Me and my husband are so desperate for another baby. Only problem is after my first I I gained a lot of weight 🙁 so at the moment I am unable to conceive. I have tried so hard to lose this unwanted weight, I walk around 5 miles a day and watch what I eat and just can't shift it. I have PCOS also but the doctor said it won't affect me not being able to lose it.
I don't know what to do!

What do you eat in an average day? Do you have a food diary you can share with us?

It's quite likely you're eating more than you think you are.

leh92 · 13/02/2017 18:07

I don't have a food diary but in the morning I have a cup of tea then after the school run have a piece of fruit for my breakfast or some toast. Lunch I normally have a soup and then a normal dinner

When you say normal dinner what do you mean?

You need to start tracking your calories so you can find out what you're actually taking in. My fitness pal is a great start.

In general lots of healthy protein (chicken, eggs etc), LOADS of veg (less fruit), healthy and small small portions of carbs, even good ones like brown bread etc.

leh92 · 13/02/2017 18:12

Normally grilled chicken, rice, vegetables etc. I always watch my portion sizes.
I have lost nearly 2 stone but just can't seem to shift anymore. I won't be giving up, just feel like I'm going wrong somewhere

So for e.g.

Breakfast: Poached egg and avocado, or porridge. Something that fills you up.

Lunch: salad with protein (so tuna, chicken or egg salad for example)

Dinner: Piece of grilled or steamed meat with a large portion of veg and perhaps a very small portion of carbs but in general I'd try to stay away from too many starchy carbs of an evening

Drink LOADS of water. At least 2 litres of water a day and probably more if you're really overweight.

Snacks should be things like veggie sticks, nuts (plain nuts, small portions only), hard boiled eggs...

Hatemylifenow · 13/02/2017 18:13

If you've hit a plateau you could try low carb high fat, that's always worked fantastically for me. Or 5:2, where you fast for 2 days per week.

Hatemylifenow · 13/02/2017 18:14

Also how big are your portions?

toffeeboffin · 13/02/2017 18:17

You need to use MFP.
You're obviously eating too much, otherwise you'd lose weight.

What height and weight are you? MFP will calculate how many cals you need to lose or maintain.

Make sure you weigh and measure portions too : they are surprisingly small, especially pasta and cereal for example.

leh92 · 13/02/2017 18:18

Will give it a try! My portions are no bigger than a lunch plate. I feel that if I use a smaller plate then it fills me up more!
I am constantly drinking water and make sure to have a glass before each meal

I'm 5ft 7 and currently weigh 19st 11lbs 🙁

Well something is obviously not clicking or you'd be losing. You need to track your calories.

There is no magic fix for weight loss unfortunately (as I've learned!!) - you need a calorie deficit.

Hatemylifenow · 13/02/2017 18:19

And I agree - you must weigh everything.

MiniMaxi · 13/02/2017 18:23

Have you had your thyroid levels checked? Under active thyroid can mean it's really easy to gain weight and really hard to lose. Ask your GP. Good luck Flowers

MiniMaxi · 13/02/2017 18:23

PS it's nothing to worry about if they do find it's not working properly, you just take a pill every day.

leh92 · 13/02/2017 18:26

Have just downloaded the my fitness pal app and will track everything I eat! It says to walk about 10,000 steps a day which I do plus more for the school run etc.

I haven't had it checked out but will make an apt with the doctor to see if I can get tested for it :)

Maybe you aren't eating enough so body thinks is starving and retains weight

Try sw

And well done for 2st you have lost

LH92 · 13/02/2017 19:57

Will give anything a try if it works, so will look into it!
Thank you!

gigi556 · 13/02/2017 20:51

I agree with the last poster. You do need to watch what you eat, but if you are eating healthy then you may be eating too little. It's isn't as straight forward as calories in and out especially if you have a hormone imbalance like PCOS. Try something different to get past your plateau like low carb. Taking on some additional exercise should help too. Good luck!

Obsessedalready · 13/02/2017 20:55

Have you seen the programme secret eaters on channel 4.

Honestly it's worth a watch if you feel you can't loose weight and are eating healthily.

Lunalovepud · 14/02/2017 10:29

OP I recommend slimming world - no weighing food etc and I lost 2.5 stone in 3 months using all of my syns. It's ace. Good luck.

Lunalovepud · 14/02/2017 10:30

Plus get a cheap pedometer... Really helped my motivation.

Hollyhop17 · 14/02/2017 10:39

I would third slimming world, wish I had used it before my wedding. I lost 9 pounds in about 2 months, so not massive but I was losing each week, I never gained and never felt really hungry. Good luck.

jpclarke · 14/02/2017 10:51

It sounds like you are not eating enough, you needs 3 meals and 2 healthy snacks a day. Your body is going into starvation mode and storing everything you are eating. Another trick is to eat slowly, let's your brain think you are fuller faster. Plenty of water, apple cider vinegar in the morning. Meals should consist of 1/4 protein, 1/4 carbs and half plate of veg. Be careful about what fruit you are eating too, some are full of sugar.

Hatemylifenow · 14/02/2017 11:01

The starvation mode theory really doesn't hold water long term, else anorexics would never lose any weight.

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/02/2017 11:09

I think the starvation mode only works for larger /heavier people
