Gender Neutral Baby Clothes

Hey everyone,

I'm just over 14 weeks now withat first sucessful pregnancy- goes without saying, very excited.

We're coming up to the gender scan in about 4-5 weeks and feel like we're pushed to choose knowing what we are having purely because of one reason. All gender neutral baby clothes are white!

Some white I have no problem with, but I feel like little squishy should be celebrated, and to me (very opinion based i know) white isn't celebratory. I'm looking for bright colours, maybe stripes and spots. I'm not overly stuck on pale pink or blue regardless of squishy's gender, but nowhere that I can see sells bright a bubbly newborn clothing. Has anyone else found this?

I know it's possible I'm looking in the wrong place and would be whole appreciative if someone could point me in the direction of some wonderfully coloured clothes that would suit any gender. I'm a couple of inches away from making a huge mess and dying some white baby grows if I can't find something.

I'm sure you can get unisex clothes in grey and yellow as well as white!

That could notbe further from the truth. One very mainstream option is Litte Bird by Jools Oliver at Mothercare. Baby Gap is pretty good too but if you want truly fab unisex stuff go Scandi - Polarn o Pyret, Maxomorra, Smafolk etc. Our DD has never worn a pastel in her life and nor will our DS due this year.

There are also some great tie dye type things on Etsy and loads of Facebook sellers do colourful home made leggings, rompers wtc.

Jools Oliver's range at Mothercare is generally pretty blinding cheerful.

Bear has covered the places I was coming on to suggest!

Next also often have brightly coloured baby grows, as do H & M.

I love Baby Gap, though. M&S also have some nice bits at the moment in navy, red and grey.

I loved Sainsbury's baby grows, my daughter never wore pastels they were too pale for her. I loved bright colours stars, spots and stripes.

Boots did a lovely unisex range three years ago, I got some yellow striped suits and bright red vests and suits with pandas on, plus JL do lovely bold colours but they're in the fucking Boys' area

Beautiful Elmer the elephant stuff at Sainsbury atm (it's white but Elmer is so colourful that he makes up for it) and JoJo has lots of cute bright gender neutral stuff too.

Remember that the outfits will start arriving pretty quick when your baby does and you'll know how big he/she is too so they won't be too tiny or hanging off. I keep telling myself not knowing the gender yet is a way to prevent me buying too much and not getting the wear out of it.

I knew which sex I was having both times but I loathe pastels. Polarn o pyret are great and frugi. I also found lots of boys clothes were brighter so my daughter wore those. Gap had some lovely grey and Next currently have some lovely bright babygros.

I was coming on to say the same as Bear too. I love Polarn O Pyret and Maxomorra.

I know I'm having a boy but hate gendered baby clothes and have been buying neutral and bright colours.

As PPs have said, Little Bird at Mothercare and Polarn O Pyret do bright colours - POP is expensive though so look out for the sales. JoJo Maman Bébé also do some lovely gender neutral designs for newborns, although everything gets very pink and blue for the older babies and children!

H&M do brightly coloured basics, you can also find gender neutral options (although not many) in places like Boots and John Lewis. Boots have got some multipacks of vests and sleepsuits in lovely bright designs atm.

Next does some. Vertbaudet always used to be good, too. Just ignore the boy/girl labels and pick the colours you like.

We found some lovely non pink/blue stuff at John Lewis and mamas and papas.

I'm not intending to find out (and wouldn't do pink or blue even if I did)

I've got plenty of yellow and green- some from Aldi when their event was on, plenty from M and S, a few bright bits from mothercare

Sainsbury's non pink/blue selection was pretty woeful and jojo Maman is just too expensive for something that will only be worn a handful of times before it is outgrown.

Boots bodysuits (they also have sleepsuits with the same designs in store, but I can't see them online)

Frugi also worth looking at; they tend to come up big though.
We had exceptionally good wear out of our Polarn o Pyret stripy bottoms.
Most of these are a bit more expensive than standard supermarket clothes but last better; and you can also find second-hand ones online (esp FB).

If you don't want pink and frilly then just buy clothes labelled for boys, it really doesn't matter.

Mol Lots of clothes "for boys" aren't great either - if they're not blue, they're often dark colours like grey, brown, dark green etc. Often they have "boy stuff" on them like cars and footballs. It's a PITA.

From what I've been searching they're either all way too expensive to buy and wear a handful of times for a little one. There are some at like £30 a ropper/sleepsuit that's crazy for a tiny person. Im in agreement with NameChange30 they're super cute but too dark sometimes.

Just look in both girls and boys sections of places, there are often designs that are neither one thing or another in both sections.

I've found Next, H&M, M&S and John Lewis seem to stock a wider variety.
The supermarkets and the more budget end of the high street (primark etc) does seem to favour the old blue/pink split.

As previous posters have said, there's tons of cool stuff on etsy (my fav for leggings is www.etsy.com/uk/shop/EmmaNealeHandmade) but because stuff is handmade you'll pay a premium for it.

The scandi brands share expensive but really good quality, last well and there's a booming second hand market so you can sell and buy again!
My DS is 18 months and big and he's never grown so fast he's only worn something twice! I do size up though.
