Yay congratulations pingu and stalphon. Rally good to hearSmileFlowers. And quick births too. Can i ask... what number birth were they? This will be no 3 for me but after a10 year gap I've heard it's like first time again....

StAlphonzospancakebreakfast · 30/10/2017 18:30

Number 3 for me, the gap between her and the next youngest is 5yrs. It's like riding a bike 😳😂

PingusMistress · 31/10/2017 01:28

Thank you all. Number 2 for me with a three year gap. It was like a speeded up version of my first. Definitely much easier second time around.

Ekphrasis · 31/10/2017 11:06

Sorry I missed your announcement @StAlphonzospancakebreakfast! Congratulations to you also!

Monkeypuzzle32 · 31/10/2017 12:26

This is my first so I'm just guessing as I go along, the midwife asked me if I'd done my hospital bag yesterday-hope it's not a case of she's knows something I don't ! 😆

Karigan1 · 21/01/2018 18:00

Sorry guys but just starting ttc at 40 and seeing so many of you having little ones gives me hope so just jumping in for a minute to get a little optimism :)

Monkeypuzzle32 · 21/01/2018 20:32

Aah! found the thread again, well Karigan1, I'm sitting here with my 5 week old DD so yes, there is hope x

Karigan1 · 21/01/2018 21:23

Thanks Karigan1, congrats AnUtterIdiot.
Karigan, are you TTC ?

Karigan1 · 22/01/2018 08:59

Yes. But the ttc post 40 thread was getting me down so I thought I’d see how many 40 plus ladies actually got there. It was worth it. Quite a few it seems :)

User45632874 · 22/01/2018 10:25

Hi Karigan
Expecting dc3 (a little girl)
30+5 days
43 (very nearly 44)
DC's aged 11 and 4 - gave birth to dd2 when I was just shy of 40 this was despite being told by a consultant that I was unlikely to have any more children after dd1 (low amh/high fsh). Somehow defied the odds with dd2 and hopefully dd3.
Late loss at 41 - little boy at 20 weeks. This has not been an easy pregnancy for obvious psychological reasons and will be my last pregnancy whichever way it turns out.

Ekphrasis · 22/01/2018 10:26

Hi Karigan, I found the thread helpful at the time. 24 weeks now and almost 41.

I think everyone is different; my cycles are regular but I think our dna wasn't great (two mc). I did follow advice in it starts with the egg (Dh too), tracked obsessively on FF. Took Eve primrose till ovulation and a little extra folate? Plus pregnacare. I'm hypothyroid so made sure that was good.

I believe many women here found some exercise helped, not going crazy but regular aerobic exercise of some sort. I personally think yoga is also good too.

How are things monkey and anutter? Lovely to hear from you.

Monkeypuzzle32 · 22/01/2018 11:13

Ekphrasis we are all good thanks-can't believe I've actually got a DD after all these years, I ended up having an emergency c section as my waters had broke but she hadn't engaged after 24 hours, not what I wanted but in the circumstances this decision was based on evidence rather than hospital protocol so I was happy.
Karigan, so much depends on what you've explored so far-fertility checks, previous dc etc, my DD is donor egg as I have blocked tubes and time was getting near the end for me, so this was our best chance of actually achieving a successful pregnancy-don't rule anything out at this stage. Are you going private or NHS?

Karigan1 · 22/01/2018 11:57

I’ve not really explored any of that yet. Went to get my thyroid checked just after I stopped the pill and the over keen dr did fertility tests. All was fine apart from progesterone which is lowered by the pill so really that was as expected too. Going to go back next month if nothing happens. Already got a son and had no problems conceiving him so shouldn’t have blocked ovaries etc. But time will tell.

Things are only just getting back on track post pill so was going to give it two cycles then go see the dr.

Secondsop · 23/01/2018 16:16

Hello, can I join this thread? I’m 7 weeks pregnant with my 3rd, and am 42. A bit of a surprise pregnancy as although we haven’t been using contraception, it’s 3.5 years since my last child so I had assumed I was past it.

weasledee · 24/01/2018 08:22

Hi second, congratulations! What a surprise! :) how old are your other children? :)
I was trying for my third last year (im 41) but had a couple of losses. We may try again this year :)

Secondsop · 24/01/2018 18:22

Hi @weasledee , thank you. My other children are 5 and 3.

Secondsop · 30/01/2018 10:49

Hi all, unfortunately I am miscarrying at 8 weeks. I don’t know whether to try again afterwards or draw a line under it all. I’m 42. How do you make that kind of decision?

Monkeypuzzle32 · 30/01/2018 11:43

Secondsop sorry to hear this-I assume that's a definite? Hope Im not being insensitive but you can appear to be MC but the pregnancy survives?
At 42, Id try again, this isn't necessarily due to age-maybe push to get some checks or go private if that's an option-don't give up if you want another unless there's an underyling reason.
Weaseldee fingers crossed for you.

Secondsop · 31/01/2018 08:59

@Monkeypuzzle32 I think so - I’m a bit unsure exactly what they saw , not sure if they saw a heartbeat (there was one at 6 weeks), there were some muttered references to fetal pole and checking the sac measurements with last time and they said it wasn’t what they expected to see at 8 weeks. I don’t have any symptoms of miscarriage except for some (but not complete) loss of symptoms I guess. No bleeding. I need to decide whether to go and get the pills.

I think Age is likely to be a factor but not entirely determinative as I had a miscarriage when younger too and my children were born when I was 38 and 39 so my eggs were still good then. Perhaps I’ll just see how it goes again. I did have a chemical in August, and earlier last year had what I suspect would have been another chemical had I tested.

kitty1013 · 31/01/2018 09:06

Secondsop- I'm so sorry to hear this . Surely they needed to be a clearer that there's no hope, not just "it's not what they expected ".

I really sympathise, I MC at 8 weeks twice when I was 42. My early scans were progressively more behind dates and both times I MC naturally a couple of days after scans showed no growth since previous scan.

I am now 6+1 and 44....just waiting anxiously for a scan next Friday to see if once again they utter those words "it's too small" "can't see a heartbeat " etc.
Hope you are ok.
Don't give up on TTC. I'm way older than you :)
Kitty x

Monkeypuzzle32 · 31/01/2018 09:13

That's a bit vague Secondsop but doesn't sound good sadly. It might be worth seeing a specialist even if privately-my friend kept having MCs and saw a specialist once who gave her injections, her next pregnancy survived so if you want another baby I'd say don't waste anytime-that's honestly coming from experience !
Kitty fingers crossed for this one.

Secondsop · 31/01/2018 09:23

Thanks @kitty1013 and @monkeypuzzle32 for the kind words. I guess women have always had children at our ages haven’t they, but in the past it would be their (eg) 10th, like my great granny who had 12 children, god help her!

Monkeypuzzle32 · 31/01/2018 10:45

Yes Secondsop that's true but it's no ones business but yours -some will criticise me, but unless they've known what it's like to not be able to have children or suffered losses then they can't comment imo .
