make her dance with her stuffed animals so she doesn't pester me.

Kate - I had to tell my manager at 4.5w last time due to working with dangerous chemicals. I was pulled out of the lab immediately, so by the time I was signed off sick at 5w, everyone I worked with already knew. Told close family at 7w, when I had my diagnosis. And then refused to tell anyone else unless I had to until DD was born. It was really hard having everyone know from so early on, but I took comfort in the fact that if I was so sick, with such high hormone levels, there was a good chance baby would stick. We've told only those that need to know this time around, mostly just close family and a couple of friends. It's because I classify pregnancy as a terrible illness, so don't want to announce anything until I feel well and baby is safely in my arms. As I don't get a visible bump till 3rd trimester, I get a lot of surprised friends when baby arrives.

Holly - hope you're feeling better with the ondansetron. I had my SIL due the day before me last pregnancy, and we were compared constantly and she didn't feel nauseous once. It's really hard to have pregnant friends at the same time you're so ill (hence we don't tell people if we don't have to). I also vowed to only have one. But then DD started sleeping through the night, walking and being so independent, that we considered a second and bam! Definitely no more. Two is plenty!

Oklahoma - that hormone induced amnesia is good stuff. I'm freaking about labour this time around, because I can only remember screaming for an epidural, so it was bad, but I can't remember how bad.

Pippa - I can do grapes, and apricots and at the end of pregnancy, oranges. I find over the course of pregnancy my taste buds change, and I think I'm about to start being able to eat more foods now. Experts also recommend eating foods that babies would start on, like purees. Puréed Apple is meant to be the least offensive.

Me - hubby flies out on his business trip today. So starts 10 days of just me and DD. Only concerned about the meal times and the lack of energetic interaction she might get (mama is pretty lazy when it comes to play).

Melleebacca · 20/04/2017 19:11

Sorry for the essay! Just started rambling and couldn't stop 😊

Waves to everyone I've missed.

Serious - isn't your induce date coming up soon? You must be counting the hours!

katemeister · 20/04/2017 19:45

Thanks everyone, I'm not going to go public just yet - was feeling a bit backed into a corner this morning with lots of what's going on emails from well meaning colleagues - I need to accept I'm off sick and stop looking at my emails!

Looks like some of you are making progress getting meds, I hope they work for you. I'm on the app and not quite got the brain power to reply to everyone specifically but here's to another day down! I'll be 11 weeks on Saturday and think I'm currently and peak awfulness so every day is mini-victory however dreadful it's been.

Double post to back up my story of being crap on the app!

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/04/2017 21:41

@Kate no need to tell anyone you don't want to

I was like @lemon and told people at 7w but only as so ill and this baby /now our daughter 💓👶🏼💓 took 10yrs ttc so if the worst happened ...... then people would understand why so distraught

@pippa. If you can manage fruit then that's healthy but seems on hg that the junker the food is the better you feel 😂

@shirley. Hopefully I shall do a good second in command while @lucinda away

And I loved salt and vinegar crisps. Always did tho

@holly. Same as my close friends. No one had had hg so didn't understand how crap I felt

@oklahoma sorry you are having a bad few days :( but glad your employees supportive

@four sorry more vomits but glad better then 1&2 trimester

I had serious heartburn and our daughter was born with a full head of hair. Gaviscon really helped but if really bad then ask doctor for ranitidine or omeprozeloe

@haich hope next week at work goes ok and always nice to feel an active baby

@lapin glad you have been signed off and I saw a dietician as slightly overweight even tho lost weight throwing up

@mellee hope trapped nerve feels better soon. Hope you will be ok while dh away - easy meals for dd. Whether pasta and pesto. Jacket. Sandwich or cheat and buy micro meals

Hope I included everyone x

Lemondrop09 · 21/04/2017 11:36

How are we today ladies? I'm feeling an awful lot better than the past few days so I'm trying to get some cleaning down before DH gets home (yes I'm pushing and and yes I'm glad Mother Hen isn't here to slap my wrists lol!)

I'm getting both nervous and excited about our private gender scan on Sunday. I was excited to know the gender but now I'm just nervous about the baby and will be relived to know it's ok. Glad we're having a scan, I couldn't last until 20 weeks, it feels like forever!

Hollyhop17 · 21/04/2017 11:53

Morning all. I've been a bit up and down. Not been sick since Weds and the nausea has definitely been a bit better. Have spent the last few days just at home on my own, which I find a bit depressing. Also worrying about going back to work next week. Mid June cant come soon enough!

Glad you're feeling better. Good luck for your scan, it is really exciting finding out. Do you have an inkling/preference? Yeah I think the wait from 12 to 20 is quite big! Because of my big bleed early on I'm having growth scans as well so got my next one next week, so looking forward to that. Reckon he's had a growth spurt though as I have felt loads more movement yesterday and today :)

Waves to everyone else, Kate hope you've managed to find some fruit thats been easier to eat. Mellee how has it been without DH? Hope everyone has a good day.

Lemondrop09 · 21/04/2017 13:11

Ooh! Mid June really isn't that far away, even though it probably feels like it. I don't get maternity leave for months sob Glad you've been a bit better. That growth scan will lovely, The odansetron/promethazine combo hadn't been a magic bullet for me but it's certainly made things more manageable and more good days than bad. Now I'm treating it, I hadn't realised how bad my heartburn was and how much it was getting me down.

I saw you mention NCT on the other thread Holly? Have you booked in? We just have, classes in July. So expensive but I really want to make some mum friends for maternity leave. I've lost so many local friends over the last few years due to London house prices too, almost all my friends moved up north so they could afford to buy, so definitely looking to meet more people.

We both have a slight preference for a girl, but my gut feeling is that it's a boy Grin Honestly, I don't really mind. I've gone through so much, I genuinely do just want a healthy baby at the end of this.

Hollyhop17 · 21/04/2017 14:03

So are you feeling better with the heartburn? I hope so. Yeah, I think I hoped it would go away entirely, but it has definitely got better. I'm on the same meds as you actually.

When are you off on your mat leave? Mid June seems like aaaaaages away! I've got no holiday left as carried it over to go on leave sooner. Really hoping this upturn continues as I am bang out of sick pay and need to work up until June 16...

Yeah I have got NCT classes. They start 17 May, looking forward to it for same reasons as you! Our family live in Hampshire and none of my London friends have children so it feels a bit isolating. Whereabouts in London are you? Perhaps we'll be able to meet up at some point!

We were the same, slight preference for a girl, and was convinced it was. Its a boy and I'm just thrilled now. Like you, given how awful the journey has been I just want him to be healthy.

Lemondrop09 · 21/04/2017 18:05

I'm in SW London (Richmond/Hounslow way) so not too far from you at all Smile.

I'm not sure until end of September but I have approx 30 days annual leave left (I've been saving it up on purpose and rolled 10 days over from last year for this), so I'm hoping to leave as early as possible. Even so, don't think I'll get out of there much before sometime in August - but which time, you'll have a baby!! Still only 3-4 months till I can escape.

Lemondrop09 · 21/04/2017 18:06

*due not sure. Autocorrect fail

Melleebacca · 21/04/2017 18:52

Hi All,

Blondes - going to try pasta tonight. I haven't eaten it for a few months because I lost it so many times. Thanks for your advice, you're doing a great job as mother hen.

Lemon - just be careful how much you do. HG has very set limits in how much you can do before you get worse. Hope all goes well with the scan. Try not to think about it too much beforehand or you won't be able to get any sleep! I had my anatomy scan at 19w because I couldn't wait any longer to find out.

Holly - glad you're having some good days. Any chance you can do part days when you're back at work? Mid June really isn't that far off, and you're doing great! I've got my first growth scan early June, so I'm counting down to that. Maternity MH suggested I find things to look forward to each week to stop me getting overwhelmed about the 4 more months of pregnancy that I have to endure.

Survived day one without hubby. Fell asleep at 8pm out of exhaustion, but have now been awake since 5am. Read somewhere that magnesium deficiency can cause insomnia, so might try some of that tonight.

Waves to all. Hoping everyone has a pukefree weekend!

Oklahoma · 21/04/2017 19:18

What were everyone's worst weeks? I'm 9+2 and I don't think I can do this. I feel so down and useless and just fed up. It's not fair on my husband or my daughter who is so confused. I vaguely think 9-11 we're worst last time but it's pretty hazy.

Melleebacca · 21/04/2017 19:42

Oklahoma - worst weeks physically were 7-10, mentally week 12 is tough due to the constant "why aren't you better yet?" Started turning the corner after week 14.
Hold in there, just take it minute by minute.

katemeister · 21/04/2017 19:51

You may well be in the worst of it Oklahoma I think I'm just coming to the end of my worst weeks (8-10). I've actually put on 1lb and kept some food of substance down today and I'm 11 weeks. Even in the worst of it, there will be good days so one is just round the corner.

katemeister · 21/04/2017 19:51

Lemondrop09 · 21/04/2017 20:29

I think week 8 was my absolute worst because I hadn't found a medication that helped at all then. I was literally in a HG fog, lying in bed thinking "I can't do this". Every single day went on forever. But after week 11 it slowly started easing to something slightly more manageable. You are almost certainly in the worst bit. Hang in there, it will get better.

What medications have you tried so far? You might need a different combo.

Also are you keeping an eye on your urine for ketones. You might be feeling super rubbish because you're too dehydrated and need a drip?

I sympathise. I felt all the emotions you did, about feeling useless and it not being fair on your family. But none of this is your fault and it's only temporary. Big hugs to you, it's rotten Sad

Mellee, you need some promethazine to knock you out! Staying awake is more my problem. Seriously though, I find I sleep all day and wake up at silly times. It's so annoying. Hope you manage some sleep tonight.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/04/2017 20:48

@lemon. Our private scan madam wouldn't reveal herself. Often curled round my stomach - but lovely to see baby in 3d tho did look a bit alien like .... far better at 31w

@holly. Fab you haven't been sick for a few days. Long may it continue

@mel. Well done for surviving without dh and hope pasta stays. In early in literally are plain pasta with some cheese grated over

@okla. 4-8 were awful as so sick and not on medication as didn't reliese I had hg. Just thought bad ms as never been preg before so wasn't sure how sick you are

I had blips through out preg. Good days and bad. Sorry - improved at 16w and also at 20. Tho had bad time at think 24w and 28w

@kate well done for putting weight on

KatieGator · 21/04/2017 20:51

I'm 9+1 today, 2nd pregnancy with HG and last time worst weeks were definitely 7-9. I began to feel slightly more human at 9-10 weeks, but feel like ondansetron was a bit of a magic bullet last time and it hasn't been this time...

I'm due back to work in about 10 days and at the moment, have absolutely no idea how that can be achievable!

Anyway, I haven't got much to add but seeing people say that things improved for them at 10/11 wks makes me feel a bit better. Keeping everything crossed as I'm struggling, not to mention my husband, parents and in-laws who are doing all my toddler wrangling between them.

Hope everyone has a non-pukey evening and a good nights sleep.

DevilWearsPrimark · 21/04/2017 23:05

oklahoma this past week has been the worst, so 8-9 weeks, I lost about 8lb since 7weeks, and most of the loss was after the 8 week mark. I've been put on cyclizine as the Promethazine didn't seem to be working and was making me really groggy, and I've eaten actual food (cheese sandwich over the course of an hour) and kept it down for the first time in weeks. Although the cyclizine is kind of stopping me sleeping! I spend a lot of time browsing recipe websites looking at meals that I'm looking forward to being able to eat.

I've been back at work doing full hours and actually at my desk rather than at home for the last few days, so things seem to be picking up.

Can I ask a question- is it normal to be experiencing stress incontinence along with the vomiting?

Oklahoma · 22/04/2017 07:48

Devil if you mean wetting yourself a bit when you puke then yes, that happens to most people at some point.

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/04/2017 08:24

@devil yes many wet theirselves when being sick - quite normal and make sure wear a pad

Also do Pelvic or may have same problem After giving birth

I was one of the few who didn't. I wear my Not pissing myself badge with pride 😉

DevilWearsPrimark · 22/04/2017 10:03

Thanks oklahoma and blondes, I was starting to wonder! I've been doing the exercises and wearing the pads etc, it was just starting to happen at the end of particularly bad episodes.

Lemondrop09 · 22/04/2017 10:14

Hi KatieGator, another woman braving HG for the second time! I really am in awe of anyone who can do this twice, especially with a toddler running around! I currently have no intention of doing this twice, even though I had always thought I'd have two children. I'll be surprised if you manage to make it back to work in just 10 days if you're feeling so rubbish now. I know I certainly wasn't going anywhere at 11 weeks, even though I felt a bit better, it wasn't enough that I could work. Are you on anything with the odansetron? It can be mixed with other drugs - at least two of us are on promethazine in combination with it.

Happy weekend everyone, I hope you all manage to enjoy it a little bit. I missed almost the whole of the last term of my Rock Choir and now it's broken up for Easter, so I've barely seen my friends there in months Sad They are singing at a local festival today. It's only one set (about 30 minutes) and DH is going to drive me there and pick me up - so I'm hoping I can manage it. I've missed my choir, it's a lot of fun. I'm going to stand on the end, near the back, so I can slip off if I feel the need to throw up Shock
