I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Four. THats not good. Are you on the strongest medication ? Once I'm sick that's generally it unless sick again after food

moonoverthewater · 18/12/2016 11:18

Hugs to everyone having a bad time

I'm starting back at work this week on reduced hours, really looking forward to it.

I'm coping with the nausea at the moment which is great and it's been over 2 weeks since I've vomited. I am truly grateful for the heartburn medication as without that I don't know where I would be!

LucindaE · 18/12/2016 11:56

Everyone, I hope you don't mind my posting this and I don't know if Mumsnet rules preclude my including this link, I hope not; as a mother I found this unbearable and just had to donate and I suspect several on here will feel the same:

ww.mumsnet.com/Talk/guest_posts/2804611-Guest-post-In-Yemen-mothers-are-watching-their-babies-die?

fourcorneredcircle That double puking when in the middle of your ablutions is awful. I remember someone, it could have been MotherofPearl suggested that keeping the water only warm did make vomiting in a shower less likely.

Blondes Good news.
Waves to all. I hope meds are working and people aren't feeling too dismal at the prospect of a frugal sort of Christmas, to say the least, diet wise....

Thank you for your help, got my booking in done and the GP gave me a prescription for meto, which I haven't used yet as i can still cope without (6+1). Will try again for ondansetron when I'm worse.

fourcorneredcircle · 18/12/2016 14:31

Thanks for the sympathy everyone :)

It was weird this morning. I had my usual bile run first thing, then about an hour later ate a couple of slices of toast and butter and had a little water. My usual routine! I ran a lukewarm bath (I've been using MoP's tip on that for a while). Had a wash, lay back to wet my hair... sat up opened my shampoo and just suddenly projectiled! Sat there in shock for bit then pulled the plug, stood up, got the shower going, started my ablutions again and then suddenly realised it was going to happen again... so I was on all fours throwing bile up down the plug! So weird. Felt fine after 10 mins or so and have had an uneventful day otherwise... so odd! Can't even say it was something I ate, fresh bread and butter!

Ah well. I shall add it to the long list of pregnancy experiences!

LucindaE · 18/12/2016 19:26

moonoverthewater Good luck with return to work. It's good you get a holiday quickly.
fourcorneredcircle Very dramatic, oh dear! I am also dismayed that you are still having those abominable Bile Runs. Glad you felt OK afterwards.
Crocosaurus It's good you've had the booking in appointment, and meds.
Some women on here have really been helped by that one.
Very quiet on here. I hope everyone is coping.

Moon. Agree. Having major heartburn most days , do wonder if bubs will have lots of hair and glug gavusicon lots

RobberBride · 19/12/2016 00:06

Four in case it helps, have you tried different kinds of bread? A few weeks ago we ran out of normal bread, so I ate some rye bread from the local shop. I felt so much better that day, so I experimented, and apparently in pregnancy I don't deal well with normal wheat bread (the kind I ate every day in normal pre-preg life). I'm ok as long as I stick to rye or occasional soda bread, and I have much less than usual and have upped my protein intake to compensate.

Sorry for silence. Not only is my laptop dead but now our internet is only sporadically working. Waiting for BT man to come and fix it. I'm hoping maybe before the birth at end of May?!

Southlondon321 · 19/12/2016 08:31

Morning all
Hope you had good weekends. I did well this weekend. Huge nausea but no sick til this morning .... hilarious coincidence is that it was in the bath. Stupidly ate toast half an hour before so was awful to clear up. Husband had only been gone 15 mins!!!! Meant to be first day back at work but feel headachy and weird which I often do post sick.
Hi to everyone. Hope all ok!!

fourcorneredcircle · 19/12/2016 09:38

Sympathies south! How does a little bread spread out so much in water?! Have you gone to work? Could you head in later if you feel like it?

Robber I've had lots of different types of bread as MiL likes to bake. Generally it's all been fine, I've only thrown it up once or twice. Toast has been my main food source for a while now, I think this was just just random. Not long had my morning toast... let's see what happens... sounding a bit like a school science experiment now

Good luck with back to work moon Smile

Southlondon321 · 19/12/2016 09:44

On my way in via uber. Feel awful!!! So nauseous and nervous of being unwell out of the house. Co-op bag in lap!!!!

Southlondon321 · 19/12/2016 09:47

Also, I really don't want to talk to anyone. It's just been me and the cat for nearly 3 weeks in the daytime. I've got a much bigger bump and don't want to talk let alone about pregnancy... I can hear it now 'but have you rreeaalllyy tried ginger' and 'I'm sure sickness will go any day now!' Or 'sickness is a sign of a really healthy pregnancy' .... !!!!! Ha I'm so grumpy these days. My poor child to be!

fourcorneredcircle · 19/12/2016 10:08

Oh south you have my sympathy. I found it really hard to be surrounded by people when I first went in. I even deliberately went in when I knew I could avoid as many as possible. I had a couple of allies though who let me go and sit in their office out of the way and who didn't ask questions. Is there anyone who might be able to do that for you?

LightTripper · 19/12/2016 10:13

Sooo many congratulations to Lucy and Freshbread!!! Enjoy your gorgeous gorgeous babies and all the snuggles xxx

All well here - just normal queasiness and exhaustion. Boring but so much better than the early days, which I am trying to put to the back of my mind!

Hang on in there South - I suspect it is going to be a really annoying day, as you say. People think they are being helpful but... (oh, travel bands too, you'll definitely get asked if you tried travel bands). Maybe if you do fill the Co-op bag on the way in you can waft it at people who are being annoying later?

Can't believe I am second on the list to pink castle... makes it all seem pretty real (and a bit scary ... so much work to get done before I go on leave!!)

Hope everybody had an OK weekend and has a good week ahead.

Pastiemaid · 19/12/2016 11:18

Still in hospital here, I've now been put on steroid drips. Has anyone been given steroids before for hyperemesis? Were they effective?

If anyone tells you to eat ginger south then force feed then ginger biscuits until they apologise!

LucindaE · 19/12/2016 13:23

PastieMaid Just dashing on to sympathize. My goodness, poor you. They are a very effective form of treatment from what I've seen on this thread, but not usually used until Ondansetron and other meds have failed. Remind us what meds you are on? I knew you were in a bad way and would probably be admitted, but this seems to indicate things were worse than I thought. I hope you feel a lot better soon.
Back soon; have to rush out...

OP posts:
Pastiemaid · 19/12/2016 14:41

I was on ondansatron, metachlopramide, and prochloprazine up to three times a day each.

I might be here up until Xmas, which is crap as soon we were going to go home (where me and my partner are from and where all our family is) in a couple of days. The pregnancy hormonesake you so weepy aswell!

Thank you for your support Lucinda

Southlondon321 · 19/12/2016 14:55

Pastie, hope you are doing OK. It took me a long time to re-hydrate and I wasn't bad enough to be in hosp. Thinking of you.

My boss is a bit grumpy today so not had too much small talk. They have all given me the disabled loo which is so nice. So then I don't have to smell other people having gone to the loo (not that I wee much being low on fluids!!).

I've become my own worst enemy and got G-word biscuits and ale! I fancied something fizzy to drink and it was in my drawer from the early days (when I would also google 'how to psychologically overcome morning sickness'...) and my sis gave me some GF ginger bread the other day in a Christmassy moment! I have told the whole office that it is not a morning sickness cure!!!

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/12/2016 15:28

Pastie. You are in the best place

South - ive been told many time that bubs is a healthy baby. Really have no idea how they survive during hg. Guess they just suck the goodness out of us

babyand · 19/12/2016 16:48

Hi ladies, yet again I'm lost in the threat iv left it too long and can't catch up. Honestly I feel like I'm getting worse instead of better. Think I'm gonna have to see see if they can give me anything alongside cariban. 13+ 3 now

LucindaE · 19/12/2016 21:01

babyand A good idea; there are various meds they can try. Sorry you are still suffering.
PastieMaid Sorry none of those worked. With any luck they will get it under control with steroids. Let us know how things are going.
SouthLondon How did things go on your first day back? Mother Hen always clucks when people on here return to work. They always seem to go back too early. Did you say this is a staggered return?
Waves to Blondes moonoverthewater RobberBride and everyone.
Apologies to anyone rudely ignored.

OP posts:
MamaErmintrude · 20/12/2016 03:48

Hang in there babyand. I think you're in the worst possible time (well it certainly was for me), do whatever it takes to help yourself keep mentally strong.
Lucinda you're so right about going back too early. I went back too early and tried to stay full time for way too long which has landed me being signed off again. Kicking myself now! (Though also so unbelievably grateful to be able to lie down all day and not try and fight my way through another day at work)

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 20/12/2016 07:55

Morning all.

Agreeing with everyone who is talking about going back to work too early. I did that and was signed off again after deteriorating. That said- I'm not exactly brilliant now, but I'm back.
You also have my sympathies for the grumpy boss/co-workers. No one I work with gets it at all. My boss had a baby last year and sailed through pregnancy without even the mildest morning sickness. I think she thinks I'm making it up!

I have always said I wouldn't wish HG on anyone, but if she had it in her next pregnancy that might not be a terrible thing Blush (horrid I know- but she was a complete cowbag to me yesterday about the time off I have needed).

I'm doing ok off the ondansetron still, sick an average of twice a day, and thankfully not yet on my train to work. Win!

I hope we all get a decent day for Christmas. Will be keeping everything crossed. Xx

moonoverthewater · 20/12/2016 08:07

Hi all

Hope today is okay for everyone.

Work yesterday was good, I did 4 hours which was enough. Thankfully they are a good bunch and were really nice to me and I have an understanding boss.

I sympathise with all the comments about the dreaded ginger and sick bands! I didn't get it at work but people try and force the issue with you, it's so frustrating!

I actually had the sick bands in for about 2 months solid apart from when in the shower and realised it was all psychological and they were doing nothing but bruising my wrists!

Back in today for 4 hours, It's nice to be surrounded by humans instead of box sets ! Although missed my dog.

Xx
