Nighties/big t-shirts/for hospital bag?

I like PJs, not nighties but when I had DS 6 yrs ago I got a couple of cheap t-shirt material nightshirts that were ideal for hospital/birth, during which PJs just aren't practical. Am trying to find something similar this time around to pack but really struggling. Have looked at New Look, M & S, Asos and Debenhams - no joy and all quite pricey.

Just after something plain, cheap and comfy that I can chuck after birth if necessary. Any ideas?

Should add - not up for anything emblazoned with "sexy" in sequins etc/cheesy cat images etc!

I got mine in Primark one was pink with white dots other was fairly plain

Sorry as I know it's not really answering your question but why aren't pjs practical? That's what I used and they were great. 'Normal' birth though, I guess if you have a section you might be worried about them rubbing on stitches.

newmum, yes I had an emergency section last time so want to be prepared for that again and PJs are def less comfortable due to stitches etc. Also, am assuming that PJs are not as practical for labour itself and examinations?

Primark and Asda are both v good ideas - shall have a look.

I second Primark! I got a nightie from there for my hosp bag, only £4, and c couple of pairs of cheap, dark bottoms for afterwards. They're cheap enough that you won't mind chucking them after

Yep, Primark £4 and £4.50. Lots of different colours and patterns, all very normal and boring (which is good as I didn't want slogans or sequins either) and they have butts on the front going down about 5 or 6 inches so may be useful to be able to breast feed or for skin on skin

Dreading buying "nighties" - can't stand them. Tempted to wear one of DH's old tshirts but think that might be even more ugly. How many do people think I'll need?

Another vote for primark, knee length, selection of colours/patterns and button down the front so easy access for bf.

I got a baggy cotton black pj top/nightie (large t shirt style) with a deep v that worked really well for BF.

They had nice PJ sets too

I have one from Asda and a couple from Primark - very cheap! I just went up a couple of sizes. Primark sell ones with buttons on the front too, ideal for bfing.

I'm off out to check out Asda and Primark tmrw. Want to keep it as cheap as possible as also can't stand nighties!

PJ's impossible if you have a catheter, which you might if you have a CS. It was 5 years ago (tommorow ), but I got maternity Tshitt nighties from Primark and Mothercare.

Oh good point too. So some of you are organised enough to get changed when you go into labour? Gosh! I'm impressed.

I bought some comfy button up night shirts and bottoms at Primark. Cheap so not worried if they're ruined after.

Also nightshirts are long enough to cover bits for easy access to by bottom half if needed.

Primark- I have had two c sections and they have them all through the year. Plain or with buttons.

I packed about three.

I also liked new look maternity PJ bottoms for around the house afterwards

I got dressed into a nice dress for labour! Even the midwife commented on its niceness (not on purpose! I was in pjs and got dressed to go to hospital and it was slung on a chair from where I'd worn it earlier in the week)

But yes, primark! Lots of fairly plain nighties in stripes or small florals.

I also bought nice pjs especially for the first few post birth visits! I thought if there's going to be loads of visitors/photos of me in pjs then they should at least be nice ones

Ethel Austin used to be a go to shop for stuff like this, it's a shame it is no more!!
