I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hi Haich. That sounds scary, sorry that happened. How are you feeling now?

Hollyhop17 · 01/05/2017 21:28

Sorry, also meant to say, if you feel at all worried, do call your midwife or out of hours unit. They would always rather you contacted them. Remind me how far along you are?

Lemondrop09 · 01/05/2017 21:43

Hi Haich. I have no experience as you are further along than me, but could it be round ligament pain? I know that can hurt as things stretch? Or did your pain hit more than that? Hope it's nothing to worry about

Friends have just gone, only threw up once and managed to leave the room so I didn't do it in front of them (not that they cared but I'd rather not). Tired now and not looking forward to working tomorrow

Hollyhop17 · 01/05/2017 21:54

Glad they came round but sorry you were sick. Do you really feel well enough to be at work? I found worrying about having to go in often made the nausea worse. Can you get signed off again?

If you do end up going in, I hope you take it as easy as possible. Hugs Lemon.

Lemondrop09 · 01/05/2017 22:03

Well I'm still WAH as there's no way I could make the hour long commute into central London, which is partly why I feel like I should suck it up, as I only have to roll downstairs. But concentrating when you feel rubbish is hard.

I'm going to see the GP next week, not about sickness, but I want this itchy skin checked and I want to ask for heartburn medication (as I'm sure it's make my vomiting worse). I'll see how things go, I could always ask to be signed off for a week if needs be.

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 01/05/2017 22:42

Haitch I had this once, extremely painful And very frightening.
I did get checked over, and all was well so I hope the same for you.
I would say if you are worried go and get checked, in my experience the midwives are happy to see you. And if nothing else I'm a worrier, and couldn't settle until I saw someone.
I hope you feel better now. X

Melleebacca · 02/05/2017 00:42

In my opinion (others may feel differently), round ligament pain is like mild cramps on the side of bump.
I carry low so get awful kicks to the cervix and that's a sharp pain.
Contractions are like cramps but feel like being in a vice. They will only last a couple of minutes usually to begin with.
And I never got Braxton hicks with DD, so I don't know about that.

Hubby is home, but I'm still so exhausted from 10 days of caring for DD, that we are spending the day at home, rather than playcentre. Had some major nausea yesterday and remembered just how well I've improved since the first trimester.

Waves to all.

Melleebacca · 02/05/2017 00:45

Lemon - sorry to hear about your friend. Probably another perk of living in NZ, no GP has ever denied me ondansetron, and my dad got a bundle of 100 tabs when he started chemo, just in case he needed them.

HaichM · 02/05/2017 07:32

I'm going to ring the midwife today and see what she says. I've had stretching pains in first trimester and it didn't feel like that, and I've been having stitch like pains in the side and top of my bump which I'm guessing is caused by baby pressing against the sides (though the movements are still felt in their usual place so I was gonna ask the mw about them next week). This wasn't like that either. It really felt like something was pulled and stretched that shouldn't be. I'll see what the mw says. All normal here this morning and managed to sleep without worrying too much.

Mellee: i hope you had a good time just chilling at home and are feeling a bit better.

Lemon: sorry you were sick with your friends round but glad they made it and it was only the once. I was told itchy skin could be a sign of dehydration so be careful.

Sorry if I've missed anyone else

Oddsocksforeveryone · 02/05/2017 08:04

@Haich in my last pregnancy I damaged my diaphragm from being sick so violently then baby kicked out one day and sent it into spasm. I was just walking into the living room. The pain was unreal, I actually thought I was having a heart attack or something. Could it have been that?
Sorry to comment and run in trying to get the hooligans to school but wanted to tell you.
Hope everyone is a well as can be today x

Oklahoma · 02/05/2017 09:08

Just checking in. Will catch up and reply to everyone later. Rubbish weekend but 11 weeks tomorrow. Just gotta keep on plodding along.

Hollyhop17 · 02/05/2017 10:47

FURIOUS. Just back from my GP who has point blank refused to prescribe ondansetron. My hospital also wont prescribe it. They both agree it is medically necessary but insist it is the others responsibility. I will run out tomorrow. Fully expect my mental health to crash as it has definitely made a difference. Just want to give up completely.

HaichM · 02/05/2017 10:57

Oh no Holly. I don't understand why they won't just give it to you. I would have thought the GP should since the hosp only gives you meds when you've been admitted (or so i thought). Is there not another dr at the surgery who will give it to you?

DeadDoorpost · 02/05/2017 11:23

First time pregnancy, 10 weeks 5 days so far and sick as anything. Dr prescribed cyclizine but it doesn't seem to be working anymore (been sick regardless of if I have the tablets or not) and getting the same replies from my parents when I tell them how I'm feeling ('itll be worth it in the end I promise'). Not exactly what you want to hear when you've thrown up 8 times and not managed to eat anything and have a killer headache at 1am as you're crying in the bathroom.

Only problem is that it seems to be hereditary for my family. Mum and nan were both severely ill for the whole pregnancy and I've been suffering since week 5. Should I be worried that the cyclizine isn't helping at all?

Hollyhop17 · 02/05/2017 11:24

I have seen two different ones and the one today is one of the partners. The PSS charity have given me the name of a consultant at my local hospital, where I am not giving birth, to get referred to. But how long that will take is anyones guess. How is this allowed?

pippanippa · 02/05/2017 11:30

How absolutely infuriating Holly - if GP can't (or more accurately won't) help can PALS maybe be of some help at the hospital? It's the only thing I can think of, or as Haich suggests maybe go to another GP surgery as a temporary emergency patient. Not sure where you're located, but if not maybe a walk-in centre. Or maybe the pregnancy sickness helpline could advise? I guess an alternative last resort would be to go see a dr privately and get a prescription that way, but that seems like ridiculous lengths to have to go to. Sorry not to be able to give more helpful advice, but I hope you can get a prescription soon. It's awful that you're having to fight for medicine that everyone agrees you need.

pippanippa · 02/05/2017 11:31

Sorry Holly - cross post.

pippanippa · 02/05/2017 11:34

DeadDoor - there are some other meds to try if cyclizine isn't working for you, so don't despair yet, might be worth another trip to the Dr.

It also seems to run in our family, mum, one of my sisters and my granny...always wondered if there's a connection!

pippanippa · 02/05/2017 11:53

Sorry DeadDoor, I should have said first of all, sorry to hear you've been so poorly!

DeadDoorpost · 02/05/2017 12:01

Thanks. I'm gonna try and get hold if someone as they shut our Drs surgery down yesterday nd haven't been told which one I should be going to (we're a part of 5 surgeries linked together) But with how bad it's been the last week I may end up going to the hospital.. weightloss has been rather drastic this week with little food being kept down over 7 days. Just a problem as husband is working and don't have anyone else nearby who can help atm.

satsoooma · 02/05/2017 12:25

Holly that is awful. can you move to another GP surgery?

Door there are plenty of other meds to try if cyclizine does not work. I'd definitely go back to your GP.

I've just taken my first ondansetron. Hoping I'll be able to start eating soon.

DeadDoorpost · 02/05/2017 13:00

Pippanippa and Satsoooma thanks.. Phoned 111 up and then my GP who's going to get back to me. They seem pretty concerned thankfully, especially as I'm not keeping fluids down at all

Lemondrop09 · 02/05/2017 13:07

Doorpost, if you're not keeping fluids down, you're likely dehydrated and might need to go in for a drip. Make sure your GP checks your urine (and if you're not passing much, try to hang on so you can give the Dr a specimen). As mentioned, there are definitely other things you can try. Cyclizine did nothing for me. The Pregnancy Sickness Support website and helpline are brilliant, do have a look. If it's any comfort, you will hopefully start to feel a little better as your first trimester passes. My symptoms are still very much hanging around, but I'm not bedbound any more like I was until about 12 weeks!

Holly..... there are no words Angry can your consultant or mental health team help resolve this? I know they were supposed to support you in this.

I'm having a "meh" sort of day. Violent vomiting before bed last night. No sick yet today but nauseous as hell and fighting bloody constipation again. It's exhausting and I can't wait to be able to log off from work and have a lie down. Really want a shower but haven't got the energy just yet!

Hollyhop17 · 02/05/2017 15:59

So the big solution is I have to come back to my hospital every two weeks for a refill and depending on which consultant I see, will depend on if I get another prescription. I had better hope that it miraculously goes within the next two weeks... Sorry for being self indulgent, I just feel like its all piling up again. My LO is measuring as big. He was 2pounds 14 ounces at my 28 week growth scan and is measuring at 31 weeks at my midwife appt today. They think it might be gestational diabetes and that is just the last thing I need. I have a severe needle phobia, so cant possibly imagine injecting myself at all, never mind everyday. I feel like what else can possibly go wrong with this pregnancy. Fed up doesnt even cover it.

Sorry to all having a bad day, apologies I am not a better online friend right now Sad

Lemondrop09 · 02/05/2017 16:14

Oh dear Holly, you are really getting out through the mill, aren't you.

Don't panic just yet. It might not be GD. Have you had your blood glucose test yet? I know a few people who've had GD and managed it through diet only (but trickier with HG) and one ended up on oral medication. So it's not a given that you would have to inject yourself. I'm sure this isn't any help to someone with a needles phobia but insulin needles are very fine and short.

I have no personally experience of growth scans etc as I'm not that far, but I've seen a ton of threads on MN saying how notoriously inaccurate the growth predications can be. So he might not be as far ahead as they think,

Obviously every mum just wants their baby to be growing at a healthy normal rate, but this might be a factor which helps if you still want to be induced a little bit early.

Deep breath Holly, you're nearly through one more day and you're another step closer along the tedious uphill struggle to the castle x
