I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Threw up in court today... had to properly make a run for it. Fortunately there was a loo close by. Judge asked her clerk to ask me if I was knocked up. All class! God it was awful. If anything I am sicker than last time.

Hope you are all cozied up under duvets x

LucindaE · 10/02/2017 21:14

RubyReins Much sympathy. I don't know how you keep on working, but they should be grateful you show willing. The judge knows you from last time, then?
Melleebacca I'm glad you could get those two meds, anyway. I wonder if they will add cyclizine as so many women find that combination to be really good?

LUCY well done for still bf. I'm hoping I can but indeed to mix feed as daddy really wants to get involved - plus know bottles and routines can help towards a baby sleeping Thro the night

And yet again I have been sick. Obv another hormone surge the last Few days.

Love bubs dearly but wish sometimes I could just enjoy this preg. I am not glowing tho people say I am (after I've puked)

Also know I will be sick tomorrow as out for df birthday and always seem to lose meals I pay stupid money for

Waves pathetically to all and sorry who I haven't named

SickRose · 10/02/2017 23:03

Thanks all. Today has actually ended up being my best day since, well a week before I found out I was pregnant! The ondansetron was amazing. I've barely even felt any nausea all day. And despite saying goodbye to an amazing woman, it was lovely being around so many friends and family that are very excited about welcoming the next generation! I'm the first of the grandchildren to be starting a family so it's all very exciting for everyone and I think it was nice for everyone to be dealing with a new life as well as the death. And I'm glad I managed to make it the whole day without having to come home to bed! Although I'm very glad to be here now, I think the tablet is starting to wear off!

peaceloveandbiscuits · 10/02/2017 23:38

Having one of those days where I wish it was over, but it's literally too late for that, am 24 weeks tomorrow. Have been so sick this week, and have a really wretched cold on top. Am exhausted and depressed and wish I'd never done this to myself.

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/02/2017 00:03

@peace. I had a bad week at 24w after being fairly ok from 20w. Sure was a hormone surge - it should ease soon

peaceloveandbiscuits · 11/02/2017 00:07

That gives me hope blondes, thank you. I wish I had had the energy to write this down last time so I had an idea of when it was particularly bad/ok.

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/02/2017 09:52

Tho had another one 26/27w over xmas

Seem to have a good week or two. Then sick a few nights. Always seems to be evenings now as well. Strange

BlahBlahBlahEtc · 11/02/2017 10:35

Morning everyone. I hope you're all doing as well as can be! Just thought I'd update you on the situation!
Had 4 iv bags from 3pm to 4 am, was sick this morning and had terrible nausea but after more meds and some toast I feel a lot better. I'm being sent home with 9 pilld a day (2 types) and a food rota... fun fun fun! As long as it works huh! Much to all you fellow sickies Flowers

MagnumAddict · 11/02/2017 12:00

peacelove I've developed a nasty cold too. Ds caught it at nursery and it has definitely added to the misery and the feeling that my pregnancy is like an illness which I feel terrible about.

I hope you and everyone else at least feels moments of happiness. Even if few and far between.

HurryupApril17 · 11/02/2017 12:33

Hi all, just wondering how your partners/husbands are coping? Mine is struggling. He misses the non hyperemesis me and it's getting him down. He's worried the old me is never coming back. Can I do more than reassure him that as soon as the baby comes I'll be back to my normal self?

HaichM · 11/02/2017 12:52

Sickrose: I'm glad things worked out really well for you yesterday and hope today doesn't go drastically downhill.

Peace: I feel that way a lot, wishing it was over etc, but I'm only 15wks so still a long way to go yet.

Mellee: yay about the referral appt. I tried ringing yesterday and there was no voicemail option so I sent a text but no reply. Will have to keep trying next week.

Hurryup: I wouldn't say you're going to be exactly the same because you're going to be a mum and that changes you a bit and you're going to be sleep deprived at the start but I was me again after the hyperemsis. I think my DH sometimes struggles to understand how rubbish I feel and how it makes it hard to do things so then he gets frustrated and fed up that he's doing the cooking and cleaning and everything all/most of the time

sprite25 · 11/02/2017 14:47

Is anyone else actually fed up of eating? I find nausea is alot worse if I'm hungry so feel like I'm constantly eating. Even DD who is 3 just asked me 'mummy you eating again? Why?' Nausea has left me with limited choices of what to eat too, mainly plain savoury things like crumpets with butter, ready salted crisps etc. So despite not wanting to grow the size of a house I know I will as bras and trousers already feeling uncomfortable. 8 weeks today, wish I could time travel forward even just a bit.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 11/02/2017 15:00

Sorry hurryup, I wasn't myself again until about 18 months after the birth, and then we decided to have another, so didn't last long Confused

peaceloveandbiscuits · 11/02/2017 15:17

Sprite you're at one of the worst stages ime. Just survive this bit and eat/don't eat whatever you need to.

HaichM · 11/02/2017 17:37

Sprite: yes. I'm 15wks and hungry and thirsty all the time. Also have limited choices and never seem full for long. Eating does help the nausea but it also causes it for me so it's a lose-lose situation. I also can't help but watch DH and DS eat whatever and whenever they want with no ill consequences.

A question for everyone: should I be concerned that I've not put on any weight since 22nd Dec, at all? I expected to have started putting on a little by now - baby is growing well after all and I've even started to feel movements and get a small bump. My boobs also aren't really growing, especially compared to last time. I've gone up one cup size but I don't have any idea what is normal or not.

Melleebacca · 11/02/2017 17:52

Haich - I bottomed out weight wise at 12w last time and plateaued until 16w when I slowly started gaining weight. Was at pre pregnancy weight at 24w. The midwife should be keeping an eye on it, but with HG, it's very hard to gain weight.

Blah - glad you're feeling heaps better. Try to sip water all day long. If you get 500mL in or more you should be able to avoid getting ketones.

Hurryup - I was back to myself as soon as I'd given birth. I hoovered up all food. It did take till my DD was 10 months till she was sleeping through, but I had my energy levels back from day 1. We went to hobbiton when DD was 10 days old and I had no worries keeping up with everyone.

Sprite - I eat small amounts every 2hrs, if I can. I've lost 6.5kgs and it hurts to wear a bra or shorts. I mostly wear my pjs all day long. It's more that I'm so weak my pain threshold is nothing and it's uncomfortable to have anything tight on. I can't even touch my stomach without it making me more nauseous.

Waves to everyone,

LucindaE · 11/02/2017 18:29

Much sympathy to those with colds, and with LO's with colds too.
HurryUpApril17 I have been looking about for links of advice for partners, and there is this
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/help/information-for-carers It does contain reassurance and advice, but a lot of it is a discussion forum, and one of the problems is that many men don't seem to find the relief in discussing things that women do; they want a solution, and think if there's none that talking about it doesn't do any good!
SickRose How nice that people obtained comfort from your coming baby.
BlahBlahBlahetc Glad you are out, and on a new regime of meds. I'm assuming they are ondansetron and something...
HaichM I think as long as baby is gaining weight then they expect women with this to lose or gain very little. It's always worth enquiring, though.
peaceloveandbiscuits It is so disappointing that you have got to this stage and are still suffering. Poor you. Is it slightly better than it was earlier? Has the GP surgery run through all the options of meds?
sprite25 Sorry to hear that. Oh dear, I did have to laugh at lO's direct comments.
Blondes It is so true about fathers enjoying giving the baby a bottle. What do you think about expressing? I used to do it sometimes but it did make me feel like the cows I used to see milked by hand as a kid. Grin
I hope everyone is having a bit of a rest this weekend. Not easy for those with toddlers, though, my goodness.

OP posts:
peaceloveandbiscuits · 11/02/2017 19:34

I full-time expressed for the first three months, Lucinda, before starting breastfeeding again (and continued until 1yo, yay) and I've vowed never again, ha. I also said that about getting pregnant, so... who knows!

Mixed feeding is a great option if it works out, blondes, good luck. I can't say it helps with sleeping through though ConfusedGrin

I think I might have to go back to the doctors for more meds. Getting slightly ridiculous now. My nurse friend has advised what to ask for in terms of what has the least "brainy" side effects, so will try my best. Annoyingly I saw the MH midwife on Wednesday (unrelated to HG) and said I was feeling ok. Since then all I've done is vom and cry Sad

kep1979 · 11/02/2017 20:42

Even in previous pregnancies (without sickness) I always lost weight in the first trimester. This time I've lost 3kg so far (8 weeks today). I have the added complication that I am a recovered anorexic (six years since any kind of relapse), so health professionals can be really twitchy although some are say such inappropriate things that I can't believe they've even read my records! So I'm expecting twenty questions to try to deduce whether me not eating much and throwing up is HG or the ED.... hence I've not braved the dr's yet!

Twinklelittlestar1 · 11/02/2017 20:55

Hi again everyone. Hope everyone is bearing up.

I'm 5 weeks pregnant today and last time my sickness kicked in at 6 weeks. I spoke to a different doctor about starting meds early and was given the same 'wait and see' response.

I actually have some meds left over from last time which I could take. The thing is, I lost my last baby to stillbirth (nothing to do with the hg) and I'm now nervous to take anything, especially with the doctors advising to wait. I'm so nervous about everything now.

My symptoms so far have been very different to last time and I'm hoping (naively?) that i might not get sick.

One symptom I've had over the last few days is an 'icky stomach'- my digestion seems to be slowing down. Did anyone experience this before sickness kicked in?

Melleebacca · 12/02/2017 06:10

Twinkle - I didn't find out I was pregnant this time around till the nausea kicked in at about 5w. But I had noticed for the week beforehand that I couldn't finish my dinner. My stomach size seemed to have shrunk. Not sure if that is of any help?

I think I've turned the first of many corners. Still losing dinner daily, but I cleaned the toilet today so had the smallest amount of energy. Much nicer to vomit in a clean toilet too 😊

LucindaE · 12/02/2017 10:13

Twinkle I am so sorry to hear of your having a stillborn baby. That must be devastating. I can understand your anxiety; even an early mc or two makes one very anxious; you know the odds are on your side, intellectually - that makes no difference to your fear. Did the dr's say particularly why they advised you to hold off? That feeling of unease in a seemingly smaller stomach does seem common with women who don't get Hyperemesis, from what I've heard - so here's hoping you escape. Some do. A couple of returners on here had their symptoms clear up at the 12 weeks which is so often by passed in ordinary nasty ms. One thing seems to be clear; the later you feel the symptoms, the less severe it will be. I only had symptoms of nasty but controllable ms until as late as week ten, when it suddenly got far worse, but after Acupuncture which worked much better on me than many, from week fifteen I was better except for residual bad heartburn for the rest of the pregnancy.
Mellebacca Congratulations on a clean loo! I do hope your energy returns asap.
kep1979 That must make things so difficult. I must admit to ignorance about that; are people likely to get recurrences of eating disorders?
But if the doctors did suspect you had a recurrence, would you be likely to ask for meds? No doubt they have thought of that one...
peacelove That was very brave of you. Three months of it!
I hope everyone is coping today. Watch me cross post.

Twinklelittlestar1 · 12/02/2017 10:37

Thanks for the advice Lucinda and Mellee. The doctors seem reluctant for me to start medication 'unnecessarily'. I told one doctor that Pss had said evidence suggests starting meds early could reduce symptoms, but she said that actually the evidence was inconclusive since they can't prove that their sickness wasn't already going to be improved the next time.

I might call Pss tomorrow and have a chat. What stage did everyone's sickness kick in? And did you have any warning signs? I remember the day before my sickness kicked in last time, I felt very 'weird' like the kind of feeling you have when you've just woken up and are a bit dazed.

Thanks again for the support x

peaceloveandbiscuits · 12/02/2017 11:56

Twinkle that's very sad, I'm sorry for your loss.
