I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hope all going well Lucy, thinking of you and excited for you meeting your lovely baby tomorrow!

Lizziedoll · 15/12/2016 08:01

I have been up all night being sick Sad I had an empty stomach so just dry retching. I am at work now and ditto. I feel like I am about to pass out and die.

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/12/2016 08:18

Sneezy. Glad days seem to be getting better and yah for wrapping

Captain. Awwww cute pic and yes busy days make you feel worse

Agree with tripper sleep and rest make all the difference to a good /bad day. In the early weeks I was always much sicker and retching more on the days I'd worked the night before

And even now If I'm extra tired I'm sick

Tripper. Almost 30w wow. Time is flying - I rarely retch now (unless red wine is breathed in my face)

South - the sore throat after sickness isn't nice

After the orange juice baby turning incident and constantly sick I was throwing up red ish phlegm from sore throat

Ice lollies cold helped

LIZZIE. Welcome
And yes for some
The constant nausea is the worst. Once medication is in body it does help but takes a while to get inthere , ESP if being sick or runs

I'm also se and yes if don't work don't get paid. Luckily I've been ok as in early days the worst time was 6/7am - 1pm and better evenings - which is lucky as I work nights so threw up and went to bed for the day

Seems ages away for you but I'm just filling out my mat allowance form - 51 pages wtf so hopefully ma will kick in middle of January

Serious /SHIRLEY. Never know what to call you lol. Hope things aren't too serious with heart and boo back to tinned peaches (which never worked for me)

South you need to be quicker with that coop bag 😬😷😬

Bumpalot. Don't reduce medication. Whenever I do I am very sick

Chicken cuppa soup and bagels I lived off for weeks plus melon tho couldn't have it cold yet would eat ice cold lilies when really hot in Aug /sept and couldn't eat anything else

Shame about train journey and dh sounds like he got bribed well - and all my shopping is done via Amazon. Simple

Lucy. Hope all goes well today in the pink castle and I then am
No 3

Whoop whoop. R.E.M. Joining the list in THink early Aug and being bottom. Now I'm almost top 😁😁😁😁

Hope I havnt missed anyone out if so 💐🍰🎁🍰💐

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/12/2016 08:26

That was a long one sorry

And yes gone back to alturnite days for sick

Last sat twice. Nothing Sunday. Monday sick after chicken and salad and was exorcist style 😂 ,Tuesday fine , yesterday driving to help friend do Xmas wrapping for charity and usual feeling and managed to whip out trusty stash of coop bags from passenger seat and throw up while driving up steep hill with cars all behind me and managed to pull over at top and empty entire contents of stomach into bag

Tied neatly in a knot carried on driving and put in friends dustbin before knocking on door , only to be greeted with wow you look fab

I always look amazing after I've thrown up and even df gets to know the rabbit twitching nose expression I apparently give before being sick and Grey face .... to 10-15m later and look glowing

Also means if pattern is right I will be on today -dinner with dad and CHINESE tonight , but out with girls Friday night for dinner so hope I don't lose that

But that's the story of my life at mo, is eat out and spend lots of ££££ it's down the loo later 🙄🙄

Crocosaurus · 15/12/2016 08:35

Hi sorry to ask a question you get all the time on this thread but I can't find the information and I've got a GP appointment in a minute.

What is the next step after metoclopramide? Or could I take it more frequently? I've had hyperemesis twice and it took the edge off but wasn't strong enough. Cyclizine etc did nothing except make me sleep. I think the next one was an anti psychotic? Did it have any side effects?

I want to go to the GP prepared with a specific request. Thank you!

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/12/2016 08:40

Croc sorry I don't know. Cyczline worked for me(tho still am sick) hopefully pearl or mother will be able to advise you or ring the hotline no in opening post

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/12/2016 08:40

OR even Lucinda baby brain

Sneezypeasy · 15/12/2016 08:56

My GP wouldn't prescribe ondansetron, only got that after a hospital stay. Hope you get something from GP.

Sneezypeasy · 15/12/2016 08:59

Good luck today Lucy and hope you make a very quick recovery once the baby is born.

Crocosaurus · 15/12/2016 08:59

Thank you sneezy! Can't believe that article recommends ginger at the end Sad

Looks like I'm asking for ondansetron then. Has anyone taken it with metoclopramide? I would like the b6 as well as I think I'm low for other reasons, but not if you have to take the anti histamine as well

Crocosaurus · 15/12/2016 09:02

Sneezy ugh that is ridiculous. Mine was good last time but annoyingly I've moved and got a new GP.

CaptainWarbeck · 15/12/2016 09:57

Croc i got stematil before ondansetron. Needed both though.

I now have dreaded ondansetron constipation. Lactulose and senna and an enema were order of the day yesterday, although not much seems to be happening.

Bit of a rant here... how many of you started to feel slightly better at some point and if so when? I was pinning my hopes on 12 weeks and I'm here and I'm still totally down in the dumps with it. Taking pills nearly every hour of the day and feeling completely wiped out and exhausted all day long. Life is boring, the days are really long and sleeping at night is the best bit of the day... I almost wish someone could give me a nice long sleep until baby is due. Argh! Feeling v sorry for myself although I know I don't have it as bad as some of you troopers. Do you have any mottos to keep your spirits up??

Southlondon321 · 15/12/2016 09:57

Lucy!!!! Thinking of you today!!!! Sounds like you wouldn't even need anaesthetic for your C section with that pain threshold.... Bizarrely it is what my mum said, she had sickness and pain free birth. Wishing you a speedy c section recovery and a happy healthy baby boy!

I keep thinking of the consultant and annoying things he said ... like 'if you don't like cooking smells go for a walk' ... ummmm a vom walk do you mean?!?

Bump has grown but as back on ondansetron I think it might be partly poo!

I've started the diary but got a small one and realised I should have got a bigger one hahahaha. I think it's such a good idea to remember good/bad days and what meds were which days.

Haven't gone back to work today. I was getting loads of messages from my team yest because the director was freaking out about stuff and it was stressful enough without being in. She will expect me to be 100%, which I am not - part sickness, part drug fog - and it just wouldn't cope. Going to miss Xmas party but back in the office monday with less people around to just focus on emails. Going to taxi there rather than horror of bus and overground so stop the sick spurting out!!!

I've told weekend visitors that I will not be a good host so not to expect much from me and all ok. They are family so it's different thankfully and can make their own drinks. Let's call it practice for when the baby comes!

Wave to everyone. Hope you are all surviving ok

Southlondon321 · 15/12/2016 10:10

Sorry all this morning's messages didn't load before mine!

Lizzie - you sound so poorly. Get to doc or hosp. Tablets are rubbish but help.

Blondes - fingers crossed you can enjoy your dinners!

Croc - i went into ondansetron after metochlopromide. Metro does nothing for me. Ondansetron was great BUT got constipation and headaches. So now have 3 types of laxatives prescribed!!! I'm worried some will make me gag so I've started with the lesser tablet ones first. Keeping an eye on headaches with my new diary monitoring symptoms and medication (thanks pastie for idea). Getting a heartburn med on top can make a big difference. I have ranitidine and others have omperazole. Good luck at docs. So sorry if this is too late!!! I've noted drug combos that were shared with me and could happily provide that if helps. I hated sterimil.

Captain - I feel your pain on all counts. Not done enema yet. Poo stuff makes me gag so I'm worried about laxatives not working!! Might have to involve my husband (again!) if doing that. Or actually prob could go to a clinic. Anyway! How many weeks are you? I'm 15+2 and not feeling good at all. I think tiredness is drug fog but the sickness is baby. I too was waiting for the magic 12 week moment and it turned out I missed it because my dates were a bit skewed from early scan and baby being curled up! So I was 12+3 after thinking I was 11 ... not magic anti sickness moment!!!! Then as I was having to tell people I went off sick from dehydration....

Lizziedoll · 15/12/2016 10:13

At this point I can't keep anything down, food, water, nothing at all since last night (was up all night being sick).
When does this start being dangerous? I'm worried as I'm getting no fluids or nutrients?

LightTripper · 15/12/2016 10:15

Good luck today Lucy - so glad you are finally getting off the vom train!

And good luck with the GP croc let us know how you go.

Castle for me last time things got a bit better at about 16 and 21 weeks. This time it was all a bit earlier (I think probably because of drugs, or maybe because it's a boy this time - or maybe just random!) Improvements probably around 14 weeks and 20 weeks? The first improvement I tend to get is just being less exhausted - so although still sick it gets easier to deal with. Then at around 20 weeks I seem to stop throwing up, so hopefully that will be the case for you too. Luck of the draw really, but why shouldn't you be a (relatively) lucky one after the bad luck of getting HG in the first place? xxx

LucindaE · 15/12/2016 10:15

Crocosaurus Welcome. It looks as if you have got good advice about meds already from Squeasypeezy. They do try and avoid prescribing Ondansetron because of expense mainly, but it certainly is the most effective. If you're given it, do ask about treatment for the inevitable constipation or stock up on those pessaries from Boots - have to avoid telling them you're pregnant as pharmacists won't sell to pregnant woman through some legal thing, as they won't sell cyclizine to pregnant women either though it's proven safe for decades and they do use pessaries in maternity wards in hospital. My usual question: I hope you have kesostix?
Which is what I want boringly to ask of poor Lizziedoll. That sounds awful and you must be dehydrated. I think you need to go to the dr's asap. What meds are you on, remind me, sorry to have forgotten?
Blondes Much sympathy over those awful vomiting sessions - how brave of you to wrap up the infamous carrier bag and carry on as normal! And as for risking Chinese food - but I don't like it anyway. Very salty, so that will be tempting with Hyperemesis, as salty and sweet stuff lures...
It's comforting that you look good. My own face seemed as chalky afterwards as before, so you're lucky...

Waves to all. Must go out but back soon. I hope the unmentionable PC is OK today.

LucindaE · 15/12/2016 10:19

Lizziedoll They usually admit you for fluids if you have 3+ ketones. It isn't good for a pregnant woman to have been unable to retain fluids for more than twenty-four hours, and is considered a medical emergency. If you haven't got kesostix to check, do you have a headache, dry skin, mouth, blurry vision, or feel confused. Can you stand ice lollies or sips of flat coke (though being at work, it may be hard to get hold of them?) Can you get an urgent dr's appointment?

OP posts:
CaptainWarbeck · 15/12/2016 10:28

Lizzie not getting any fluids leads to dehydration which some people end up in hospital on a drip to treat. If you're not keeping anything down you sound like you could be at risk of that. Best thing to do is check in with a doctor. Are you on any meds yet?

Thanks light and south for replying. I think I need to hang out for the magic 14 or even 16 week mark! I'm 12+5 today.

Ate some dominos pizza with diet coke for dinner tonight (in Oz so my times are topsy-turvy to yours). The coke was a revelation it went down really well and I feel much better after it. Only afterwards I remembered you'd all been saying full fat coke had helped lots of people. Now I have to stop DH drinking the bottle in the fridge...

The support on here is invaluable, it has made my last few weeks so much more bearable. Sorry to anyone suffering today. Things can only get better and keep taking the tablets, that's what I'm telling myself 💪🏻

CaptainWarbeck · 15/12/2016 10:31

Anyone else have 'drug fog tiredness' (I liked south's terminology)? If so what are you taking that's causing it if you have an idea? My suspicions are on the metoclopramide at the moment.

Lizziedoll · 15/12/2016 10:32

They gave me IV cyclizine and fluids on Monday when I was in hospital but gave me nothing to take home.

CaptainWarbeck · 15/12/2016 10:35

You poor thing lizzie you definitely need some regular medications by the sounds of it. Can you get a drs appointment today? Emergency one if they're booked up?

Lizziedoll · 15/12/2016 10:41

I saw the doctor yesterday already, I don't want to go again and be made to feel like a nuisance Sad if it gets worse, I'll go back to hospital. A&E was so busy though I can't handle the crowd, the smells, the stress...
I'll try to sip water throughout the day. Do you know how many cups I'm supposed to have in the day in order to not need IV fluids?

fourcorneredcircle · 15/12/2016 10:47

Came by to see if there was news from Lucy Maybe she's already at the pink castle!!!

The thread's gone bonkers this morning after a few quiet days 😂 Looks like blondes, Lucinda and squeezy have been looking after everyone well. I have nothing to add except to echo that Lizzie you need a GP appointment, an emergency one would be justified. You cannot continue like this Flowers
