I am feeling really stupid and confused....

Am 45 and went through what I assumed was peri menopause and then menopause in the last year... Blood tests confirmed peri and then my last period was in May. POAS then, just to be sure - was negative and just assumed menopause had arrived. Didn't go to doctor as was feeling really good (after HORROR peri symptoms everything just calmed down). Also important to add DH and I didn't have sex from May until September as he was posted overseas (army).

We married when I was 40.. Tried to conceive for 4 years and then when the peri started we both accepted it wasn't to be.

Anyway, last maybe 8 weeks upper abdomen has progressively grown in size and hardness making me LOOK seriously pregnant...like about six months gone. no weight gain anywhere else, no other pregnancy symptoms at all apart from this and I just stupidly assumed it was middle aged weight gain and have been trying very unsuccessfully to shift it.

So....it hasn't shifted...so tonight-just to rule it out - I POAS... A VERY old stick I found at the back of a drawer ...expired I think? And the result is below. Is that positive? How can it be positive if so? Can an expired test give a false positive? Can menopause hormones give a false positive? Can cancer? Am I just seeing an evaporation line?

Obviously need to do another (non expired) test/see a doctor ... But none of that can happen until tomorrow so I have turned to mumsnet. Honestly, I don't think i CAN be pregnant so what is going on?????

Help - is this actually possible ?

Very happy for you OPSmile. I am a similar age and still wonder whether I should try for another DC. Head says no, heart says yes. I wish you very good luck for the months ahead.

NotMyPenguin · 23/01/2017 21:26

Just delighted for you! Huge congratulations!

And just think, you missed the uncertain and risky bit where (especially if you've been TTC for some time) you worry about whether the pregnancy will stick or not etc... !!!

Northernlurker · 23/01/2017 22:22

Op I'm delighted your test wasn't just out of date. All the best.

NennyNooNoo · 23/01/2017 22:41

Congratulations, Maud! I have been watching this thread and hoping for good news. I know of several couples who had been trying for a long time and only conceived after they had given up trying and when they least expected it- it's actually quite common. Sometimes trying too hard can be the biggest obstacle to getting pregnant. So pleased for you. Good luck with the rest of it.

P.s. My sister got to 19 weeks pregnant with her third child before she realised she was pregnant.

Hi I wonder if anyone can give me any advice. I had an ectopic pregnancy, I was 9 weeks pregnant and had surgery on the 5/1/17 i bled after the surgery as the hospital said I would. That then ended. My partner and I had sex about 10 days and now I am getting brown spotting no pain barely any blood its only when I wipe and a slight bit on a pad but barely anything could I be pregnant again or is this something that is normal after ectopic surgery?

Bibblewanda · 24/01/2017 17:29

I'd start your own thread brown.

KitKat1985 · 24/01/2017 18:00

Wow congrats OP!

How has your DH taken it?

I have a friend who had difficulties TTC. She managed to have 2 daughters in her 30's but struggled (so far example it took her 3 years to conceive her first DD). She was very pleased to have two DDs after for a long time thinking she may not be able to have any DC at all, but always wanted 3 DC so never went back on contraception, but the years went by and it appeared not to be and over a decade came and went, by which point she had long since given up on TTC and was now 47 and her periods stopped. She confided in a couple of people that she'd hit the menopause but was feeling quite rough with it so was going to ask her GP if there was anything they could prescribe to ease her menopausal symptoms. And, as you've probably guessed, she was actually 3 months pregnant. She was 48 when her 3rd daughter was born and 3rd DD has just celebrated her first birthday.
