I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Happy New Year!

Yesterday was a great day, no vomit, felt normal. Went baby shopping Grin

My evening was mercifully vomit free unlike some of you. Blondes that curry sounds selfish. I know what you mean about not learning from previous mistakes. Whilst rice doesn't make me sick sometimes I'll be enjoying something... take too much and then... yeah. Ends badly!

Today started as a bile day, what a way to see in the new year! Shortly followed by general nausea and retching for a couple of hours. Oh, such a glamourous start to the new year.

But, come June, it will all be worth it (repeating my mantra until I force myself to believe it).

CaptainWarbeck · 01/01/2017 12:07

Boyhood is a lovely film jammy Grin

fourcorneredcircle · 01/01/2017 12:15

Selfish? A selfish curry?!

I should proofread.

blondes that curry sounds DELISH!

Melleebacca · 01/01/2017 16:27

Blondes - I feel for you. If I vomit, I vomit till I'm empty, and yes, rice is hard because there's so many little pieces. Wish my dinner was as delicious.
We got expensive ravioli only to find I couldn't eat it (no meat here), and ate bread and butter and a glass of juice. Think I was the juice that sent me running. Even lost my replacement dinner of custard. Went to bed on an empty stomach.
Had a massive meltdown as I've been trying so hard not to start puking. Just know that puking is going to make me sicker for longer and I can't cope with that. I need to get better so I can look after my DD.

Can't believe I'm doing this again. Sad

Pip1982 · 01/01/2017 17:27

Hi ladies I'm hoping I can join Smile
I'm currently 7 (I think) weeks pregnant with DC3 and really suffering. In my previous pregnancies it's been the same, 24/7 horrendous nausea for the duration, with my first - DD the actual sickness was worse than with DS but I found the nausea to be consuming and I really struggled to cope. It was a difficult pregnancy and he ended up arriving at 27 weeks so it was a lot! He's just turned 1 and this time I just can't be the martyr I stupidly attempted to be in the previous pregnancies, especially with the added stress of the premature birth of DS, and worrying that it might happen again. I'm finding it so difficult to manage any day to day activities let alone play with him. I'm now under the belief that my physical mental state is more important than trying to do everything naturally and not taking any pills that might help me. I've been to the GP and been given a prescription for Cyclizine - I've been taking it for 3 days and so far there's no improvement on the nausea however I do think it's helping with the actual sickness, and enabling me to drink (still can't tolerate water though Hmm). Anyway I just really wanted to be able to chat to people who actually understand what it's like... I know most others mean well but telling me to eat ginger and rest really isn't helping!!

Southlondon321 · 01/01/2017 17:58

Hi pip, welcome to our sick club!
Your cyclizine experience is the same as mine was. It's much better in combination with heartburn meds (ranitidine) and other anti sickness med metrochlopromide. The only thing I could offer as a nugget of help is to get yourself in front of gp and antenatal team as much and as frequently as possible. My hosp not taking it seriously but going to push harder at end of the month when have another scan.

When it comes to ginger .... tell them to GINGER OFF!!!!!!! Ginger symbolises all that is wrong with perceptions of HG, knob head employers, the generally unsupportive and untrained medical professionals!

Really hope you feel better or are more medicated soon.

(I've still for my splitting headache today!!)

Melleebacca · 01/01/2017 18:05

Pip - you brave woman! It takes up to a week for the drugs to take full effect. And even ondansetron hasn't stopped the relentless nausea. The most important bit is keeping fluids in.

LucindaE · 01/01/2017 20:07

Pip1982 Welcome. You are indeed brave. So glad all was well with DS, born so early. As a veteran you don't need my usual talk of kesostix. Glad you are taking meds this time. Don't hesitate to go back if the meds don't start working soon . You've had great advice form others about that, just wanted to say I swore by tinned fruit and its juice, sips of coke, and ice lollies. G*** is a swear word on here, never fear!
SouthLondon Twins - how exciting for your friend. We've had a couple of women on here expecting twins who recovered early, so I suppose with a singleton pregnancy they wouldn't have suffered Hyperemesis at all. Did she suffer from bad MS with the double load of hormones?
Sorry to hear you suffered from violent vomiting with Rice Horrors too.
Sorry to hear of headache, too.
fourcorneredcircle Lol about 'selfish curry'. Well, it was, if it insisted on re-appearing.
Melleebacca Sorry that vomiting has begun. Do feel for you in that disappointment.
jimmyjay I am glad you will be getting stronger meds.
Apologies if I've ignored anyone.

Thank you so much ladies Smile!! Forgive me, I haven't quite figured out how to @yet Confused. That's reassuring regarding cyclizine taking a week to kick in - I'll keep my fingers crossed. The doctor only gave me a week supply which is annoying as it means another trip there. I'm trying to take it one day at a time but really dreading being back at work on Wednesday. I'm in London and really have no idea how I am going to manage the commute on the tube this time, I'm just exhausted.
very lucky regarding DS - 27 weeks is extremely early but thankfully his only issue was being born too soon. It's obviously a worry this time around though as we still aren't sure what caused it.
Also, the tinned fruit is a bloody great idea!! I managed peaches today so I will definitely be stocking up xxx

Happy new year lovely ladies.

I hope you are all doing ok. Lots to catch up on I see.

A quiet NYE had here with friends over for dinner, managed to cook us all a 3 course meal and run around after 3 kids. So shattered today, but lovely to be social again instead of locked in a bathroom...

Nausea has been very bad today, I miss the ondansetron. :(
Also had a couple of vomits, bike this morning- lovely, and then pre-dinner. Still so much better than where I was.

Right I'm going to have a read now and see what you have all been up to. Xx

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 01/01/2017 23:57

Wow- I think I'm all caught up. Seems I have missed a lot. Welcome to the new faces. I hope you are doing ok?

As has already been said I found tinned fruit a life saver- ice cold from the fridge. Still have it now first thing.

Pip don't be afraid to take some time off. It will work out better in the long run. I also commute to London and know how impossible that is during the worst of it. Xx

LightTripper · 02/01/2017 00:12

Hello all and welcome to the new folks. Happy New Year!

Sorry I haven't been on much. MIL has been unwell and it's been hard getting her the right professional support over the holidays. We've spent a lot more time with her than originally planned as a result so the break has sped by! On the bright side it has been good to put my slog into perspective. Just wish I had more energy to help OH with everything, it's a big strain on him.

Anyway, onwards 2017. Hang on in there everybody in the first trimester. It does get better unless you are very unlucky, especially if you can find the energy to persevere in finding the right drugs for you (which I know can be tough).

Here's to all of us!!

Pip1982 · 02/01/2017 09:14

Morning all Smile I've managed some toast and kettle chips this morning (Balsamic vinegar is working a treat at the moment!) I have a feeling bread is going to be a no no soon though, so no idea what I will have moving forward...
IAmSerious* you're right, I think I will just have to take time off. I've only been back since November but so be it.

fourcorneredcircle · 02/01/2017 10:07

Pip vinegar is a perennial favourite on this forum. Although kettle crisps is luxury - lots of us swear by the cheaper the better. Do, salt and vinegar matchsticks... hula hoops... etc! I first thought I should POAS when I was cooking one night and found myself holding the vinegar bottle... which I promptly raised to my lips and had a glug of... BFP the following morning! Are you having dry toast? I had mine with too much butter in the early days as dry was too difficult to swallow when I couldn't get liquid in. Have time off. It'll force you to fess up at work sooner than you'd like but, it's so important that you use what little energy you have sparingly.

Light sorry to hear about MiL - sounds like you had a very tough Christmas Flowers

Welcome back shirley

South my bile run is always a "posh" vomit. I know I won't block the sink with it and, let's face it, sticking your head over the bog doesn't make you feel much better!

Southlondon321 · 02/01/2017 11:05

Morning all!
Hope this is the beginning of a good day. Back to work tomorrow. It's so depressing. I'm worried about my reception still not being right, my memory, the pressure from director, the commute (think I'll get uber first day), having to have lunch... to name a few!!

My pal pregnant with twins is having a worse pregnancy than last time and felt sick a bit at the beginning but no MS let alone HG. Issues she has are low blood pressure - she is very tiny and twins is a big strain for her body, sciatica and pressure on her pelvis. Together we are a pair but have a 'bumpalicious' spa day to enjoy in Feb!! Courtesy of long suffering husbands.

Having weird dreams - that my husband wanted to go travelling to 'find himself' before baby comes and my reply was 'who will clean up the sick?' lol. He assures me this morning it's all in my head. But honestly I keep having weird dreams and then having to assess what's real and not in the morning. It's so strange.

Pip - it's so annoying coming clean but passing the worst of it on sick is the best thing you can do and it gives medication a chance to work too. I ignored it for too long and ended up dehydrated, luckily not hospitalised. Something along side cyclizine can make a big difference. I tried EVERYTHING!! My magic cocktail was with heartburn tablet ranitidine (think it's Zantac in the shop), cyclizine and metrochlopromide. Ondasetron gave me headaches and constipation, stemil made me sick and promethizine (can find box so guessed spelling!!!) made me sleep ... like knocked out sleep!!!!!!

Light - I'm so sorry about your MIL, I hope things improve. You are so close to baby now!! Have docs said anything about delivering early? Or are they going full time despite ongoing sickness?

Wishing everyone a good day!!! The sun is out here but I'm only going as far as Tesco if go out at all!! (I'm weirdly supermarket phobic since vomiting freely in them!!!! Feels like no escape!!!! So it's a big deal for me lol)

Southlondon321 · 02/01/2017 11:15

Quick question to all (sorry I keep asking random things!!) ... does everyone take folic acids in their second tri and beyond?

I've heard conflicting information....

The pregnacare and boots big tablets made me sick from very very early on so in the first tri I took Superdrug folic acid and vit D. I've been taking it less regularly in second tri. It's a good tablet because the size of cyclizine but tastes much better!!

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/01/2017 14:09

I took folic to think end of 2nd tri only as had it

Some say stop at 12/20w

I'm still taking vit d

Couldn't get in with preg care and many with hg say that

Pip1982 · 02/01/2017 14:11

Thanks southlondon is the heartburn medicine regularly prescribed alongside or would I have to request it for actual heartburn? sorry if that's a daft question!

Pip1982 · 02/01/2017 14:15

blondeshavemorefun I can't keep pregnacare down it really makes me feel worse. I'm taking Solgar now but was taking a centrum postnatal supplement before that as I was still breastfeeding DS xx
