I have discovered that the key to not feeling horribly nauseous is eating pretty much constantly.

Today i have had:

2 pieces toast with marmite
Yogurt
Handful Ritz crackers
2 cheese crispy pancakes (which i thought would be nicer than they tasted)

Fancy quiche and jacket potato for tea. And some mint poppets. Hmm...poppets...

Er nh101 I think there was a virtuous thread a few days ago, perhapos you could revive it... Yes we all know it's unhealthy to eat chocolate, crisps and rubbish. Perhaps we should have turkey twizzlers too, as we'll spend the rest of our lives telling the little one that they shouldn't eat them?

I've eaten:

muesli and organic yogurt with blueberries.
Herbal tea.

decaf cappuccino

Sandwich of turkey, ham, salad. Fizzy water, one bottle.
Organic bar with apricot and some other stuff in it.

Cup of tea from machine at work.

Not doing too badly I guess.

tokentotty · 07/03/2007 15:36

Honey2theb - where d'you get turkish delight flavour ice cream....?????

nh101 · 07/03/2007 16:03

"Yes we all know it's unhealthy to eat chocolate, crisps and rubbish."

Why eat it then? It's cr*p!

tokentotty · 07/03/2007 16:06

It's not totally unhealthy imo. As far as I'm concerned, everything in moderation, or in other words 'a little of what you fancy does you good'.

zephyrcat · 07/03/2007 16:08

I've just had to pop into the shop on the way home form school for a sugar fix and found a Crunchie Ice cream..........Mmmmmmm! Could be the start of a new addiction!!

honey2theb · 07/03/2007 16:09

Tokentotty - i got it from tesco! it has yummy little choccy bits in it. mmmmm i'll look at the make for you when i get home i'll have to eat it all then though.

MrsBadger · 07/03/2007 16:09

Because given the levels of nausea some of us have we're lucky to keep anything down, let alone virtuous porridge!

(And potatoes fried in vegetable oil and chocolate made with milk and cocoa are actually nourishing - it's not like it's an aspartame and E-number laden FruitShoot, eh? )

tokentotty · 07/03/2007 16:14

I hear ya Mrs Badger...!!

Ooooh honey....seriously ? Tesco ?? I absolutely luuuurve turkish delight and must now try this fabled ice-cream

naturelover · 07/03/2007 16:22

I've always had a really sweet tooth and certainly haven't gone off my daily 2-3 squares 70% Lindt while pregnant, but I've been really craving salty food, in particular marinated/pickled food (olives, artichoke hearts, gherkins), soy sauce, veggie sushi, anything in teriyaki sauce, tofu... Discovered marmite flavour rice cakes the other day and couldn't get through the packet fast enough - yet I never eat marmite!

Fortunately am also craving fruit & veg esp Seville oranges and lime-flavoured things. Fruit is my favourite food group anyway and I'm glad my appetite for this hasn't diminished.

I have to admit I'm a bit of health nut and I hate the idea of putting on too much weight. By week 12 had gained 2 pounds. Now at 15 weeks and haven't weighed myself since week 12.

TeeCee · 07/03/2007 16:26

Eek not a good day today.

Breakfast was a Danish swirl thing
Packet of salt and vinegar hula hopops on the way back from my meeting, I craved the s&v
lunch was a tuna mayo and salad bagette that has made me feel sick
a bottle of water

dinner will be salmon linguine
and the end of the bag of giant chocolate buttons!

MrsBadger · 07/03/2007 16:27

the old wives' tale says that craving salty things means it's a boy...

tokentotty · 07/03/2007 16:31

Really ? And does sweet things supposedly equal a girl ?

MrsBadger · 07/03/2007 16:33

allegedly

it's all rubbish though

tokentotty · 07/03/2007 16:38

Oh I know that, just haven't heard a lot of these type of old wives tales and they're funny.

honeyapple · 07/03/2007 16:55

cheddar cheese biscuits... soooo mooorrishhh...

peanuthead · 07/03/2007 17:08

nh101 - did you have morning sickness??
obviously not.

as someone who lived on organic food and a virtuous and healthy diet for the last 15 years it was a bit of a shock to discover I could only get down junk food the minute I was pregnant... beef hula hoops/cheesy wotsits ie the worst kind of chemical crisps, sausage rolls - god only knows what's in them, I daren't think, couldn't get a piece of fruit or veg into me till 12 weeks. At 15 I'm just starting to be able to eat normally again.

yes I did start off worrying about what was going into my baby but soon realised better to eat what I could than worry too much about healthy eating till the ms was gone.

I think we all realise it's not good to be eating junk food and are looking for some reassurance rather than condemnation.

nh101 · 07/03/2007 17:22

No I didn't have morning sickness but is everyone on this thread under 12 weeks pregnant? Doubt it. I just think it is too easy to start eating junk using PG as an excuse when it is the most important time to eat healthily.

I'm not condemning anyone, it's a free country and millions of babies have been born quite healthily after a diet of rubbish in PG. I just thought I would mention it, give people food for thought (pardon the pun) - maybe instead of that packet of Poppeets they could have a pineaple tonight?

I'm not going to reassure people doing something that is unhealthy. But everyone can go ahead and eat whatever they like!

peanuthead · 07/03/2007 17:28

Um, not everyone on this thread is eating rubbish.

And morning sickness goes on beyond 12 weeks.

(off to eat houmous on toast - is that ok?)

MrsBadger · 07/03/2007 17:30

Not everyone on this thread is less than 12weeks, but nor does m/s stop magically at 12+1...

[rubs hands evilly and waits for nh101 to get irrestistable cravings for Cheesey Wotsits, Frazzles, Skittles and FruitShoots in her 3rd trimester ]

nh101 · 07/03/2007 18:02

Ha ha - you guys will be the first to know if I do!

laksa · 07/03/2007 18:10

nh101, no diet is perfect and I'm sure everyone is doing their best on the fruit and veg front. I'm sure even your diet isn't perfect. Tuna and salmon contain high levels of mercury which some (in my opinion slightly radical) dieticians advise not to eat at all through pregnancy...most just say not to eat too much per week. My friend is a dietician and says eating a little of what you fancy is fine!

MrsMar · 07/03/2007 18:12

Detentiongirrrl - sorry for delay in replying, bloomin' work gets in the way of chatting!! I know, I nearly fainted when he said 1000 cals a day! Mind you typical man, kept going on about being sedentary, he hasn't had to spend every hour when not at work running around the house cleaning, cooking, washing, ironing etc etc etc!!! Probably so rich he has cleaners do all that!

I have really cut down on the animal products, I was eating meat about 4 times a week, nothing terrible, usually organic lean meat, but I didn't realise how much fat there was in there, so I'm down to twice a week, one portion red and one portion white.

As for the choc/crisps/cakes debate, I think if you're eating a healthy diet I don't see why not, so long as you're getting the correct nutrition as well. Mind you, the calorie issue is another thing totally. I've given up chocolate for lent, but come Easter I will be eating it again, not every day, but a treat once a week. I don't think my baby will suffer too much. It's all about balance isn't it?

laksa · 07/03/2007 18:17

sorry nh101, that came across a bit harshly. Just a bit sensitive as I find people keep telling me what I can and can't eat all the time as if its not my body. Of course I want to eat healthily but if the only thing I can keep down is junk food I figure that is better than nothing.

I started out in this pregnancy trying to eat the perfect diet...I had a berry and banana smoothie every day but when MS struck I threw it up and just couldn't face the thought of one at all. I have no appetite for fruit at all Am trying to shovel the fruit and veg down now that MS is easing but it is not always easy.

bumperlicious · 07/03/2007 18:40

When I had morning sickness, which lasted till about 15/16 weeks, I could go near fruit or vegetables, all I could eat was stodgy and sugary foods. I went from a model diet, where my favourite snack was sultana bran, to complete junk and the only cereal I could face was coco pops! When you have ms you just have to eat what you can. For me there was no choice in it, if I fancied pie and mash I had to eat pie and mash, and damn quickly too!

I'm trying to get back on a healthy eating regime but it's difficult, your body just needs different things. I thought that my body would crave healthy food but it didn't. So as long as you go back to healthy eating afterwards, and don't feed your child junk, I don't think it matters what you eat when pg coz the baby will just take what it needs and leave you with the rest. How I'm going to deal with looking 6 months pg 6 months after the birth is a different story! But one I just don't have the energy to deal with right now!

Ceolas · 07/03/2007 18:42

Am nearly 16 weeks. Today have had Shredded Wheat Fruitful and slice of toast. Out for lunch and had breaded mushrooms and penne napoletana. Apple and banana this afternoon. Soup for tea.
