Pregnancy

Anyone else on Cyclogest/progesterone (to prevent miscarriage) and how long for?

As title really. My dr said she'd put me on aspirin & cyclogest when I got pregnant due to 2 previous mmcs. I called her when got BFP and she prescribed over phone. Not seen her, now 12+4 and wondering how long people normally stay on them?

My sister is adamant I'm to stay on them for whole pregnancy as she's worried but I don't want my body getting complacent and relying on something fake if that makes sense.

I will call dr around 16weeks if I've not heard from her to check but was interested in others experiences...

Another one here with incompetent cervix, I had a cerclage (stitch) to prevent my cervix opening more than it already was and now I'm on 400mg cyclogest once per day.

I'm currently 26 weeks and will be on it for a while to try to prevent premature labour (progesterone has been shown to help prevent the uterus from contracting).

I've had no side effects from taking the progesterone, your body won't become reliant on it :) it is just to aid you and give the best chances.

Hi OP,

I was told by my consultant at 12 weeks to stop at 15 weeks.
I was scared, so I weaned off during week 16.

All is okay so far, hope it goes well for you.

All the best x

Hi! I’ve had 6 chemical pregnancies now and have been prescribed cyclogest. Has anyone else had a similar experience and where this has worked and resulted in a pregnancy? They couldn’t find any reason for the CPs.

I’m trying this weekend and will be using it for the first time. I’m excited but also scared in case I’ve got my hopes too high and the same thing happens again.

@OrangeSprout I’m sorry to hear if your losses.

I had 4 miscarriages, and finally when I got pregnant for the 5th time I was given cyclogest pessaries ar 5+4 to use twice a day until 16 weeks. I’d never got past 9 weeks previously, and am currently 14+4.

I did also start taking 150mg aspirin from ovulation too and I credit that more than the progesterone as I’d had my progesterone levels checked after the 3rd loss and it was great.

Thanks for your reply @Moominmiss.
They also didn’t find anything wrong with my progesterone levels either. I did try 75mg of aspirin on one of the CPs but it was very much the same experience as the other CPs. I haven’t been told to take aspirin as well but after reading this thread I’m wondering if I should be trying a small dose too. I think I’ll give my consultant a ring.

Congratulations on your pregnancy, sending you very best wishes for it!

I’m on both progesterone (until 16 weeks) and aspirin (until 36
Weeks) and think they are both helping. I’m 11 weeks currently. I’m on 150mg aspirin xx

I have had 3 miscarriages, and I had been prescribed 150 aspirin, cyclogest twice a day and tinzaparin after miscarriage #2. I was told to stop cyclogest at 16 weeks, and just stop, not to wean off. It was a bit daunting coming off, but I think you have to trust the professionals! I am currently 33 weeks pregnant. It’s hard to say if the combination of all of these work as I had a miscarriage after doing all this for my last miscarriage, but as I’d had three they tested the foetus and it was found to have a trisomy which would not have been incompatible with life anyway (further karotype tests showed this was a random occurrence). Stats are on your side, although miscarriages are common, recurrent miscarriages are not, and there is a very high chance that this will be a successful pregnancy for you. Good luck and I would contact your GP/ask at your next appointment about when to stop.

Hey guys, I had my 12 week scan today and all looking good and normal! Measuring a day ahead. Who knows but I reckon the aspirin and progesterone helped! Xxx

@Cafeaulait27 that’s brilliant !! 🎉 congrats! I’ve started my pessaries this week, and after reading this thread just decided to do 150mg of aspirin too. Hoping for a different outcome this time.

I’m “pregnant” but losing it again....does anyone know of anything that can be tried before I’ve actually lost it? First time trying cyclogest...numerous positives which are fading away. Can still feel it there
