Anyone else on Cyclogest/progesterone (to prevent miscarriage) and how long for?

As title really. My dr said she'd put me on aspirin & cyclogest when I got pregnant due to 2 previous mmcs. I called her when got BFP and she prescribed over phone. Not seen her, now 12+4 and wondering how long people normally stay on them?

My sister is adamant I'm to stay on them for whole pregnancy as she's worried but I don't want my body getting complacent and relying on something fake if that makes sense.

I will call dr around 16weeks if I've not heard from her to check but was interested in others experiences...

I am on both those.

According to the consultant I should stop taking progesterone at 14 weeks pregnancy and the baby aspirin I need to continue till 34 weeks.

I was I progesterone now at 30 weeks. Stopped taking it at 13 weeks. Wasn't on aspirin so can't comment on that.

I've had 2 IVF pregnancies and took progesterone until 12 weeks both times. I would give your Dr a call now to check if you need to keep taking them. Don't know about the aspirin.

I've been advised to take cyclogest from bfp until 34 weeks due to possible weak cervix (had a late pregnancy loss last year), so slightly different reason to you. Always best to check with your Dr if you're not sure xx

IVF pregnancy and was on progesterone till about 14 weeks I think, phased it out over the course of a week or two (taking every other day etc). Baby aspirin until 34 weeks. As others have said, best to check with your Dr about the P and how long they want you to continue.

Thanks everyone. Yes I will ofcourse check with my dr aswell, just interested in different peoples experiences. Also thought it was funny that she just put me on them with out saying about how long etc, not sure she expected me to last this long! It was all a bit rushed tbh.

I thought maybe more peeps would be worried about coming off it like me

Badgerbird im terrified of coming off the progesterone and plan on slowly weaning myself off the consultant did say it won't hurt the baby, & I could come off it now but for reassurance she's happy to perscribe it me till 14 weeks.

I'm not a dr, and you should of course ask yours but I seem to remember that you come off it around the point the placenta takes over. I think this is the case when you've been prescribed it in the hope that it does something to help with the undiagnosed mc's rather than when you have an actual diagnosis for something.

I had Cyclogest till 12 weeks to support IVF pg after mc. Consultant said placenta would take over at 12 wks, and sure enough I'm 20 wks now :-). Check with your doc though - why put off phoning her?

In case she tells me to come off it mousey! Not sure I'm ready, I'm scared in case something happens

Have you had your 12 week scan yet? Maybe phone dr after that. You need to know if you should be taking it from a professional. There might be good reasons you shouldn't add more progesterone to your body after the placenta has taken over doing that - people who have been on it for longer may need to be for other reasons.

After IVF I had cyclogest to 12 weeks and aspirin until 24 hrs before delivery.

On aspirin and told take till give birth - now 21w

I was on cyclogest until 18 weeks to support pregnancy with two subchorionic haematomas and periodic very heavy bleeding. I think the norm is to stop it about 14 weeks, as the placenta takes over progesterone production by then - I probably could have come off it earlier, but the doctor wanted to see two bleed-free weeks.

i was on cyclogest until 12 weeks but as i was scared to stop i took it easy and reduced the dose gradually until 14 weeks.

i was not on aspirin, but was on heparin and did the same

Cyclogest and Asprin to support pregnancy after 3 miscarriages.

My consultant will be prescribing the above as soon as I test positive. Please tell me about your experience.

I was on cyclogest (IVF baby) until 12 weeks, and am still taking aspirin until birth basically (currently 34 weeks)

@Pineapplebaby aww good luck darling and I pray it all goes well for you. 34 weeks is amazing. Did they stop you at 12 weeks. Did you experience any bleeding at all especially with aspirin

Yep, once I’d had my 12 week scan and everything was ok, they said to stop taking them as the placenta was doing the work.
Not had any bleeding with the aspirin. I’m 41 now which is why they told me to take them.

Hi Ladies

I had a miscarriage on 7th September. We don't have any children and so it was our first one. The baby was 7 weeks and 2 days. We were told that it was an early miscarriage which completely went by itself. I've had blood tests done and they came back as normal.

We are now trying for another baby and I would really like to be on progrestrone. Does anyone know of anyone that can prescribe this privately please? We live in Kent but can travel to London.

I recently had to have a cervical stitch @13 weeks of my pregnancy due to having cervical cancer in 2016 and losing some of my cervix, I have now been given 400mg twice a day up the bum (sorry tmi) for 30 days. I have been doing some research and I haven't found anything that indicates this is normal? I am a bit worried now that I am putting extra hormones into my body. Also not sure if it's from the spinal block or the pessaries but I am getting really bad cramps in my bum, lower back and legs. Only people I know who have had spinal blocks (Spinal anaesthetic) are ones who have had babies and they haven't experienced what currently have as an aftermath. any help would be awesome and much appreciated :)

Hi @ReeyaPa I had a stitch placed at 13+5 and also take progesterone 400mg once a day PR, their is not a lot of research into the use of progesterone and if it helps prevent Pre term labour but most of the lady's I know take it, some just take it without a stitch and make it to term. It's a natural hormone so won't do any harm if u continue to take it
