I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Yah fab for a 💙💙💙💙💙

Foods. Melon and ice lollies were the way to get liquid into me esp when had the heatwave in Aug /sept last year as couldn't stomach any food. Was think 12w then

Chicken cuppa soup was my saviour yet couldn't eat chicken 😂

Salt and vinegar crisps

Preggo sweets - very sour but worked

DevilWearsPrimark · 23/04/2017 14:42

Blondes- I'm not touching chicken as it's the worst thing on it's return journey! Definitely melon has been my favourite thing so far, as well as ready salted crisps.

Investing in some super-strength pads for work, it's bad enough at home but it's making me anxious to even drink at work (silly, I know!)

Lemon- lovely news about the scan

LucindaE · 23/04/2017 18:29

Mother Hen flaps back on, clucking. Blondes has been wonderful and funny, too, about crossed legs...Great advice from many others, too.
Welcome to Lapin347 and Keepingfingerscrossed. Both have had great advice already, and lapin sounds as if she is well up on pharmarcy also. Keepingfingerscrossed I am appalled that after suffering so badly - twice - your Dr's resisted all meds. Cyclizine has been used safely for going on four decades and many of the others have been widely used for a long time without any significant risk being found. I so agree with others,do ring PSS on 024 7638 2020 for advice on getting some meds this time. And you are working, my goodness. As Blondes says, kesostix are invaluable for testing for the early stages of dehydration.
I am glad that Hollyhop has got ondansetron and feels a little better, though sorry to hear of that exotic food's dramatic reappearance.
HaichM Mother Hen says - as usual - oh dear, you don't sound well enough to return to work, but you know best about if it is necessary. Was it Katemeister who was going back in ten days?
IAmSerious I am glad you took a day off- your workplace sounds really insensitive. Don't overdo it for them. Cheering you on.
Oklahoma I am sorry you are in the thick of it. Hugs. You will get there, and as Melleebacca says, seeing them playing together will make it worthwhile.
Lemondrop That bleeding from bowels sounds awful and I do hope they can reassure you about it.
Much sympathy to all feeling foul today and thanks for kind wishes.
On healthy foods, that's interesting about mango. I know some people find melon OK, though I believe HaichM had it infuriatingly recommended as a miracle cure. Fish fingers are I suppose, a healthy form of convenience food. I did OK with those sometimes...
Watch me cross post. Back soon.

Ah, and Devilwearsprimark Those pads sound a fine idea- will you take spares?

Hollyhop17 · 23/04/2017 18:53

Welcome back Mother Hen. Blondes was awesome in your absence. I hope you had a good few days away.

I have had a very good day today. Not been sick and only had a little bout of nausea this morning. I went to watch some of the marathon as a very dear friend was running it for the first time. I feel ok-ish now, but worried I might have overdone it. My back is killing me and I feel very, very tired... Still, today has been wonderful for my mental health.

Not looking forward to going back tomorrow to work! I hope everyone is ok, waves to all.

Lemondrop09 · 23/04/2017 19:00

Welcome back Mother Hen!

Glad you had a good day Holly Smile

LucindaE · 23/04/2017 19:00

Hollyhop Thank you and oh dear, I'd scrawled that message on my skim read through and couldn't read my own writing - you're going back to work too - I do hope it's on reduced hours - but they sound pretty bad, to be honest, so unfortunately, possibly not? If you get too ill again, don't hesitate to go home!

OP posts:
LucindaE · 23/04/2017 19:02

And thank you, Lemondrop. I hope you haven't climbed the Eiffel Tower in my absence?Grin

OP posts:
Hollyhop17 · 23/04/2017 19:23

Yeah they are awful, no chance of reduced hours. They were loathe to do it the first time for just a week. So definitely not sadly. I am just hoping to not be sick, it is so grim doing it at work...

Thank you Lemon, did you get an awesome pic from your scan today? Hope you're feeling a bit better.

HaichM · 23/04/2017 20:59

Lemon: congrats on your DS and hope the choir and singing went well.

KatieG: please don't rush back to work. Tiredness and movement can make HG so much worse, not to mention stress and guilt.

Keeping: sorry to hear you're 3 for 3 and really struggling. I think one of the symptoms of HG is that it makes one feel like the pregnancy lasts for ages. I'm almost 26 weeks and it feels waaay longer than that.

Holly: sorry you're non-puking streak ended but glad on the whole you're still managing to stay a bit more positive. I think having something to look forward to, especially if it can involve friends, is a great idea. I think it's the only reason my mental health has been more on the +ve side this time, tho I haven't seen friends very often (I had manicures and so on to get out of the house and be pampered). I like the idea of the calendar and think I will see if I can print something at work tomorrow to cross off every night.

HaichM · 23/04/2017 21:13

Lucinda: tbh I am quite worried about returning to work again. I was so rough the week before the Easter hols while there and then have not had as many 'good' days without needing to lie on the sofa or have a very early night during the hols as I had hoped. I really don't think I will make it through the next 5 weeks of full time (even if it is actually pnly 20+ hrs). I'm not too worried about tomorrow, so we'll see how it goes.

I'm going to ring the drs tomorrow and make an appt re: right leg and buttock going numb fairly frequently.

Mellee: I hope things are going OK with DD

Hi and well wishes to everyone, I hope there've been some good weekends enjoyed and I look forward to hearing from you all

keepingfingerscrossed · 23/04/2017 21:34

Thank you everyone for the awesome tips, advice and lovely welcome. Even though this is my third HG pregnancy I have learned so much here already.

Starting to feel quite cross about the medication issue now it seems there is much less concern than my doctors have previously indicated. Definitely phoning pregnancy support tomorrow.

Blondes - ordered some of the testing sticks. Thank you xx

Sorry not been on much today. Bad day today. Couldn't really move until about 4pm then went for a walk with the little ones - just so I have actually spent time with them not stuck in the house albeit briefly - and nearly passed out. Straight back to bed when back in. No idea how I am going to get into work tomorrow. Just going to take it ten mins at a time. So worried. Hope tomorrow is better for you all. X

Oklahoma · 23/04/2017 21:59

Keeping you really don't sound like you should be going to work tomorrow! When you speak to your GP can you ask them to sign you off?

KatieGator · 24/04/2017 06:53

Sorry to everyone who had a rubbish day yesterday (and well done HollyH for getting out!).

I'm up watching cartoons with 2 yo to let poor old husband get a little bit of sleep (he's looking pretty burnt out!).

Discovered 2 things yesterday. Firstly, I can actually drink ginger cordial and fizzy water - amazing. Secondly, potato gnocchi might seem like the perfect bland meal but they are the worst coming back up...

Hoping for a better day for you all today.

Lemondrop09 · 24/04/2017 08:14

Holly - No I got some odd scan photos! The normal pics were ok but pretty blurry. She did a genital shot which I don't understand lol. I'm happy to know it's a boy, I'm not sure I need a photo of his little boy bits too prove it. Let's just say I have no plans to frame it! She also did a free 3Dscan preview, which didn't really work as baby had his hands in front of his face. Tbh, I find those 3D shots a bit creepy anyway, even the sonographer said she thought babies looked cuter in 2D at this stage! It was nice to see her point out the little hands and stuff and I loved hearing the heartbeat.

Midwife appointment for me today. Don't think I'll have any problem peeing in a pot for her as I must have got up 8 times last night to wee! I'm knackered. Never had this problem before, but now I'm keeping more liquids down, I can't stop peeing. I thought it was supposed to ease off in the second trimester!

Hope everybody has a better week this week.

Keeping - You reeeeeeeally don't sound ready to be back at work...

Lemondrop09 · 24/04/2017 10:24

Midwife appointment was fine although I forgot to take my medication before going so was dry heaving by the time I got home. Receptionist made me feel great by remarking "Oh! You're only 16 weeks". Yes I am fat, thanks for pointing that out!!! Midwife got the Doppler out and baby was kicking up a merry storm, she thinks it won't be long until I can start feeling movement Grin The last few days have been good for me as it's be hard to see past the HG cloud but our baby is finally staring to feel real now, which makes it all worthwhile. Just having a bit of a lie down now until my pills kick in then going to log on and try and do some work.

Hollyhop17 · 24/04/2017 13:06

Glad your appt went well. Dont worry about the comments, I was pretty porky before I got pregnant and look huge now, so constantly have to deal with people saying 'oh really, you're only X weeks pregnant?' Hope you start to feel movement soon. It is really lovely but comes with a new set of worries, have they bloody moved enough!

Keeping how are you doing back at work? I was ok this morning, but feeling pretty ropey now :( I've just got a plain sandwich so hoping it stays down and helps with the nausea. I am just bloody knackered as well. Got a meeting on Thursday to find out what they are doing about my contract, as it currently ends while I'm on mat leave. Hate it here so want to leave but need to be made permanent as we need to remortgage in the summer which I think will be near on impossible if I am not employed beyond September...

Waves to all, hope you're having good days.

LucindaE · 24/04/2017 17:02

Hollyhop I am glad work wasn't as bad as it might have been, but Mother Hen is concerned at all those forcing themselves back to work before they are ready - you, HaichM KatieGator Keeping and others. It's awful, too, needing a job but detesting it, even when you feel well. They have been pretty mean to IAmSerious as well...
KatieGator Sorry about reappearing potatoes!
Lemondrop I am glad the scan gave you a boost.
Keeping I hope the discussion with PSS was helpful?
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked or with whom I've cross posted.

Lemondrop09 · 24/04/2017 17:11

Ergh that sounds stressful Holly. I can relate to that feeling too. I'm sooooo fed up with my job (which is sad because I used to quite enjoy it before new management destroyed it. On one hand, I'm not too worried if I get made redundant because I really don't want to work for them any more. On the other hand, I really could do without the stress of job hunting while I have a new baby. Do you have a union rep or anyone you can take with you? If they don't renew your contract, they'll have to be very careful to ensure their reasons do not relate to your pregnancy and associated sickness or they'll be on very shaky ground.

Work was ok-ish today. I actually think my heart burn was making me throw up, I've vomited less since starting the gaviscon. Still dry heaving though Hmm My big achievement today is that I pooped. I'm really proud of myself, how sad is that???!! Grin

Hollyhop17 · 24/04/2017 17:35

Wasnt sick at work today so taking that as a victory! The nausea wasnt great this arvo, but it has been much worse in the past so felt manageable. I think they are going to be in a really difficult position with my contract, they clearly hate me and want rid, but since I won my grievance against them, and part of that was pregnancy related I hope they are thinking again. I am going to ring ACAS beforehand so I am armed with facts and if it doesnt go well, Ill bring my DH to another meeting. He has been before (during the grievance process) and was a massive help. Fingers crossed...

Thrilled you've been to the loo! In all seriousness I know how painful it is and how much it affects you. Did the GP give you something better than lactulose or did nature finally take its course?

I know Lucinda, but sadly money is a big factor for me! I am out of full time sick pay and half way through half pay. I constantly worry about them finding some 'legitimate' way of getting rid of me...

I hope others who struggled in today have managed ok. Waves to all.

HaichM · 24/04/2017 18:49

Great news Lemon, I understand how it can feel like a massive achievement. I have a similar reaction sometimes. My scan pic is blurry as baby wouldn't stay still.

Holly: glad you weren't sick. Hope it keeps up. Try and get some rest while you can. My day today wasn't too bad either. The bus was not good and took me a little while to recover from. My SPD was the worst thing today. Really painful.

Hope everyone else is having an OK day today.

Melleebacca · 24/04/2017 19:42

Hi All, it's awful hearing about all the job stresses and potential redundancies. Is it really that common in the U.K. at the moment?

DD and I are surviving without hubby, but only just. Dog has only had one walk so far, whoops. DD is definitely teething, which isn't too bad but makes her super clingy at night. She would sleep on top of me if I let her. Rough nights here - went to sleep at 7.30 last night.

Looks like I'm out of the vomiting woods, and am currently weaning down to one ondansetron a day. Hopefully I will be able to poop freely soon.

LucindaE · 24/04/2017 21:14

Sounds awful, those who are battling on at work. Well, Hollyhop I am so glad that you had help from ACAs in winning a grievance. Melleebacca the employment situation isn't ideal at the moment, lots of short term contracts and job insecurity.
Lemondrop Acid vomits are awful - and the acidity certainly exacerbates the vomiting. I didn't find Gavescon effective myself - though my GP insisted that it was the only safe anti acid in pregnancy it frankly isn't true- there's the Omprazole Blondes suggested and Ranitidine, and I believe they can be bought over the counter? MotherofPearl found that her vomits really improved with one of those.
Much sympathy to all.

OP posts:
Lemondrop09 · 24/04/2017 22:23

Thanks Lucinda. I don't want to bother the GP just over acid reflux but I will ask about those medications when I find myself there again or when I need to contact them for a repeat odansetron prescription.

Mellee - I'm public sector and the cuts have finally started to bite Sad Our entire London office is being whittle down to almost nothing and the jobs shipped up North where they plan to employ less experienced staff on half the wage. Sad to see the service destroyed. I'm just hoping to still be able to wangle my mat pay, but we'll see.... Great news you might be out of the vomity woods and all hail the ability to poop freely again! Hope you get some sleep tonight.

So tonight I learned that vomiting rice out of your nose is the most disgusting thing ever. I'll just leave you with that image..... goodnight ladies!
