I am feeling really stupid and confused....

Am 45 and went through what I assumed was peri menopause and then menopause in the last year... Blood tests confirmed peri and then my last period was in May. POAS then, just to be sure - was negative and just assumed menopause had arrived. Didn't go to doctor as was feeling really good (after HORROR peri symptoms everything just calmed down). Also important to add DH and I didn't have sex from May until September as he was posted overseas (army).

We married when I was 40.. Tried to conceive for 4 years and then when the peri started we both accepted it wasn't to be.

Anyway, last maybe 8 weeks upper abdomen has progressively grown in size and hardness making me LOOK seriously pregnant...like about six months gone. no weight gain anywhere else, no other pregnancy symptoms at all apart from this and I just stupidly assumed it was middle aged weight gain and have been trying very unsuccessfully to shift it.

So....it hasn't shifted...so tonight-just to rule it out - I POAS... A VERY old stick I found at the back of a drawer ...expired I think? And the result is below. Is that positive? How can it be positive if so? Can an expired test give a false positive? Can menopause hormones give a false positive? Can cancer? Am I just seeing an evaporation line?

Obviously need to do another (non expired) test/see a doctor ... But none of that can happen until tomorrow so I have turned to mumsnet. Honestly, I don't think i CAN be pregnant so what is going on?????

Help - is this actually possible ?

Really don't want to scare you, but I know I'd read something about pregnancy tests and ovarian cancer, so I googled and found this.
www.ovarian-cancer-survivors.org/pregnancy-test.html

The fact you say your stomach is very distended set alarm bells off (gynae nurse).
Please see your doctor asap

Fingers crossed it's a Baby of course!!

Zippidydoodah · 21/01/2017 21:19

Lovelillies- that is horrifying.

WellErrr · 21/01/2017 21:21

Hope everything is ok. Have you felt anything that could be movements? Is the swollen bit hard all over? Is it bigger in the morning or afternoon? Or the same all day?

dontpokethebear · 21/01/2017 21:22

Oh. That took that shine off things. But definitely worth checking out.

Lovelilies · 21/01/2017 21:22

I know. I was v excited for OP but something was niggling at me and I remembered.
I truly hope it's not, and I hesitated about posting but I want the op to see her doctor asap

Zippidydoodah · 21/01/2017 21:26

Sincerely hoping it's nothing like that.

Would agree the above questions are worth considering.

Keeping everything crossed for you! X

jimthecat · 21/01/2017 21:50

Also heard that the further along you are (as in after 3 months) the fainter the line will be as hcg levels decrease. Fingers crossed for you OP.

haveacupoftea · 21/01/2017 21:53

If you're a bit overweight you can develop a 'b' belly, which is bigger and firmer from the belly button up. The bottom half eventually catched up, around 30 weeks I think. I'd imagine you're about 5 months if you are pregnant. Have you felt any movement?

I have read that menopause can cause positive hpts...but fingers crossed that isnt the case.

SweepTheHalls · 21/01/2017 21:59

Shameless place marking here! Hope you get the result you want tomorrow

thebakerwithboobs · 21/01/2017 22:06

Everything crossed for you op!!

Just a cautionary tale...usually the 't' word brings shouts of 'troooollllll' but, quite genuinely, our last pregnancy was a, ahem, surprise as I was 44. It was twins....Grin

Badgoushk · 21/01/2017 22:17
