37..too old?

I had 2 children when I was young..17 & nearly 19. I had no family support and shut my friends out..it was very hard at times.

I have had 2 long term serious relationships since having them, both of them I didn't want children with. I guess I've never thought about it as that was my decision then.

Fast forward to now..I've met someone amazing. He wants children..I've always said I'd never deny someone without a child but early days. I can see him being a great dad..he's great in every way. BUT I am 37..I feel times ticking..I feel I wished I'd met him years ago but obviously that's irrelevant!

So..would you..start again after all this time?!

First at 33, second a 43.
Fine, absolutely fine.

MadameJosephine · 04/11/2016 17:38

Definitely not too old. I was 41 and my DS was 16 when his little sister was born.

cathaka15 · 04/11/2016 17:43

I got pregnant at 37 with my 4 th.
It's been tiring but loving every minute of it.

Umblubblub · 04/11/2016 17:43

Not at all. I'm almost 40 and 17 weeks pregnant with #2. I feel so much better in this pregnancy than i did with my first, when I was 34.Smile

Definitely not too old if both of you are committed. I had mine at 36 and 39. Plenty of older mums around that I don't feel old at DC school.

Scrumptiousbears · 04/11/2016 17:47

I had my first at 39 and second at 41.

But I do live in an area that you would be out of place if you have a newborn in your 20s. That might change your perception of what is normal definitely.

griffinsss · 04/11/2016 17:49

37 really isn't too old at all (up until 40 is quite normal I believe?).

You might not be quite as fertile as you once were (it begins to decline after 30, once again, I think), so you might want to get that checked out before making any promises.

My step mum had her first at 42 and second at 43. I always forget that they're my siblings because they're so much younger than me, but apart from that they've been a great addition to the family and both my step mum and my dad wouldn't have had it any other way (my dad was 56 though and a grandfather of 6, so he was old!).

I tested positive for DD1 on my 37th birthday. (And I'd only been with her father for five months...)

WinterRose92 · 04/11/2016 18:42

I really don't think that 37 is too old. I think if you are with the right guy and you both want it, then go for it!

Ohyesiam · 04/11/2016 19:34

I had my first at 38, my second at 40. It's been great.
Go for it x

ConvincingLiar · 05/11/2016 07:29

Not too old, but it's up to you whether you want to start all over again. I don't know how long I'd want to wait before trusting a new man to be a good and reliable partner and father.

catx1606 · 05/11/2016 14:12

Not too old. I'm 38 and 24 weeks pregnant with my first.

Sparlklesilverglitter · 05/11/2016 14:14

Not too old. I've just had my first baby at 39

LumelaMme · 05/11/2016 14:17

My DM had me at 37. She was a totally fantastic mother, and I, of course, am bloody perfect Grin
