Pregnancy After Infertility IV

Blueroses99 · 10/02/2017 06:40

Pregnancy after infertility or fertility treatment can be a scary place, from scanxiety to unexplained bleeding to other random symptoms.

We are a supportive group of women across all stages of pregnancy who are used to being on the wrong side of the odds and still can't believe it's really happening.

Hi all,

Will catch up with everyone in a little while.

Just wanted to add what MPP said about the strep b test. I think it's certainly worth doing, you can actually buy the kit for £30 and do it yourself in your own home. Apparently it's more percise then the NHS test as well. I think they advise you to do it between 34- 40 weeks ( not 100% sure on that) I can't believe it's routinely tested for.

Blueroses99 · 18/03/2017 11:06

I was found to have group B strep during my last pregnancy so I know I'm a carrier. I think the issue is that it has a high rate of false negatives and therefore it could provide a false sense of security. If it's positive it's positive but if it's negative it could actually be positive but not picked up. I don't know how they deal with this in other countries but this is what has been explained to me.

I'm in hospital getting checked out for possible UTI. Will reply/update properly later xx

Sorry been awol

Glad all going well with everyone

All ok here tho want bubs out - 38.2. Seeing consultant mon who will give me a def induction date

AHedgehogCanNeverBeBuggered · 18/03/2017 21:51

We're getting the strep B test done privately, it's only c. £30 which is worth it for the peace of mind. The UK is one of the very few 'developed' countries that doesn't test as standard post-35 weeks.

Sounds like you're having a tough time MPP but wow at only 3 weeks to go!

friends123 · 19/03/2017 18:51

MPP, I think we must be taking it in turns! I was admitted last night because of a high wbc so they thought I was starting with an infection. However I feel completely fine so they have let me go again. I'm sorry to hear you have been bleeding again and that you have an horrible consultant, I would speak up if she starts because that is not what you need right now!

Blondes. Eek I was just thinking baby blondes can't have much longer to go. Hope all goes well on Monday.

Hedgehog. Congratulations on the house, one less stress down hey, just the move and the scan to go. All the best for next week.

Custard, I know what you mean about the slog between appointments. I found when I got to 26 -28 weeks I felt more confident because I could feel him constantly.Even with all the crazy stuff going on. I know thats not much help right now especially when you have that worry it's hard to switch off.

Third eye. Good luck with your scan next week.

Afm, just waiting for my swab results, I'm still having the browny discharge which is definitely not blood. I'm hoping there's no infection because they will just get baby out. My cervix is still only 1cm dilated so that's excellent news. Scan, bloods and consultant appointment on Wednesday so looking forward to getting a plan of action then.

GenghisKahnSchmitz · 20/03/2017 07:22

Hello everyone, sorry for the silence!

You're having such a rough ride of it MPP. It must be so frustrating dealing with all the different doctors and departments. On the positive side, it's great that your baby is doing so well and that your diabetes meds are having an effect. Crazy to think that in three weeks your DS could be in your arms!

Sympathies to you as well Friends, though great news that your cervix hasn't dilated further. I hope the discharge stops and good luck on Wednesday - let us know how you get on.

Taking vitamins made me laugh Hedgehog - it's bad enough when it's just "friendly" advice, but from a doctor?! Also, congratulations on the new house - how exciting!

Interesting about the strep b test - it's routine here and they take two swabs to test.

How did you get on Blue? Hopefully no UTI.

Good luck today Blondes - it'll be exciting getting your induction date.

Hope you're feeling better Custard? Waiting for appointments sucks.

Excellent news about your cervix Trixie!

The bump comments are annoying alright Rosebud - I don't understand why people don't just say "you look great" - much more acceptable :)

Hope you're feeling better Sara? Sounds like you've had a hard time with it.

Good luck with your appointment this week Third.

AFM, I'm 38+6 today. There is a bit of a concern that I might be developing pre-eclampsia so I'm back to my consultant tomorrow for more monitoring etc.

friends123 · 20/03/2017 19:56

Genghis, hope all goes well with your consultant tomorrow. Baby Genghis might be hear sooner rather than later then. keep us updated.
So today I treated myself to a cheesecake, just about to tuck in and notice it has this strange sourced cream topping. What do you guys reckon? 🙈

Sara237 · 20/03/2017 20:25

Friends - I can't read it - sorry! Sounds lush though. Good news on the cervix and hope your appt gets things sorted on wed.
Custard- I also feel time is dragging our 20 weeks scan is booked for 21 wks for some reason so even longer to wait. I can't feel anything and worry a lot. I hear you!
Rosebud - I had bump comments from husband's aunt all weekend apparently I'm massive and at 8 months she didn't even show! Wtf! I think I look fabulous!
Have aching in right side - did do a bit of lifting yesterday think have pulled something I know stupid me. I basically reduced my wardrobe by 50% in a mad clear out. Very therapeutic! And not sick all weekend! Waves to all x

Sara237 · 20/03/2017 20:26

Blueroses - hope all is well and you're not too uncomfortable. Thinking of you x

Blueroses99 · 21/03/2017 14:43

Friends sounds like you are being well looked after with weekly monitoring and don't blame you for choosing mat leave and bedrest. Great that there's no infection. Hope you're still doing well, 32 weeks now?

Trixie good measurement on the cervix. Good luck with the scan. Shame it's been delayed but it'll be worth the wait!

MPP not long to go for you now though I can understand that the unexplained bleeding is a big worry.

Rosebud great to hear baby is doing well, enjoy decking out the nursery!

Hedgehog vitamins?! Hmm Congratulations on the new house, how exciting.

ThirdEye sounds promising... good luck with the scan this week.

Sara sorry that you're still having sickness. Hope it gets under control soon.

Blondes have you got an induction date yet?

Genghis good luck with the monitoring today, pre-eclampsia isn't good news but at least you're far enough along for it not to affect the pregnancy for long.

AFM sorry I've been AWOL. I didn't have a UTI so went away reassured. I had my 20 week scan today and the good news is that baby is doing well, and all measurements within normal ranges. The not so good news is that my cervix is open and has funnelled down to the stitch. Cervix is 16mm at the moment. This means that I definitely needed a stitch so any doubt regarding this has been dismissed.

I have a stitch, am on progesterone and under 24 weeks so it feels like there isn't much more they can do for me. I'm putting myself onto full on bedrest for at least the next 4 weeks. Consultant will see me again next Tuesday and hopefully weekly thereafter. I'm so frightened Sad

Custardandcream · 21/03/2017 21:48

MPP sorry you're still having a hard time, hope Thursday's appointment goes ok.

Blondes how did you get on yesterday?

Friends good luck for tomorrow, hope there is no infection. Did you eat the cheesecake? I had no idea sour cream was an issue Blush I've been following the NHS guidelines and they don't mention sour cream and googling was no help really

Genghis hope the monitoring went ok

Sara glad you were feeling better this weekend, I need a good wardrobe clear out!

Blueroses good news on baby but hearing that about your cervix must have been so scary. Bed rest seems like a very sensible idea, thinking of you Flowers

AFM I've booked a private scan this week, hopefully that will steady my nerves

AHedgehogCanNeverBeBuggered · 22/03/2017 10:10

Oh blue that's so scary, I'm glad you're resting lots. Sending lots of positive thoughts to you and BabyBlue. Flowers

Custard good plan on the extra scan, I'd have one every day if I could!

Sara your DH's aunt needs a good slap in the face with a wet fish, I HATE people like her who think it's open season to comment on a person's shape because they're pregnant.

friends that cheesecake sounds amazing, I bloody love sour cream - it's on our shopping list for the weekend!

We had our 20 week scan today, it's a boy! Grin

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/03/2017 13:39

sorry been busy

blue so scary, bed rest and feet up

hedgehog yah for a boy

sorry have mind blank for anyone else, hope you are all ok

yes have induction date few days before 40w

JustTrixie · 22/03/2017 14:01

Thank goodness you had the stitch Blue, sounds so scary. I hope you have lots of box sets and books to keep you occupied and the next 4 weeks go fast.

Congratulations on your boy Hedgehog and congratulations on the house!

Friends I've had that same cheesecake recently, love it. Hope your appointment goes well today.

Yay for no sickness at the weekend Sara I need to follow your lead and clear out my wardrobe.

I hope your appointment went well on Monday Genghis

MPP I hope you are bearing up ok, it all sounds very stressful.

Custard I feel the same, 19+3 today and feels ages to wait for my next scan which will be 22+1. Have had fairly regular scans what with IVF clinic scan, 12 week scan and 3 private scans (2 of those with cervix checked) but found myself thinking last night maybe I should get one more to break up the wait...

Rosebud I am another one with a very small bump. I'm still getting by with my normal wardrobe (albeit with button undone on trousers) I'm pretty tall so guess she has plenty of room in there.

ThirdEeye I also had cramping on/off, in fact it's come and gone throughout. Good luck for your scan this week.

Blondes good news that you have an induction date.

Still feeling like time is going sooo slowly. I've had a couple of nightmares about things going wrong and even though I know they're not real it's left me feeling a bit anxious. I'm getting so many odd cramps/stretchy feelings, sometimes even down there, which I'm sure is all normal but still worries me. Plus I've been having a bit of very slightly dark discharge, have been reassured by midwife and a scan before but hard to stop worrying.

I'd not heard of Group B Strep but have now made a note to look into it.

THirdEeye · 22/03/2017 20:12

Congratulations hedgehog that's very exciting news!

blue that must be very worrying for you, hoping that you have plenty of visitors to keep you company.

Well I have my scan tomorrow. Symptom wise they seem to have calmed down, but I'm exhausted...trying not to worry.

Sara237 · 22/03/2017 20:31

Blueroses - sorry to hear you've got more stress with cervix. Thank god for stitch but I really feel for you after everything you've been through. Good you'll be monitored weekly and can stay off work. Box sets defo needed!
Justtrixie- the stretching and cramping is normal like you I've got it lots plus the discharge midwife says is all normal. Look at picture of round ligament and you can see why we feel stretched!
Hedgehog - ha! She has one of those slapped in face with wet fish faces anyway! Yes its irritating.
AFm I feel OK but mentioned to a colleague today nerves re anomaly test. I got a right lecture that she has never heard of anyone thinking of what might go wrong only looking forward to it. She declared that I already know all is well and must be more positive. Pissed me off till lunchtime! Fuckwittery!

Sara237 · 22/03/2017 20:33

Hedgehog- congrats on you boy! Wonderful news x me too!

friends123 · 22/03/2017 20:57

Blue, I'm so sad to log on and hear your news. I can only imagine how you're feeling right now after everything you have been through. There's not a lot I can say to you that will ease your anxiety but rest up and try to stay positive Flowers.
I hope that your consultant can suggest something for you. Can you get an extra stitch put in?( I just read that somewhere so sorry if it's a silly suggestion.) I wil be thinking of you.

Custard, I ate the cheesecake! I felt bad afterwards but It was yummy and I survived hehe! Good luck with your scan. They are so worth the reassurance!

Hedgehog. Congratulations on the boy news Wink. About time we had more boys.

Sara, Rosebud. People don't think before they speak do they. I was saying to my midwife the other day that I didn't think my bump was getting any bigger. My hubby pipes up and says yeah but I think she's growing more outwards. Grin

Blondes. Eek not long now.

Third eye. Good luck with your scan tomorrow.

loopylou1984 · 22/03/2017 21:13

Blueroses - I am keeping everything crossed for you. Xx

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/03/2017 22:17

step b test

Blueroses99 · 23/03/2017 00:11

Thanks for the kind words ladies. MIL has come to stay so I can be waited on hand and foot I don't have to get out of bed. Husband has been great in looking after me. I have boxsets, books, knitting and t'internet. I won't be bored.

Hedgehog yay a boy!

Sara good luck with the anomaly scan. You're colleague is misinformed, people can and do find problems then, but I expect you'll be absolutely fine.

Friends it sounds like I'm on a similar plan to you, just a few weeks behind. A critical few weeks though. I'm going to enquire about a second stitch, I don't know under what circumstances it is suitable so I'll see what they say.

Blondes thanks for the GBS link, really useful. As GBS comes and goes, it explains why it's only really considered accurate shortly before full term.

Hi all

Sorry i dropped off the thread over the past months. Life got v busy with my partner being ill with sepsis, the growing bump, work, house extension etc...

But I just wanted to let you know - because these updates always cheered me on during my pregnancy - that I had a gorgeous baby boy two weeks ago. He was born by emergency C section after they found meconium and he started getting distressed during labour. BUT despite the worrying start to labour, he arrived a brilliantly healthy baby boy.... he was 7lb10... and 11 days later at our last weigh-in, he was up to 8lb6! So he is growing beautifully.

I am incredibly in love and still can't believe he is ours!!

We had four miscarriages in one year (9 weeks, 12 weeks, 7 weeks, 5 weeks) after being told that I would never conceive naturally due to low egg reserve and 9 months later... here he is. Amazing! It can happen!

I wish you all so muck luck in your pregnancies and for those of you who supported me through my pregnancy, THANKYOU. I never thought Mumsnet, and a collection of strangers, would be such a brilliant support. But you are all proof of how amazing women are! Lots of love everyone.

xx

TMI alert... I was feeling a bit 'damp' below, didn't know if it was leaking fluid, excess discharge or pure paranoia. It turns out I have thrush! I am officially not paranoid but 'highly tuned into my body'. 😊
