Am I being petty? Second hand pram

I purchased the Quinny moodd of Ebay and the seller said its in very good condition. The chassis is fine I've just gave it a clean and a polish and it looks brand new, however the seat is just tatty and covered in scratches and marks. I paid £190 for it which seemed like a bargain but I really don't even want to use the chair! Am I just being a snob lol

It looks bad but did you not check it over when you collected it, or was it collected by courier? If it was by courier and you paid by PayPal you should be able to get a refund, if it was cash on collection then probably not.

I paid for a courier to collect and deliver it and paid through PayPal. I don't mind keeping the chassis though it's just the seat. Is there anything I can do or will I have to send the whole thing back?

I think you'll have to send it all back. If there weren't any pictures on the original listing that show the damage you can raise a case with eBay against the seller saying it wasn't as described.

I think being that it's a very plasticky seat the scratches are inevitable. Even if you bought brand new I think you'd find it quite scratched with little use. Do the fabrics all come off for washing? If so they will look as good as new with a wash but the scratches I don't think you can do anything about.

You were crazy to pay it...The fact you had to clean it as well?! When I sold mine I cleaned it before passing it on...and it was spotless.

Send it all back and claim back via ebay/PayPal as it's not as expected.

Yeah I know to be honest I thought she would of cleaned it before hand it's not what you want to be doing at 36 weeks.
I asked her if it had scratches she said some but not many. The chair is covered in scratches and marks I didn't expect it to be perfect but you know.
It's cost me £40 to get it delivered is it even worth it that will be £80 can you ask for a partial refund?

Are the scratches due to poor packaging when it was posted? Couriers seriously chuck things around and it would need to be well wrapped and / or in a box to stop getting marked in the post.

That said, if she wasn't offering delivery and you arranged the courier yourself, there's not much you can do. A packing service wasn't part of her service offered to you (unless she did in fact offer this for an additional fee) so you can't really complain if it was inadequate.

I will have to ask her the box was dented when it arrived but to be honest the chair just looks like it's been used a lot. I don't want to put my newborn son in there to be honest. I will have to contact her and see what she wants to do x

That's not 'very good condition' at all. I say it was more 'well used'.

That's a shame. I also got a second-hand pram, but through someone at work, and I didn't check it properly. The hood of the seat was completely mouldy where it hadn't been left to dry properly after rain, and so I ended up replacing it myself with a completely fresh seat. In my instance, I'm glad I did because I still made a very good saving overall, but I agree with others - that seat's pretty far from "good condition" !

Either that, or you could just sell it on and get another one.

The pram has been used, you knew that before you purchased it. The seat need washing that's all, it's never been washed before. There is no actual damage to the seat. Sorry but on the advert there was clearly said no returns.

Here's the AD she never took any photos of the scratches on the chair. Should I open a case?

It's just frustrating because if I knew that the chair was in that much of a mess I wouldn't of purchased it. Now I have to faff around doing this either way I'm going to be at a loss now. Sending it back or buying a new chair I've lost out on a lot of money.

are all those scratches (apart from the minor marking on the handle) on the underside of the seat?
If so, you're being extremely precious and the £600 chair for £190 is still a bargain; you can feel happy that you won't beat yourself up about marking it in exactly the same way when you grapple with transferring from car to pram for the first time.
Putting a newborn in scratched hard plastic isn't going to harm them. You've washed the seat and presumably will use a liner of some kind on the chair, so put it down to experience and move on.

In my experience, Ebay will always side with you as the buyer, so you could open a case but it will be an enormous hassle! I sold a phone which was in VGC (and it really was, unlike your pram!) but in my case the woman decided she didn't want it after all so raised a case against me. Ebay's policy is to always put both parties back in the position they would have been pre-sale, so you might get asked to return it to her and Ebay will refund you/raise a claim for the money to her.

Guess I will have to open a case! I know it's underneath and you can't see it unless you look. But it just looks scruffy to me and I know it's there now! If she had told the truth I wouldn't of purchased it, it's a mess the seat has staining and needs a good wash I didn't think I'd have to be doing all this considering its in very good condition

Ok, if the worst comes to the worst and you're stuck with it, the scratches look like they could be buffed out using car bumper scratch buffery type cream (proper technical terminology) I've used it before (on a black plastic bumper not a pram, I'd try a small spot first) and it does mask the majority of scrapes. You can buy new covers for the seat or even get one custom made in a fabric of your choice from sellers on sites like etsy.

Yup I've opened a case! I have mentioned that I'm happy with a partial refund I've found s brand new seat on eBay for £90 so even if she refunded £50 I would be happy. Ebay don't step in until the 1st so this will be a long process by the looks of things X

It sounds like you need to buy a brand new pram. Once the seat is washed (which you already did by the sound of it) then the only thing wrong with this pram is scratches underneath where nobody will see and they won't make any difference to anyone. Even if you buy a new one, presumably it will get similar scratches from normal use anyway.
