Morning sickness + work. Help...

Im currently 6weeks 4 days and morning sickness has just set in. (Well night time sickness). It starts at tea time and doesnt go til im asleep. Im not actually being sick but feeling it.

Anyway. I work 3 nights a week and the sickness feeling doesnt go away at all and i struggle to concentrate on my job while im feeling so crap.

Any tips on how to ease it? Ive tried Ginger biscuits, sucking mints, dry toast and not eating a big evening meal.

Thankyou

It's really tough. Not very helpful but nothing really eased mine except resting at home until it eased off. Can you work from home for a week or two?

PlayOnWurtz · 07/03/2017 20:52

Seabands!

Cantstanddisney · 07/03/2017 20:58

Mint tea and a box of ritz crackers. Avoid anything strong smelling.

Pancaker · 07/03/2017 20:59

Salted pretzels and apple juice worked for me

lizi311 · 07/03/2017 23:14

Oneiroi- i work in a residential home so unfortunately cant work from home.

Thanks guys. Im going to give these a try...willing to try anything at moment.

Sour sweets. Crystallised gunger

nursebickypegs · 07/03/2017 23:58

Freeze Gatorade, lucozade, vitamin water... suck on the ice cubes. Eat something salty too... that helped me. If it's getting too much, discreetly tell your manager/night nurse so they understand if you're a bit groggy.

lizi311 · 08/03/2017 00:01

I cant drink lucozade. Anything sugary makes me feel worse 😕 im avoiding telling the senior cos everyone at work loves abit of gossip and i dont want the pregnancy announcing until 1st scan shows alls okay x

I found freezing my favourite fizzy drink helped; I froze Coke into cubes. When I couldn't do that, i had gingerbread men and lemonade. Weird but it worked.

Yes, my workplace loves gossip as well! What care place doesn't.

lizi311 · 08/03/2017 00:16

Ooh i think ill try freezing some cherry pepsi max 😁

Thats very true. Gossip spreads like wildfire amongst my co-workers. I moved from day shifts to night shifts and they still manage to get the gossip to us night shift staff 😂

Ooh that sounds amazing!!! I never was sick, only felt sick. Work I was fine, but I told a manager as I had lost 2 babies before and I was worried that it might happen again.

It's 'cos they haven't got anything else to do! I loved doing nights though and miss it loads.

lizi311 · 08/03/2017 00:35

Yeah i deffo prefer nights. Still very busy but only 2 of us on a time and the night staff are lovely. Moving from days to nights is deffo the best decision i ever made x

It is so difficult in that early stage when you don't want to publicise the pregnancy but you are feeling so ill. I do hope some of the tips people have given work for you and it passes before long.

lizi311 · 08/03/2017 07:44

Thankyou oneiroi. Im going to give them a go

Sparkling water worked for me. Also very salty snacks to nibble on seemed to ease it. Especially mine came with too much spit so the salty food dried it up. I ate half a pack of pork scratchings everyday for 6wks! I lost a bit of weight still as I couldn't eat much else. I also had a couple of weeks where I ate lots of fresh mango and it helped.

Writerwannabe83 · 08/03/2017 09:32

I ended up being off work for 5 weeks due to sickness. It started two weeks after I got my BFP and lasted until I was about 14 weeks pregnant. I did wear travel sickness bands and I do think they helped. I'm 16+2 now and I only dared take them off about two days ago Smile

KoolKoala07 · 08/03/2017 09:41

I'm also 6+4 and the sick feeling set in for me about 3 days ago. I wake up feeling sick, but its subsided by early afternoon. I've quickly worked out for me that I mustn't be hungry. The hungrier I feel the more sick I feel, but because I feel sick I don't want to eat. I have forced myself to eat though and felt much better. As the food wears off I start to feel sick again. I'm self employed on a one to one basis with clients so never normally take lunch breaks but I'm going to start so that I can refuel without leaving it too late. I'd be happy if this stays as a sick feeling, As I don't want to have to explain to clients yet why I'm running to the loo regularly.

lizi311 · 08/03/2017 09:48

Sounds like a good idea koolkoala. I work nights so dont really have much more than toast to eat over the 10hours im at work. I dont eat from 5pm til 4am. Im thinking of taking something to snack on to see if it helps cos sometimes i feel sick but my tummy feels empty. Although eating doesnt always help 😕 ive heard alot about eating something salty so think im guna take a bag of pretzels to work with me x

Two things that helped me the most during this pregnancy were plain egg noodles with a little salt, and also no to morning sickness tea. Everybody says saltines, but I couldn't choke them down!

vfoster · 09/03/2017 07:30

I agree with a PP about the anti travel sickness bands. Only problem is explianing why you're wearing them!
I also bought something called 'preggy pop drops' from Amazon. They are boiled sweets but seemed to work for me

KoolKoala07 · 09/03/2017 10:51

I've found salty stuff helps! And carbs (not so good for my waistline though) Grin

silkybear · 09/03/2017 16:33

Currently off work with it at the mo, if you can eat something small every couple of hours it keeps the sickness just about tolerable. Crisp sandwiches, plain chicken noodles, r whites lemonade ice lollies, chips with lots of vinegar, salted popcorn are my best things to stave off sickness. Not healthy but salty carbs works. I know from last pregnancy that i will want veg & healthy things again soon! :) I have the seabands but they haven't worked for me so far.

PlayOnWurtz · 09/03/2017 16:44

Say you have an ear infection or vertigo...

MyMrKnightley · 09/03/2017 17:05

Eat little and often

Suck mints

Try and rest morning sickness gets worse with exhaustion

Realistically are you going to get to your 12 week scan without people working it out? I definitely wouldn't of made it as I was sick multiple time a day, I was glad I'd told my boss before anyone worked it out. If anything was wrong they'd find out anyway as you'd need so time off then.

LorimerPam · 09/03/2017 17:37

I had HG through both pregnancies and worked 12 hour shifts it was awful so I sympathise. For me I needed to try and snack on stuff pretty much constantly those dey breakfast biscuits were perfect and sips of fruit juice for the sugar. Tell your boss! I suffered in silence for too long but letting work know as soon as you can makes it a lot easier as they can look and see what measures they can take to help. Also rest up at home more than you think you want to-i kept trying to do too cuh but a few days of relaxing help a lot! Sending you lota o best wishes and hope it eases soon x
