I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

They can be a bit rubbish, but might be worth trying your CAB for free advice. It says here that you might be able to get legal aid for a discrimination issue

www.citizensadvice.org.uk/work/problems-at-work/what-help-can-i-get-with-a-problem-at-work/

Hollyhop17 · 27/04/2017 13:48

Thanks Lemon, will have a look.

Lemondrop09 · 27/04/2017 13:49

Also says here you'll need to talk to Acas about early conciliation first, which pauses the three month time limit. If you can pause it, that would really help because with any luck, you'll not have HG to contend with by then!

www.citizensadvice.org.uk/work/discrimination-at-work/taking-legal-action-about-discrimination-at-work/time-limits-for-making-a-discrimination-claim-in-the-employment-tribunal/

While I can absolutely see why you want to fight them on this, do look after yourself first though x

Hi One welcome (although hopefully you won't need to be here...). I had awful sickness with my daughter who is 2 and a half and it has taken me this long to muster up the courage to do it again. It's less of a shock this time but it is equally grim. I started taking meds the second I felt nauseous and while it hasn't stopped the sickness I have managed to stay out of hospital so far so it's definitely better to start early. Once you get to a certain level of sickness it's quite hard to get it back under control so it's best to prevent it in the first place. Let us know if you want advice on meds to ask for - lots of us have tried everything available with mixed success.

Oh Holly what a shitty day for you. I do agree with Lemon though. Try to see past the short term financial pain and think about how much happier you will be without this job you hate... hope the scan goes well

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 27/04/2017 15:50

Hi everyone.

You may have noticed I have been away for a while..... my last 2 days at work did not go well last week! I had to be admitted into my own hospital due to a ?PE and had a really low blood oxygen, so gave everyone (including me) quite a fright.
Lots of clot busters and oxygen later and I'm all better and home. But meant I didn't finish work properly which really stressed me out....

Maternity leave officially started on Monday, had lots of appointments, baby looking good. I have been booked for induction at 39 weeks (12th May), but they said it might be here sooner as baby is fully engaged already. Here's hoping!

Sickness wise I have been struggling again, but nowhere near as bad as the 1st 20 weeks. Sorry to read so many of you in that awful place.

My daughters surgery is next Wednesday, so would like to get past that before new baby arrives.

Waving to everyone, and hoping you have all had good days. Xxx

LucindaE · 27/04/2017 16:03

My unmentionable computer is playing up again and Mario the computer man is not in his repair shop...
Welcome to onedsrightnow. You've had great advice from Lemondrop and others. Sorry you suffered without meds before. Congratulations on being brave enough to go for it again. How do liquids stay down with you- it is certainly worth buying some kesostix from a chemists to check for the early stages of dehydration. Some things people find bearable are tinned fruit - peaches and pears especially, and its juice, sips of flat full sugar coke, soda water, elderflower water, lucozade, dr pepper, ice lollies, sips of chocolate milkshake - maybe soya - ice cubes, cheap ice cream nibbles of crisps, and some swear by cuppa soup and nibbles of crisps or jelly. All unhealthy as anything, sadly.
Hollyhop Goodness, what a lot of bs! That's awful - spying on your emails like that when you are ill. It sounds as if they are trying to make a case so that they can't be accused of sacking you for a pregnancy related condition - so slippery. Again, you have had great advice. Much sympathy. I am so glad you are signed off.
Melleebacca and Hollyhop I I agree, it is so grotesque to choose food according to that criteria. Also, it is advisable not to eat your favourite food, in case it gives you an aversion that last some time. Most aversions do go, but there are some that linger a long while. I still have one over iced gems all these years later...
Satsooma What an infuriating, condescending attitude! Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, eh? Your having an informed opinion is obviously a huge joke. Angry If this dr thought you were mistaken about metoclopramide being inadvisable to take for too long, why didn't he (I'm assuming he was male, but maybe not) explain why? Great advice from Lemondrop again.
Watch me cross post.

Goodness, Shirley you poor thing. I am so sorry you have had such a stressful condition, and your daughter's operation coming up. Much sympathy. I am sure they can manage at work with what you have done - I still feel indignant about that manager you said looked down her nose at your vomit stained trousers. Anyway, you must concentrate on yourself and your family - present and on the way. Cyber pats on offer.
Oklahoma You too deserve a medal for going for it again, and I too second how early treatment with 'pre-emptive meds' seems to by-pass that neurological thing with the brain getting used to vomiting.
Onedsrightnow and everyone- as below...

satsoooma · 27/04/2017 16:15

Sorry you had such a shit day holly. I agree that the CAB might be useful.

So far cyclizine is not super helpful. Might be my worst day so far. How long do y'all think I should keep at it for. What would be a sensible next step. Obviously not going to just take condescending GP's word for it.

onedsrightnow · 27/04/2017 16:20

Thanks everyone! I got a reprieve last time round from wk 21-23 :( Full fat coke and ice lollies for me through it! I'm in Ireland and they didn't really medicate in 2012 so fingers crossed if I need it this time I will get it! Great to have this support. Hugs to you both holly and Shirley, you are both having an awful time. Time to put those feet up now!

Lemondrop09 · 27/04/2017 16:29

Satsooma you'll know pretty quickly if it's not working. I went back to my GP within three days. Don't hang about

Goodness Shirley what a stressful time you've been having! Glad your doing better now and fingers crossed for baby eviction before 12 May. Ooh you're so close the being HG free! Hope your daughters operation goes well

LucindaE · 27/04/2017 18:05

Onedsrightnow That sounds a brutal policy. I hope you get meds this time.

Lemondrop09 · 27/04/2017 18:12

We need to add One on! One, when's your due date?

Oklahoma · 27/04/2017 18:56

And Satsooma.

It's ok Lucinda I know I'll get there. While still utterly grim it's easier mentally this time as I know I will survive it and it will go.

Satsooma any chance GP was laughing because you were asking for less strong meds and people don't normally do that? It's pretty poor of him either way. You'll know within a day or two if it's helping. I would ask to try stemetil (prochlorperazine) next and then ondansetron. The other antihistamine avomine (promethazine) works quite well too but tends to zombify people.

I'm on a combination of promethazine and ondansetron which does help.

Oklahoma · 27/04/2017 18:58

And if your GP won't give you drugs just ask to be referred to a specialist who will give them to you. Where do you live? Some areas are better than others at giving out drugs

Melleebacca · 27/04/2017 20:24

Holly - that's so awful. Big hugs. Hope everything went peachy at the growth scan.

Iamserious - all the best for your daughters surgery. Keep your legs crossed so little one comes afterwards.

Oneds - I completely agree with all Oklahomas advice. This is my second pregnancy (DD is 18 months), and I started taking meds as soon as I felt nauseous, and have managed to avoid hospital admission. My sickness has been almost identical the second time around. I got prepared by buying lots of bland foods as soon as I got my BFP and arranging lots of help for DD. Good luck!

Satsoooma - what an ordeal! Hoping the cyclizine works for you, but be prepared to head back in for stronger meds. Sounds like you're doing a great job advocating for yourself.

Lemon - Ive dropped to one ondansetron a day now and looks like that's fixed the constipation issue. Yay!

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/04/2017 21:20

@lemon soooooooooooooo agree with you about rice, many a time i said it was the worst thing ever to be sick on

every last fucking grain comes up!!!

HaichM · 27/04/2017 21:24

Holly: that's horrible. Surely they can't do that without having had your permission? I'm so sorry you've got this extra stress when you really don't need it.

Shirley: hope everything goes well with your daughter's surgery. My DS engaged at 32 weeks but didn't arrive until 39 so hopefully you will manage to wait until after the surgery.

Hi to the new ones and everyone else. I've had a rubbish day today, though not as bad as some of you but I've really not felt well. Managed the day at work but that's about it.

DevilWearsPrimark · 27/04/2017 21:55

Hi all been reading through everyone's posts, Holly, it seems like you're really having a dreadful time with your employers, here's hoping it can be resolved, and with as little stress as possible.
Lemon- I know what you mean about Pot Noodle and bland salty food! I've been eating chicken super noodles, they don't stay down, but they're exactly the same coming back up, so better than nothing (always seems like more come back up than I actually ate though...). I've not had rice, and given the comments here, I don't think I'll try it!
managed to drink a glass of water and throw it up three times, so came home from work. Managed to keep fluids down the rest of the day though, but was a bit worried this morning. I'm still taking the cyclizine and the effects seem to be wearing off, not sure if I should go back to GP or not.

Lemondrop09 · 27/04/2017 23:00

Ah ha ha Blondes, I am well off rice for the foreseeable. Yes Devil, do yourself a favour and steer clear!

That must be a relief Mellee. I'm down to about 2 odansetron a day plus a top up with promethazine when I have to (but trying so hard to avoid it as I hate being knocked out). I'm having a lot more success at keeping water down and I've recently taken to swigging lactulose directly out of the bottle. The combination of the two seems to have eased the constipation slightly lately.

After my totally crash on Tuesday, I've had two pretty good days. Not perfect, some nausea and dry wretching - but certainly the nearest I've come to feeling like my old self. I'd forgotten what that felt like!!! Of course I'm not expecting it to last, but Mother Hen will be pleased to hear that I have been making an active effort to NOT overdo it just because I'm feeling a bit better. Went to my Rock Choir class tonight and had a brilliant time, so that helped after I missed weeks and weeks of it. Hoping I don't crash again over the bank holiday.

Sorry to hear a few of you are having rough days. Fingers crossed tomorrow is better!

Hollyhop17 · 28/04/2017 10:20

Hi all, apologies for the long response. Going to try and catch up on everyone that I have rudely overlooked!

Mellee, thanks for the early Labour tips! Glad you've managed to drop down. How are you feeling today?

Welcome One, sorry you've had to join us. Any luck with meds?

I am serious, I am seriously jealous you're off on mat leave! How are you doing? Does not having to worry about work help slightly? I hope you say yes! I hope your DD surgery goes well, I'm sure it will.

Lucinda I am so upset at no chocolate, I already eat far less cheese just on the off chance I have a bad episode!

Satsooma, like Oklahoma I am also on ondansetron and promethazine. Has easily been the best combo for me. Fingers crossed it works for you.

Haich, how are you today? Hope you're having a better day.

So pleased to hear about Choir Lemon! Was it good to get out and about and see friends? Really glad you managed it.

Oklahoma, Devil and Lemon I hope you are all doing well today. Waves to anyone overlooked. I am back from the gp, signed off for two weeks which I am thrilled about. However, been sick this morning (probably stress related) and the fight for who will supply my rapidly dwindling of ondansetron rages on. So ups and downs. Hugs to all.

Lemondrop09 · 28/04/2017 10:24

Honestly Holly, I can't understand why you're having such trouble getting the odansetron still. It's ridiculous. My GP is renewing my prescription over the phone now. Yay for getting signed off though. Hopefully you'll feel better after some rest.

Hollyhop17 · 28/04/2017 10:47

Oh Lemon it is riduclous! The hospital told me in no uncertain terms they would only give 2 weeks and were annoyed at my GP. They gave me the prescription to give to my GP who told me in no uncertain terms this morning that she cant prescribe it. When I pushed, it seems she can but would get grief off of the CCG so said 'thats not going to happen'. So cue the end result a lot more stress for me as they fight each other on who will prescribe it...

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 28/04/2017 13:42

Holly that's madness about the ondansetron. Keep fighting, if its a that helps then it's what you need.
How are you feeling today?

Maternity leave is good thank you, not having the commute has proved a real help. Also nice to be around more for my daughter, although she's making me work pretty hard! X

Lemondrop09 · 28/04/2017 13:52

Has the GP seen the RCOG guidelines? Is there a different GP in the surgery you could see? You don't need any more hassle on top of everything else Hmm
