I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

who lots of us are on/started on cyclizine. It works for me (blondes shared her 06:00/14:00/22:00 timetable that seems to work well) but some found it didn't help much and went back to the GP. There are other options. I'm afraid that it takes a good week to really kick in properly. Don't drop the dosage until you feel ready. I'm 18 weeks tomorrow and for the last month or so most days I just take the morn/afternoon one but even now I have a few evenings that need me to take one before bed time to stop the world making me want to vomit!

fourcorneredcircle · 03/01/2017 17:38

south I'm just on cyclizine. It took me a while to really get under control but it makes enough of a difference for me that I haven't tried anything else. I'm lucky 🍀

Don't we have very similar due dates too? My "twin" will race yours!

Southlondon321 · 03/01/2017 18:15

lol race is on. My birthday in June and I want the baby to come before. I'll be on that bouncy ball from mid may lol.

I'm home with my mat wear delivery and in my new pjs! Got to love over the bump clothes lol.

I was on cyclizine for 3 weeks coping but then got all unexpectedly projectile again (intense and regular public puking lol) so there started my battle again trying all different things. Was quite dehydrated at that point.

fourcorneredcircle · 03/01/2017 18:38

I put on maternity joggers today bought on a whim during online sales. OMG. I don't want to wear anything else, ever again.

Melleebacca · 03/01/2017 18:42

South - I hope your job isn't very stressful. I found I had to take regular and frequent breaks to help with the nausea. Mainly I escaped to the toilet for a breather whenever I was getting too overwhelmed. Fortunately my workplace was very kind, they had seen me pop in while at my worst so everyone kept an eye on me.

Four - haha. "Twin" racing. I can see the pineapple eating contest now!

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/01/2017 18:49

im on cyczline and find spacing out equally works, so 6/2/10 tho if wake for a pee often take 6am at 3/4am to get into system for morning iyswim

ive tried dropping to 2, and few days later im ill :( and takes few days to sort out

saying that i am still sick on 3, but not so much and almost 28w

Southlondon321 · 03/01/2017 19:04

Four where did you get joggers from?? I must purchase these!!!!!!

Mellee. Work stressful, I feel I have been written off which is a big statement to make but it's causing so many problems. Worried because this is public forum (ultimately - although HG sufferers are ignored by happy pregnant people!!) hope it can be resolved over next week. So I'll keep you guys informed. Fundamental lack of support there since sickness started. As so unwell for so long I have loads of catching up. So hopefully from Monday can be reset button.. assuming I'm caught up. I'm so glad your place were kind. It makes such a difference.

Melleebacca · 03/01/2017 20:05

Oh south! That's awful. I was lucky to have a very caring boss (male even), who fought very hard for me to get the assistance I needed. Unfortunately he was fired while I was on mat leave which was a contributing factor in my new SAHM title. I hope everything works out for you. This time around I get more support from my family as they better understand how sick I get (the upside to a year of family illnesses).

Blondes - did the doctors ever want to give you anything stronger? I got ondansetron pretty quickly here, but it's the strongest I could get and even then it only stops the vomiting and barely touches the nausea.

fourcorneredcircle · 03/01/2017 20:52

I bought these initially. They're comfy but a stupid colour. And cheap fabric. direct.asda.com/george/womens/maternity-clothes/maternity-jogging-bottoms/G005530303,default,pd.html

Am actually wearing these at the moment. No technically maternity but very stretchy and loose. Good quality fabric too. tuclothing.sainsburys.co.uk/p/Black-Roll-Top-Straight-Leg-Joggers/124915296-Black

The band at the top unfolds and goes over bump. See attached photo... I'm daring to bare the belly fat bump!

Whoateallthejaffacakes Welcome. You've had such great advice I can only add - do invest in some kesostix just in case things get bad suddenly - to check for dehydration. They're available from any chemists.
Great advice indeed from LightTripper - You are a spring chicken at 40. I am glad the problems with MIL are less troubling.
Mellebaca *CaptainWarbeck Blondes IAmSerious and everyone.
SouthLondon That sounds awful! Much sympathy that you have to deal with such an attitude as well as Hyperemesis. How do you feel now?
PastieMaid I'm sorry to hear that the sickness is back. That is so disappointing. Ondansetron can cause headaches, unluckily. Might be worth asking the dr. I believe some on this thread have found the non soluable sort is less likely to do that? Sorry for foolish remarks you have had to suffer.
I hope everyone is OK-ish.

Southlondon321 · 03/01/2017 21:16

Four, love the pic, looking fabulous and a very neat bump. Thanks for links!! I shall buy those tomorrow!!! My best mat pjs were George of Asda but they aren't on their website now. These ones are new look but they feel a bit tight at the top of the band.

Got mega heartburn again! Think I've been 'glutened' as don't think it's HG related.

Trying to be positive re work. Getting uber again. It's decided. I'll be bankrupt to uber app before long!

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/01/2017 21:20

Mel never tried anything apart from cyczline. It took a few weeks to get into system but did help tho was always sick rethink bile or very nauseous am but ok afternoon evenings - thankfully I work nights

NOWAY I could have done a daytime job for first 14w. I literally lay quiet and still in bed till 1/2pm

14w went to evening sickness but fine all day. Very weird

Improved at 20w tho at 24w think hormone surge and sick again

Looking back I wonder if I should have had stronger drugs in early weeks ........

Four. I brought the asda ones. Fine for early preg. Tight now at almost 28w. No way will fit at 38/40w 🙄🙄😳😳

fourcorneredcircle · 03/01/2017 21:33

blondes thanks for letting me know. TBH I thought they were ok until I bought these Sainsbo's jobbies. Now I think I'll just wear these, the over bump is a comforting feeling :)

Blondes when are you planning to start Mat leave? You're such a trooper I have visions of (in my visions you look like a cross between Marilyn Monroe and Nurse Patsy from call the midwife...) you still keeping going to the last second. As ever I'm in awe of your ability to get on with life!!!

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/01/2017 22:06

Four. Aww shucks 😳😳😍

TBH as SE I'm thinking about claiming ma soon. I can from 26w thinthey pay from 28w so back pay

I've finished my current job and TBH not 100% sure I will find any work now as parents look at my bump and obv they can't ask me so I say yes I'm preg and due end of March and happy to work till end of Feb

But this puts them off :( ESP if 2/4 other non preg mn are about

Much harder being SE and getting ma rather then employed and smp - as you have a guaranteed job till birth and bugger all the office can do iyswim

LightTripper · 03/01/2017 22:26

Hello who. Great you have cyclizine: that is the standard thing to start on. You need to take it regularly and let it build up for a few days but as others have said I would make a follow up GP appointment for Friday if you can: then if it isn't working/isn't enough you can hopefully try something else. I found it good, but it did make me a bit woozy (that passed after a couple of days for me), and I did find as the sickness got worse it wasn't enough so I ended up adding metoclopramide a week or two later. The two together made things bearable and I managed to start reducing dose at about 18-20 weeks I think (first tried at around 16 from memory and that was too soon!!)

Anyway, good luck with it. Let us know how it goes!

Pip1982 · 04/01/2017 06:41

good morning all
Just catching up now, I had a long day of appointments yesterday - which I managed - but I've woken up for the dreaded school run and feel like crap. Honestly you ladies are a real inspiration! There's blood in my vomit this morning (I know you say nothing is TMI but apologies in advance!) which didn't happen until much later on last time. Feeling very sorry for myself already Sad

Melleebacca · 04/01/2017 07:28

Pip - 😞 Blood in vomit is never a good sign. Maybe see a doctor as damage to the throat won't help things.

Blondes - you're amazing to work that schedule. I'm always awful before 10am and after 4pm. The window of being able to move keeps shrinking too.
Don't worry too much about taking mat leave early. I finished up at 34w last time so we could get a new kitchen installed and I could wean off the ondansetron before going into labour (too scared to wean off while having to work).

Hope everyone has a good day. My motto was "fake it till you make it" and managed to have guests in my house all day and not give off sickness vibes. Wink

Southlondon321 · 04/01/2017 08:43

Morning all. In my uber again. I did contemplate commuting but I would have had to rush for the bus. So planning to commute home. To get a taste for it again. My buddy is on leave this week so haven't got anyone to hold my hair back if I'm sick ... so I tied it up! (Still not washed!!!!) feeling exhausted from alarm going all night near me. Second time this week!!! Plus working! So plan a really early night. Although hubby has no idea what he is cooking so will probs be ridiculously late.

All newbies. Keep a diary of sickness, what meds, doses and symptoms you have each day. This helps to track patterns but also evidence to show doctors. Think this was pasties idea

Pip. So sorry it's so bad. I also have blood when I'm sick and it's so uncomfortable. Heartburn tabs help the acid to neutralise so it's not so painful (sort of!!)

Wishing everyone a good day.

Hope guys new to this forum and looking for a little advice from mums to be suffering and being treated for hg in the UK. I had it with my sonduring my first pregnancy three years ago and suffered abroad hospitalised several times for fluids and medication but never given any medication to take home or given much support if any from my gp, I honestly think he thought I was a hypochondriac 😣 Anyway after much deliberation i've started trying for baby number two and wondering how sympathetic your GPS are. I was one of the lucky ones I only suffered for 18 weeks but it was the darkest time of my life with none of my family around. Thanks in advance x

fourcorneredcircle · 04/01/2017 10:41

Hey User if you find yourself suffering again take with you a print out of the NICE guidelines Lucinda provided in her first post. If your GP still isn't helpful then ask to see a second GP. If you still don't get anywhere if you end up in hospital they will rehydrate you and normally give you a week's prescription, at which point you can go back to the GP again. Then, if still no luck, try a new GP's practice (if you can). Don't give up, you will get help, hopefully well before you get to the hospitalisation stage.

Sorry to hear about the blood pip definitely get your throat checked by the GP. If it helps you feel better I sometimes get nosebleeds now when I vomit. It's unpleasant but the vomiting puts a lot of pressure very quickly through the small capillaries in our ENT system - some of them burst as a result. Normally they stop quickly.

I hope you have a better day at work south 🤞🏽

blondes you are right in that not being SE makes the maternity leave/maternity payment system a lot easier. I try to count myself lucky. Im sorry for you that parents are being put off by your PG status - especially if you feel you could go for a while yet.

user1481559154 · 04/01/2017 11:41

Thank you fourcorneredcircle, I feel more hopeful now after reading Lucinda's post too. Three of my friends are pregnant without so much as a hint of nausea and their eyes kind of glaze over when i express my concerns. Its great to hear from women who understand how debilitating and isolating this condition is and don't look at you like you're a drama queen. I felt euphoric when the sickness stopped and i got my life back. Worth it when your holding your little one in your arms 😊😘

LightTripper · 04/01/2017 12:14

Hi user: just to say my GP (and a locum) have been really helpful with meds. I also got meds from my local hospital (when I was having an early reassurance scan). So there ARE good and supportive healthcare professionals out there, but it can be hard to find them if you are unlucky. Completely agree with the plan of action that four set out above. Given you were so ill last time I would think it's worth sounding out your GP early this time to see if they are on board, and then you can start to try to find a different one before you get too ill if they are dismissive.

It is hard being p/g a second time with HG, because you don't have that false hope of it being just a couple more weeks BUT on the other hand your little one that you already have will give you such a brilliant reminder of what it is all for, so that really helps.

Good luck!

user1481559154 · 04/01/2017 12:36

Thank you LightTripper thats really good to know. Yes that's so true about my son it's a reminder of whats at the end of a long hard road 😍👶

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 04/01/2017 13:08

Good afternoon all,

Had some good news today, so a big Daniel on my face. 20 week scan complete- all looked well.

We have another scan with a consultant next week to look for skull abnormalities due to my daughter having a genetic syndrome affecting her skull. We declined amino due to mc risk, so scan are the next best thing to check. I would just like to be prepared as it was a real shock last time. But all looked good today. Very happy indeed.

Hope you are all having good days.
